    Thank you for this tribute video to a very special man. I had the honor of being on 2 cruises with Gene Young. One was just 2 weeks before he passed. My husband and I spoke with him after the evening theater performance. He was ending his contract on MSC Seascape that week and was heading to Miami to a new position with MSC in which he would be over all the other cruise directors. We thought it might be a promotion but who knows...I was so very saddened to hear of his death on 2/14/23. I will forever remember him.

    Breaks my heart. He was so young and seemed very funny and good-hearted. You just never know what's really going on behind someone's smile. So sorry for your loss, Mark. And Gene's family as well. Depression and mental illness are real. Check on your loved ones. You never know. It could save their life. ❤️

    There are so so many people who have depression, almost all would never think about taking their own lives. The people who do, have a completely different type of regular deppression. Wish doctors could help them. Rip kiind man.

Always motivating the whole crew and giving the best to us. I've been growing enormously with him as a professional and as a human being since I met him. I loved him so much and now my biggest regret is that I've never said to him very clearly 😞 I wish I could have helped him someway... God bless his beautiful soul.

    Working in cruiseship is not easy we work 12 to 14hrs per day without restday we suffer depression stress from boses, family, etc. But we always smile trying to hide everything to give a good service. Then some passengers think that they buy you you're their slave and they make their own rules in the ship. Small mistake they make it big.. sometimes they order this food then we you serve it is not what they expected they say is not what i order even you repeat that 3x while she order then you took that what she/he like and say i loss my appetite that food waiter wait for a long time because there’s 200waiter fall-in line to pickup food of course pasenger is always right then make scene and complaint to have free from the ship after that they are happy but the crew suffer like hell from manager shouting at you put you somewhere to make you suffer for that mistake.. we know thats style is scam to have a free complementary but if they complain the complain sent it to the main office complain is complain we are italian ship and only italians do that scam they know the rules very well they are happy for complementary but they destroy the life of poor waiters

    Hey Mr. "The Cruse World" lol, sorry, I don't follow your stream and I don't know your name. I'm TJ Young, Gene's eldest brother. I want to express my appreciation for your post. These are videos that most of us haven't seen. I also want to express my appreciation for bringing to light the importance of awareness when it comes to depression and mental illness. You mentioned the cause of death has not been confirmed yet from the Young family. I will confirm with you that Gene Young fell from the roof of a hotel. The cause of death was the impact when he hit the ground. He was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital after the fall. We don't know for sure if it was a suicide or an accident, but there were witnesses and video that make it seem like an apparent suicide. We'll never know for sure. You also mentioned that "apparently Gene had a long history of depression and mental illness". This part made a few of my siblings upset at this post. In your defense, none of us were aware of this so called "long history" of depression and mental illness. He was never diagnosed or reached out for help. It could very well be true, but to those that were closest to him, including me, his oldest brother, best man at his weddings, his confidant and one of his best friends, I was NOT aware of such "history". Nor were any of my other siblings, and there are 8 children in our very close family. Nor was his best mates on the ship. But here is the point I want to make... you might be right. In fact, you're probably right, but the point is that we didn't know! There are others in our family, like myself that suffer from depression, but I'm pretty vocal about what I'm going through. If Gene was also going through it, we didn't know. He was always so happy, intense, humorous, and gracious. It's difficult to self-diagnose whether someone in your circle is in trouble or not. Gene was the best of us! My brother left behind 7 other siblings, my sweet Samoan mother who had to bury her husband in 1995 because of a car accident and then raised us all on her own since, a fiancee, and a little 11 year old son who is being raised very well by his exwife and her current husband. I'm sorry that you went through the same thing we are currently going through with your own brother. I just wanted to set the record straight. Thank you for your tribute very much!

    • @thecruiseworld
      @thecruiseworld  Год назад

      Hey TJ, thanks so much for your reply. The last thing I would ever want is to make anyone upset. I made this video because when I got the news it really hit me. In addition to the story hitting close to home in regards to my personal family circumstances, Gene left a lasting impression on me in just a short time onboard MSC Seashore last year. I researched as much as I could prior to making this video, but their were little facts and that is why articles and news reports always use words like allegedly, or reportedly. when facts cannot be confirmed prior to publishing. The important thing for me was to share the story of Gene and bring in to thee light the struggle that so many people deal with. The sad reality is that many people who do suffer from depression never talk about it, and mask those feelings with a smile or laughter. I hope that we can change that. Since 2015 when my brother passed, I have been active in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and I think it's a great organization for bringing awareness. My thoughts are with your family, and I will always remember Gene! ~~ Mark

      Oh wow I didn't know he fell off a hotel in Miami. How sad I didn't hear that in the news. I live in Miami, he sure didn't look depressed. He was funny, charming imat the solo meeting. He sat down next to a friend of mine and an other solo cruiser.
