Explaining how difficult adding new members to the UN Security Council would be only highlights how unfair the current setup is. Of course you're not going to want to rock the boat if you currently hold a seat and veto power. I'm with President Stubb on this: The organization is losing its legitimacy. Reform is necessary to save it.
Love the Finnish president. 🏆❤ He was "making RUclips videos" on his geopolitical understanding of the world right before he became the president, on a "geopolitics YT channel" I forgot the name of...
This should be seen by many many more people, very good stuff. Well done, despite the constant background buzzing of incoming messages and despite the butter on the camera lens, as somebody here commented...lol. And I'd love to hear more about WEF, pretty please, should be great fun
@@theglobalgambit You do your thing, and I'll do my best to spread the word - you have the wits and the presence of a poster child of the necessary RU resistance, if only fate plugged you in properly, and fate can always be helped in many ways. So I'll do my bit, and hope others will try, too. For the record, anytime I see you, I see a brainy version of George Michael singing 'Freedom' - and I hope that does sound flattering :)
The very first principle of the UN Charter is “the sovereign equality of all its Members.“ Not as China said in 1992 a big boys club. They have already formed their own clubs, that is not the purpose of the U. N. At least half of the permanent members should represent small countries. Another group should represent the poorest countries.
Having Russia as the current head of the security Council is a joke! Russia was not a forming member of the 5 top nations...the USSR did. Russia simply "took" the USSR seat and was not appointed.
Countries form groups because the UN is not performing it's primary function of maintaining peace and security. So countries have to make alternative arrangements. China has had no choice but to stand up to the bullies on the Security Council . The UN should be protecting Israel so it doesn't have to act on its own. Pact for the future - all the things that have been neglected while Russia polarised the world and spread corruption.
What relevance does the UK have in the world today? I really think the UN is entering a League of Nations stage of irrelevance where formerly relevant nations still think they can drive policy. Unfortunately were probably headed towards a global conflict due to current conflicts. When the new order shakes out I think the United States remains at the top of the pile but Europe has some humble pie to eat and recognize its mostly globally irrelevant unless its unified under an EU banner.
We need to be clear on what we're talking about, UN General Assembly or UN Security Council. The former sort of works, the latter doesn't. The League of Nations managed to kick Stalin's Soviet Union out after it invaded Finland. The Russian Federation continues to hold a permanent seat in the Security Council illegitimately.
Illuminating topic. The speech by Sikorski, the Polish Foreign Minister was my favorite, followed by Lamy’s speech.
thanks for watching and sorry for the connection issues
@@theglobalgambit I had to wait until I had the time to devote to it. I mostly listen rather than watch, so no problem.
The very first and primary purpose of the UN, the first claise in the Charter, is “To maintain international peace and security.“
James is right ; in the 90s was a lot shown on the news about UNs actions around the world ! and, today, it almost disappeared...
Thank you very much both for sharing your time and work, James, and Pyotr, peace

We can have a broader talk about global institutions and bodies for sure - no butter this time

India, Nigeria, and Brazil should be considered for permanent Security Council seats. Not a 2nd African country.
A lot of Africans disagree with you
@@OrwellsHousecat A lot of humans disagree with those Africans.
Nigeria is not a credible country. Its a failing state with huge human rights issues.
Only South Africa is a credible player.

Pyotr, it looks like you have butter smeared on your camera lens.
That's a rude thing to say about his butterface
Don't you have internet in London? You are shooting yourself in the foot with quality. Change your ISP today.
All internet companies use the same infrastructure in UK. So if your Internet is bad with one it will be bad with all.
If I hear your Whatsapp again on this video, I'm going to start cursing like a sailor.

Wouldn’t never have figured that out
@@theglobalgambit No, Google doesn't tell you they hide comments. and manipulate the order and thus upvotes

Nice deflection from the fact that Russia is the major threat to world peace today.
@EvoraGT430 there is no deflection. I agree with you on that topic 100%.
