- Menindee had been a "beach" resort type of place place for visitors when the lakes were full of water, but in times of drought, the lakes dry up, and the visitors stop. It was dry in 2019, and I took a day trip from Broken Hill, and discovered that the drought was not the only reason the lakes were devoid of water.

@@lauriekibblewhite was there in my early teens, so at least 40 yrs ago. Good memories tho. Camping on the banks. Ha eating those bloody carp.
Pity you didn't stop at the Albermarle Hotel for a feed/beer, publican Dingo is a wealth of knowledge, Dingo knows places of interest to see that are unpublished. During the drought you couldn't sell a house over at Sunset Strip (you could pick up a nice home for around $45,000) on the dried up Lake Menindee, lake is full now and things on the way up again. Great video Laurie, much enjoyed.
Hey there Dave, Seasons Greetings. Thanks for your comments. It was a day trip from Broken Hill, and I wanted to get back before dark. Apart from that, I am a non drinker, and despite having earned a heap of money playing in bands over the years in such establishments, I don't feel comfortable in a pub environment. That is no excuse for not going in and checking out the ambience and vibe of the places though. I would love to see the Lake now as it should be. Cheers, Laurie. 🙃
@@lauriekibblewhite I am a non drinker and don't gamble either Laurie, like you I am not keen on the smell of the bar area of pubs and clubs either but still go in for a feed, jug of ice water and a yarn, pretty good ensemble of regulars at the Albermarle, Dingoes yarns and jokes are worth the visit alone, he is a cracker! Been catching up with some more of your past trips following the rail line along the Nullarbor Plain.

Is it safe to travel to manindee nowdays?
I would think so. This was filmed in 2019. It's possible there is water in the lakes after the rain events in NSW. Give the council a ring to get up to date conditions.
Did you pay your money to enter the national park at the information centre?
No, at the pay station on the edge of the park. I managed to find some shekels floating around the car ... which was a surprise, 'cos I generally don't carry much cash. Cheers, Laurie
