I love how Jason admits he missed working with Bruce And despite all his hatred and rage, still took a laser and saved him Jason is still there underneath the what the Pit did to him
I don't think Jason left. But he grew fed up with Batman's bullshit idealism, and he adapted. After what the Joker did to him, he couldn't possibly be the optimistic boyscout he used to be. But it's Batman's moral code that made him that way.
@@nicholasheredia4235 I mean, not only just letting him get tortured and killed, but also for replaced it him with another Robin (Tim Drake) in a few months. He literally auto-proclaimed himself in the Arkham series as the "world best detective" but he just say, "weeelp, the kid's death, better look for another replacement".
The conflict in Jason was well done, subtle and it fluctuates for him. When Batman offered to help him he was taken aback, for but a moment he considered, then his demeanor changed. And his comment about how he missed watching Batman work with that childlike energy…Jensen did perfect. This is the best animated Batman movie in my opinion.
I love how at this point Bruce Knows and now Jason knows he does. it completely changes the story. the mystery isn't who's under the hood. instead it's how is Jason back.
@@jakesagal7747 actually Batman knew that it's Jason but he wasn't certain (or doesn't want to believe it). After testing his blood,he was certain of who Red Hood is and what he must do
Batman DOES NOT KNOW. He has his suspicions but he wants to be wrong. He wants Jason to be alive but he doesn't want him to be this killer. Thats why the mystery of the 'who' isnt as important as the 'how' and definitely the 'why'
Something I absolutely love about this scene is how well they both know each other. Jason knows Batman's fighting style even after all that time, and maneuvers exactly how robin would in the situation, just with more brutality.
Batman: If you kill a killer, the number of killers in the world remains the same. Red Hood: Okay, Batman. But if you kill like a hundred killers then it goes down by like... 99 right?
Well if you really wanna think about it, any of the killers he has killed could've also been trained killers that if they killed him instead would've gone to kill 99 as well but this time it would be against innocent people.. how u feel about tha
If you kill a killer, the number of killers in the world is the same. But the number of victims of killings is not. I think that's what Red Hood means. Think about like this. If we let all killers live, then they will kill a lot of people. More persons than there are killers will die because some killers will kill more than once. But if we kill killers only, like Red Hood wants, then only the total number of killers in the world will be killed. That number cannot be bigger than the number of victims of killers, since at least one killer will probably have killed more than one person. So, the numbers favor Red Hood's argument, if he is arguing that killing killers is the best way to reduce killings, ironically.
To be fair He was beaten to death with a crowbar, caught in a explosion and was killed in it, brought back to life. Had to literally punch and dig his way out of the casket and grave. Was tossed in a pit to fully reanimate him. And basically leapt off the top of R.A.G's home from a cliff I'm pretty sure everything else to him at this point is pillows
4:35 something about him offering help to me sounds incredibly wholesome. This is Batman, a man who helps those in need and brings criminals to justice.
This Batman was easily one of the most formidable versions ever animated A lot of times the cartoons/animated movies focus on how agile he is and how he’s good at outmaneuvering his opponents, but they often forget that if you’re not enhanced with strong physical superpowers, Batman *will* fight through you, not around you The way he easily pushes back the big guy with one hit and kinda just walks through the fight during it’s first few minutes is perfect portrayal of how he does things They do an insanely good job of showcases how brutally and strongly he hits in this movie, you can feel it every time he lands a blow
@@SanSolo22 What normal people do you know that can react fast enough to block bullets? They're clearly enhanced through either their armor or some other means
Just to add one more thing to your already awesome comment : Doesn't matter if Red Hood was the epicenter of this scene, opponents do think twice and give a silent ovation to Batman when he appears. This shows the kind of impression Batman has in comparison to others in Gotham.
I just realized just how slim of a chance jumping through a car that's flying at you THROUGH THE DOOR is. THIS MAN _PRACTICED_ that shit. You don't just kinda DO that. Which is hilarious to me, just imagining Batman be characteristically paranoid- "I'd better practice jumping through a car door and coming out the other side... Just in case." Alfred- "Sir, excuse me, but what in the bloody hell?"
Writers have made Bruce this paranoid and worse in mainline comics.. In fact its canon or atleast was at one point in the mainline comics he was so paranoid in need to be prepared he on purpose gave himself multiply personalities that he can somehow keep in check without meds .. So if one of his personalities is compromises even in the slightest the best one to take over at the moment takes over … Which that personality then was willing to make more do to a paranoia of the current supply of personalities already know and the circle repeated .. So yeah this sort of thing with the car at this point is not that crazy or out there
@@lloydlandrum3040 I'm aware of the character's tendency to be paranoid. That's why I said "characteristically paranoid." That's who he is at this point. I could actually picture Bruce practicing jumping through a car with a minuscule margin for error.

Red Hood is kind of right tho. Gotham City is full of crazy and powerful bastards and all Batman does is beat them up and send them to the Asylum over and over again.
They'll just come back even if you kill them. Joker ended up creating a trope because of it. The "Joker Immunity" it is called I guess writers didn't want to bother with yet another "death" and throw Joker into the Asylum. Gotham itself should catch some issues for not thinking "Why not execute the Joker? Since he clearly is showing that he cannot he rehabilitated from his insanity" or even just killing him in murder or self defence.
There are some serious questions in regards to killing criminals extra-judiciously, and it would be interesting to see the implications explored with a batman-esque character, but it's important to note that it's not just the colorful characters in costume killing tons of people. How many people has corporate-fueled greed left to die in the streets of Gotham? Would Batman be justified in killing them as well? What about Poison Ivy, who has repeatedly threatened the entire human population through one scheme or another in the past, but is currently seen in a better light due to her character appeal? Killing the Joker seems like an easy answer to an easy problem (and one I agree with, honestly: the man is a continued active threat to dozens if not hundreds of lives, and killing him seems to be the only way to ensure those lives' safety) but it opens up some questions about where the line has to be drawn, if not drawn before you kill anyone.
Well who says Batman has to do the killing? Just turn them in and let the city do it. Like, f*ck Arkham Asylum lol. Joker should've gotten the electric chair a long ass time ago. Dude's far from being "reformed". Then again, this is fiction.
Batman could kill every criminal in Gotham and two new ones would rise up and take their place. It's how this works. They actually had a story arc that dealt with the concept that Batman's very existence spawned a whole new generation of more dangerous and powerful villains to compensate for him doing what he does. If he killed every villain, he'd just create more powerful and ruthless villains plus he wouldn't have the police or public support on his side. Basically, he wouldn't be a hero, he'd be Punisher or some sociopathic nut like that.
I think the part where Jason saves Bruce from the eye beam really does show that he's not too far gone and has forgiven Bruce, he wouldn't have done that if he was still mad at him
Or maybe it's just reflex. I'm not saying you're wrong, but sometimes we do things out of habit even after the emotions have changed. One time I was speaking with my ex, and we were talking about how to move my stuff out of the apartment. Not a pleasant conversation. And as we were about to hang up, I reflexively said "okay. Love you, babe." It was awkward, but then we both hung up and never mentioned it again.

The widening of his eyes shows that part of him that wants nothing more than to go back to the way his life was before joker killed him. However, when he says it’s too late, he wasn’t talking to Batman, rather I think he was talking to the young Jason still within himself that his life will never be the way it was.
Nobody gonna talk about how dollar store Cyclops was able to singlehandedly put down both Batman and Jason in about 6 seconds. If he'd just shot both of them with his face laser while they were down that would be one gigantic payday for him.

What I really like about this scene is that you can tell how much Jason enjoyed working along side Bruce once again. 3:03 - 3:10 His tone has the same familiarity as Nightwing when he said something along the lines of missing the batgear (toys) on the rooftop earlier in the movie. Thing is, Jason is angry, but he still cares.
@michaeldonne561 No, I was praising the voice actor because it wasn't just the dialog but the tone change during the interaction. Also visually this fight mirrors the intro when Batman teams up with Nightwing. I think the movie did a good job of not just telling the audience what is going on but showing it as well. I meant that despite the dialog, this interaction alone is telling of Jason's character.
I agree with both of them. Jason has a great point that crime can’t be stopped since there’ll always be crime no matter how big of a hero you are or etc but also killing and revenge are not always the answer or aren’t immediate answers. Red hood is still my favorite dc character for all he went through and he’s just badass
Let the Hood have a family too. After all he's been abandoned, mistreated, victim blamed for his own death, misrepresented by Batman, made into a cautionary tale, marginalized for his methods even though characters like Huntress and Ravager do the exact thing he does, and even abused by Batman just like his fellow Robins. Dude deserves a break, and a chance at forming a healthy family dynamic with people who can ground him while still keeping his individuality..
This movie was so well done! Even though it’s a cartoon animation, the fight choreography is quite good. Look at the hook kick Jason throws at 0:47 The roundhouse kick at 1:29 The exchange at 1:31 (the jab cross too The knee at 2:34 The 12 to 6 elbow at 2:45 All of this made for good fight scenes and a good movie.

Literally Batman and Robin team up. Just picking up on the little nuggets. How Jason used gunfire and bombs to draw Batman's attention as he's clearly stalling. Then when Bruce is there they systematically take them apart. Bruce even looking to see Jason is following his training of how to move in step with him. Any fighter would pick up that these two are familiar with each other. Like Bruce knew when he got there hence the "shut up and fight Jason" the name being unspoken but implied based on the lightness in Batman's tone. I love this scene as a martial artist.
Batman's a real genius. Not just scientifically, but socially as well. At 4:34, he pauses and thinks about his approach. In the next two seconds he appeals to Jason's psychology. He knows the kid was abandoned and that they have history as surrogate family. Instead of ham fisting Red Hood he used empathy. It worked because he generally WANTS to help Jason, but he also knows (intellectually) that offering a hand-at that particular juncture-will catch Jason off-guard.
@Jason Oberman Maybe you should. Joker keeps escaping, and keeps killing more and more people. Maybe the best way to protect people is to just kill him. Wouldn't you? For example, if Joker wanted to kill you and your whole family, and he killed one of them before Batman stopped him. Joker may be currently incarcerated but he will eventually get out and that means your family will be forever in threat. What's better? Removing the threat permanently or hoping that Batman or someone stops him sometime in the future before he kills another loved one? The hard criminals that have no pity or mercy left I them. But he will protect an innocent. The heroic instinct Batman helped instill and nurture, is still there. A bit twisted but still there, alive and strong
Batman is also opposed excessive violence so he atleast this version of him would not adapt that strategy. See the the scene in the movie where Jason as Robin shatters a thug's collar bone. Batman was very pissed off that he did that.
He cares, he never stopped loving Bruce He’s just mad that Joker is still alive and caused untold suffering since then and Bruce did little to stop him Other than imprisoning him Jason thought he mattered enough that if he died he’ll be avenged and it didn’t happen He also disagrees with Batman’s code that’s run under a compulsion to never kill criminals no matter what and became Red Hood to try prove Batman wrong He otherwise still loves Batman and if things were different would want to stand with him again
DC... You know you can make a live action fight scene _exactly_ like this, right? In fact, do a beat for beat production of Under the Red Hood in a live-action stand alone movie.
That sounds horrible. I have no interest in watching a live action version of any dc story right now. Every live action movie they've made since and including Man of Steel has been terrible and I have no doubt that they will continue making horrible movies for many years to come.
Their both right imo. Batman’s method is effective because it keeps criminals scared. He’s absolutely brutal and inflicts the worst type of pain on scum. He doesn’t kill them but takes them just to the point of death to make them rethink their career path. You break a muggers wrist, he’ll never steal again. Crush a rapists’ testicles he’ll never rape again. Break some thugs limbs one by one and he’ll never move dope ever again. Batman simultaneously invokes the fear of what crime can lead to if you don’t stop, and also lead to redemption and a second chance at life. If you keep enough criminals scared crime will drop like cases of a plague. Notice how ever since Batman’s arrivals every scumbag in Gotham literally shivers in fear of the thought of operating at night. In the Dark Knight the mob literally turn to a vicious psychopath with no boundaries to fight Batman, they become desperate, defeated essentially. Alfred even said it, that Batman beat crime to the point of desperation, that’s why they turn to all the Two-Face’s, Jokers, and Scarecrows, because they feel beat and cornered. So Batman’s philosophy definitely works. But what do you do with the ones who aren’t afraid? The ones that don’t back down to a giant Bat. Like I mentioned, the Jokers, and Two Faces, and Scarecows. What do you do with them? There’s nothing that can be done with them. The Joker is far beyond redemption and everyone knows it. Their kind needs to be taken out because as long as they live more innocent people will die. That’s why you need people like Jason Todd. Jason won’t merc some small time hood selling coke trying to put food on the table. Instead Jason might work with him to CONTROL crime and sell at appropriate times with appropriate clients. But he WILL kill a psychopath, a madman, someone who can’t be beat or bullied. He just doesn’t have the patience for that type of behavior. He knows there’s no redemption there and that kind just NEEDS. TO BE. PUT. DOWN. PERIOD. Their philosophies both work and I truly believe with both of them they could create the perfect Gotham. But truth be told Batman will never accept any type of killing in his city and he certainly will not allow Jason to be a massive drug lord and “control crime”. Some low lifes who come from a low income bracket will always resort to crime. It’s inevitable. Instead of condoning that behavior and sending them into poverty, wouldn’t it just be easier to simultaneously manipulate when, how, and who they deal with. That’s what Jason did, and it worked. For a second there Gotham was perfect. But Batman let his own stubborn morality get in the way of it.
Don't worry, his actions are costing him dearly now. He has no resources and his allies have all turned away from him (rightfully so). Joker is in the same position, no more allies and resources to destroy Gotham with. Gotham War has utterly destroyed our two rivals, and now they may finally focus on each other, no longer is Gotham going to suffer because of their rivalry anymore..
How the hell did they make these movies back then, the writing and characters aren't cringe and the animation and picture quality clearly looks like movie material. What changed since then... Edit : spolling
Some roles are just too perfect for people. Robert Downey Jr. for example. Can you realistically see him and not instantly think of Tony Stark/ Iron Man?
Sure, it's effective. But Batman's whole thing is not taking the route the criminals take. He sees it as being no better than them. Justify taking one life makes it easier to justify taking more as he would say in the Injustice storyline.

Jason is still there underneath the what the Pit did to him
I don't think Jason left. But he grew fed up with Batman's bullshit idealism, and he adapted. After what the Joker did to him, he couldn't possibly be the optimistic boyscout he used to be. But it's Batman's moral code that made him that way.
Jason makes a point of saying he doesn’t blame Bruce for his death or hate him now. He just staunchly doesn’t agree with Bruce’s methods and morals.

Maths batdaddy maths

A lot of times the cartoons/animated movies focus on how agile he is and how he’s good at outmaneuvering his opponents, but they often forget that if you’re not enhanced with strong physical superpowers, Batman *will* fight through you, not around you
The way he easily pushes back the big guy with one hit and kinda just walks through the fight during it’s first few minutes is perfect portrayal of how he does things

Yeah, shit was pretty insane. I was really impressed by that.
The whole point of the movie is that Batman doesn't kill, not because he's righteous, but because it keeps him at the edge of sanity.
I think the part where Jason saves Bruce from the eye beam really does show that he's not too far gone and has forgiven Bruce, he wouldn't have done that if he was still mad at him
No it's because he wanted to kill bats himself
Or maybe it's just reflex. I'm not saying you're wrong, but sometimes we do things out of habit even after the emotions have changed.
If Affleck stayed as Batman would have been a good story line as that would entail two Robins had gone rogue.

I've read a fair bit of the outlaws. Thing is it's hard to know were canon begins and ends with these. Batman seems way more open minded to Red Hoods brand of justice in that series than he's ever been.
A red hood hero movie.

One of the most heartwarming father-and-son scene in entire batman series.
The part where Jason took the hit for Batman means he still cares about him regardless of what happened to him he still has a heart for his family.
"I only killed one guy tonight"
What about the dude who was holding the molotov earlier
you sure he's not dead
He’s fine, he’s probably going to be bedridden and can only eat through a straw for several months or possibly years.
But he’s fine
Batman's a real genius. Not just scientifically, but socially as well. At 4:34, he pauses and thinks about his approach. In the next two seconds he appeals to Jason's psychology. He knows the kid was abandoned and that they have history as surrogate family. Instead of ham fisting Red Hood he used empathy. It worked because he generally WANTS to help Jason, but he also knows (intellectually) that offering a hand-at that particular juncture-will catch Jason off-guard.
This seriously should have been a start of a series. I'm just saying, Jason isn't wrong. And would be cool to see both ideals clash!
That's why I love the clash of such ideals because it makes you think about our problems in the real world. We may not have super villains but we do have corrupt systems of government, gangs, climate change, etc. All destroying humanity and the idea of peaceful coexistence in their own way. It makes you think what the best solution to solve them may be.
Jason Oberman he started a crime syndicate because better to have things run through someone who doesn’t kill innocents compared to those who have no morals

I love Jason's subtle reaction after Bruce asks what happened to him.
I like to think Jason was thinking "World's greatest detective and he still hasn't figured out who i am? I haven't exactly been subtle about it. No wonder he didn't end up saving me."
I think Bruce pretty much knows at this point, and that's why he asks this. He knows there is only one way that Red Hood could know and do all the things he does. Maybe he asks this in the hopes that he is either wrong, or because he is so desperately hoping that Jason will come back to him.
What are you talking about? He knows who he is.

I love this movie. It shows both the flaws in Batmans code... and it’s virtues, that dispite Jason doing killer, he only turns his wrath on the scum.

Batman dosent torture.... oh wait
3:05 shows that deep down he still cares for Batman. As Robin or as Red Hood, he's still one of the Bat Family
He cares, he never stopped loving Bruce
He’s just mad that Joker is still alive and caused untold suffering since then and Bruce did little to stop him Other than imprisoning him
Jason thought he mattered enough that if he died he’ll be avenged and it didn’t happen
He also disagrees with Batman’s code that’s run under a compulsion to never kill criminals no matter what and became Red Hood to try prove Batman wrong
He otherwise still loves Batman and if things were different would want to stand with him again
"If you kill a murderer the number of murderers is still the same"
"What's wrong with cranking the number to 1 who's not killing innocents?"

"You can't stop crime. That's what you never understood. I'm controlling it"
Sad but true. Tell him, Rob--I mean Red Hood
