  • Patrick Wisdom is a very unique major league player, in just about every way. In this video, Randy walks us through his journey from his high school days to his St. Mary's Gaels college career, his minor league ups and downs and finally, at 32, gets his first significant major league contract. The question is how will the Cubs us Patrick in 2024. His K rate is an issue, but he certainly can run produce. At the end, Randy compares Wisdom's number with Kyle Schwarber's from 2023. You may be surprised to hear the results. Randy did the splits for you...he has time.

Very likeable guy, and I'm sure he is great in the clubhouse etc. , but those strikeouts are hard to deal with. At the start of last season, he appeared to have figured out - shorten up swing on two strikes and making contact situations. But it didn't last? This could/ should be last chance? I'm pulling for him !

Patrick Wisdoms gotta really turn his game around. His homerun rate doesn’t justify his strikeout count at all. He’s gotta be hitting like Kyle Schwarber

Well he had a hot spring and hot rehab assignment, he's coming up Friday. He's hot right now, for now. He has a chance of putting up a massive year, if he can keep it together

Glad I found your channel. Very good stuff. When wisdom gets it right, it's gonna be good. A lot of his struggles were against some pretty tough lefties. The strikeouts will always be high but 45 hrs with regular at bats will make it worth it. 1 guy who strikes out and hits bombs is no big deal when the other guys in the lineup are playing up to potential. I don't see Swanson at .244 and happ at .248 and 300+ strikeouts combined as something that will happen again this year. I say Wisdom and Morel both will improve drastically this year and perhaps, this whole team will click better with more time playing together

Give him one more year see if Counsel can talk some sense into him. He’s a DH/PH and they’re basically paying 2Ms for the hr power. He probably accounted for 15% of our HRs last year.

Counsell must have a plan for him.

Randy, thanks for your breakdown! PW is cheap power. When he does hit it, it goes. There are times off the bench when you need a 3-run homer. He provides that possibility. Good in the clubhouse.

He is definitely cheap power. That's a great point robertbennett1978!

Yep, but they will pay him $2.725M this year. They didn't have to do that, but they did.

One year contract. I don’t see him playing this year this was just because Bellinger hasn’t signed yet

A Bellinger signing would reshuffle everything again!

If he would just try to make contact instead of always swinging for the fence he would be much better hitter. Once he figures it
out the home runs will follow anyway.

Seems simple enough to at least adapt a two strike approach.

He is a 99 power type of hitter, but that contact and plate vision are like 60 ovr maybe even 50.

I'd be very disappointed if Wisdom makes the team out of spring training. There shouldn't be a place for him on a contending team

Yea I was really hoping we were free of Wisdom. Im with you I have simply seen enough. I dont care how cheap he is for an .800 OPS. Im so tired of seeing him play. And he isnt a good bench player. What pitcher that executes well can he hit? None. What nasty late-inning strikeout-artist reliever can he hit in the clutch? None. He isnt good at defense anymore. What is the point? Nick Madrigal is more useful. Wisdom cant even hit balls in the zone. His contact rate on balls in the zone is 8 or 10 points worse than league average. Im just soooo done with Wisdom I agree someone else said he just has no place on a good team. He belongs on the Royals. He doesnt drive in runs. Anyone whose rbi total is only twice his number of home runs is not a run producer. Players like him are NOT worth it.
