I've never seen a left-hand drive Princess before. That must be seriously rare. I couldn't really say which car was my favourite in this vid, there are so many interesting motors there. You'd struggle to get me away from that place!
Oh god I know. Had to be dragged away.
I love the fact you are in love with old cars, my uncle had Austin princess , funeral cars and they were fantastic
I love old cars so much.
I had Austin princess 1950 limousine and hearse
I always used to spend ages drooling over the Austin Princesses at the showroom across from my house when I was still at school! Never got to own one though.
Being a Škoda fanatic, unsurprisingly I absolutely adore the Škoda 110, and the oh so lovely Felicia fun pick up, great video Steph, I really enjoyed it❤
What a great video 👍🏾 It's always great fun to go on a road trip and discover places like this. I haven't done it in a while, but you've got me feeling inspired to get out out & explore. TY🙏🏾
I had a Trabant about 12 year ago. Fun car.
Wow Simca Bagheera Not seen one since thr 70's what a geat find shame you could not communicat too well, I hope the princess got a new home it did not look too far gone. I love your channel just watching this in 2023 still enjoyed it!!
That's a Studebaker Lark, early 60s compact, competitor to the Falcon and Corvair, worth quite a bit if restored. Love your taste in cars, I really go for those old carbureted underpowered econoboxes. My daily driver is a Gen1 '83 Ford Escort (US) GL wagon, 1600 cc.
2:18 A little addition, you could get the Skoda 110LS as a 2-door coupe as well with a 110R badge. ;-) And those were fairly famous back then.
6:08 And this one, is a special edition, rather unique 4-seater, Skoda Felicia Fun with slide-out cabin back and two extra seats under the sky. The engines were 1.3 and 1.6 petrol and 1.9 diesel though.
As a kid growing up in the Eastern Block I always wanted a 110R, we called them "Czech Porsches", shame there doesn't seem to be any for sale anywhere, and the few times I saw one posted for sale I could have probably bought a Porsche for the money they wanted!
@@GlamStacheessnostalgialounge Yeah man, you'd pay a fortune for the 110R nowadays. I've seen its bare bodywork though and it's not a car you'd like to have an accient in. I got myself a 1985 Rapid instead, much stronger but also heavier.
@ Eh I don't care for safety, I just don't drive like an idiot and haven't had a problem yet in over 18 years of having a license.
Any of the old socialist Škodas are pretty rare though, though there is an old guy who has a regular 110, doubt he'll sell it, or hell if he's even alive anymore, I've seen some younger guy driving it around town so maybe he inherited it.
Cracking channel. Really enjoying it. Nice to have you burbling away on all these wonderful old heaps whilst I work.
Lovely video, full of interesting cars.
That Rover R8 convertible looks like one of the late '90s ones that had the dashboard out of the later (bubble shaped) 200s. There's a bit of a convoluted history to how that car came to be:
In '89 Rover launched the 5 door 200 series, and 4 door 400 series. These were developed with Honda and were nearly identical (save for some front panels and trim pieces) as the Honda Concerto.
Then Rover started developing their own variants - a 3 door 200, a coupe 200 (often known unofficially as the Tomcat), a convertible 200, and an estate version of the 400 which they called the 400 Tourer.
Around the time BMW bought Rover there was a Metro replacement waiting in the wings, smaller than the R8 200/400 range which, in simplistic terms, used the R8's front end and front bulkhead, on a shorter floorpan that used some Maestro derived suspension at the rear.
Then the Honda based 200/400 replacements due to be launched became the 400 range of 4 and 5 door cars.
Rover decided to keep the old R8 convertible and tourer going, but freshened up the interiors with the dashboard from the new (smaller) 200, as it fitted straight onto the bulkhead they'd re-used from the R8 in the new 200.
So by about 1997 you had:
Rover owned by BMW
The Metro soldiering on as the Rover 100
The Metro's intended replacement being sold as the replacement for the old R8 200/400 series, and priced above Metro sized cars.
A Honda based 400 series of 4 and 5 door cars. These were priced at the level of cars in the class above them too.
A convertible badged as a 200 with the previous model's body shape, but the new model's dashboard.
A 400 estate the same shape as the old model, but with the dashboard out of the smaller 200 series.
Confused? The potential customers certainly were.
In my mind this is where it started going wrong for Rover. In the early 90s the R8 was the leader in its class and the K series Metros were still a competitive car in the market. They sold well. Then by the mid 90s the model range became confused, the link with Honda was severed, and Rover began charging a premium for their cars. The downward spiral started there. No wonder BMW couldn't do anything with the company.
Shame, as the R8s especially were lovely, classy, well built family cars, and the K series were really advanced, powerful engines. A great company that just made a few poor decisions and never recovered from them.
What a fantastic channel this is! Some great videos and this place looked fascinating. Love the old black London taxi. I've owned 2 which I just used as private cars. Great fun and lots of space for stuff in the back. I had a 1978 Austin FX4 years ago and more recently I had a 1991 Fairway, which was great as it had the classic FX4 London taxi body with a reliable solid Nissan engine. My 2 cocker spaniels used to love going out in it too!
Thanks so much Rob!
Yes the Studerbaker is a Lark model built in South Bend Indiana USA . Plant closed in the 1960’s
If you ever find a Studabaker Avanti then you’ve got something!
classic car lovers paradise
Indeed! Hope you enjoyed the video Matt 😊
@@idriveaclassic oh definitely, makes me wanna experience a classic car show one day as well, maybe sit in some cars go for rides etc
The princess was my favourite car here, they had gas rear suspension, very modern looking for its day, thanks for showing them to us
Ahh thanks for watching 🥰
Loved the Studebaker Lark, the pre-war Peugeot 103 thingy and the Austin FX4. Wouldn't say no to a Simca.
That was great fun, Steph.
Thank you x
Cheers Andy! X
Oh wow. There are some incredible cars here. I want to rescue that Mustang.
Wow.........................Nice cars there Steph! My favourite video of yours ever and that's saying something!
I’d keep the exhaust off the princess, sounds ace. 😂
😂😂😂😂. British Leyland magic.
Nice wee vid. Thank you! Liked most of theses cars. Loved these skodas!
Thank you so much Andrea! Agreed, the Skodas are amazing ❤️
Brilliant Steph, I could have spent the whole week in there !
Thanks Charlie! Xx
Hi Steph
My favourite car was the little rare Renault- the curvy one not the other one - I would love to buy it and renovate it. Such a lovely little car.
Thank you for your great videos. You are gorgeous too!!
aww thanks Marc!
Brings back memories for me seeing the Matra Murena I bought one in Belgium 20 years ago and drove it back to the UK ,still on the road I wish I had kept it love the video.
Hi Steph, interesting video nice to find a woman that likes classic cars, I'm 71 had a few cars in my time the first was a morris minor 1958 model bought for £60 in 1968 which was a lot of money for me then, but my favourite was a 1990 Toyota Carina 2 which I bought in 1994 for £2K , it was a lovely car to drive and did a few miles in it travelling to work , they pretty rare in good condition according to our friend hub nut , have not seen one for a long time!
How lovely. Thank you for sharing your story 🥰🥰🥰
What an amazing place to stumble upon!! Great video 😊
Thanks so much Dan! Xxx
Amazing video ! I have a running Simca Aronde just like the one at 12:02 . Keep up the good work !
Hey that’s amazing! If you’re in the UK please DM me on Instagram @idriveaclassic and we can arrange a meet to cover it on a video please?!
@@idriveaclassicI'm in Italy.. anyway thank you for your answer !
Totally agree with you about the Fiat Panda....I love the original Panda, and honestly much better looking than the model they changed it into, even though that is still a brilliant car. Great channel and I'm glad I found you 😊
Thanks so much 🥰🥰🥰
At :50 that's a Mk1/A1 Golf Cabriolet. I have a 1983 A1 Rabbit (U.S. market Golf) that I've put a GTI drivetrain and upgraded suspension into. The A1 version of the Cabriolet ragtop was continued for years after the larger A2 Golfs and Jettas came out.
Wow what a place, lovely selection of cars there, love the Princess.
Great find 👍👍
This is probably my best ever day out and video 😂
ARGHHHH ! I FEEL PAIN IN WATCHING THIS !!!
Love it that the French chap that started the Princess was wearing an Ifor Williams Trailers top. Their factory is about 20 miles from my house here in North Wales!!! 😀
Love the 403's I have the later 404 🙂 and they are great cars, shame to see them sat around, would make a good project though!
I know!!!! I thought all the cars were lovely but especially wanted that Simca.
The 403 and 404 go on my list as some of finest automotive engineering ever such is the quality of the components and the way they drove. Sadly they were made before rustproofing and are now so rare. I always wanted a 404 injection in metallic silver with a sunroof..!
I'm a great fan of you channel! Very nice and normal cars all around. Thank you for that. The Panda in this film is from the second series. The MK 1 models had a sheet metal front grill. The MK2 have plastic ones but are much better to drive.
I love your videos ! Keep up the good work
What a nice video with some great cars there and such a obliging man as well . My favourite was the old Citroen pick up truck , amongst other things I have a 1994 Skoda Favorit Estate in very reasonable condition and I don't think there are many around in the estate version these days.
Thanks Shaun! Yeah he was a really good guy, so accommodating to say we had no strong connection on the language front 😂
They make the Mk.1 VW Golf in South Africa, so that was why it may have been popular there, at one point it was imported in small quantities. I love Trabants, I met my wife 6 months after her Dad got rid of his Trabant, so I did not get a chance to drive it, which was a pity. Her brother Vlastic let me drive his Škoda 100, I loved it. Thanks for the great clip, it is feeding me.
Old Skodas are amazing. You’re so lucky!
I am so lucky. My wife is Czech so I get to see a lot of old Škoda’s in the countryside where her family lives and the great looking Trabants!
That’s absolutely amazing!
I think the first car in the barn is a Matra Simca Bagheera with the three abreast front seats.
Thank you so much Kevin. I struggled with the language and his accent and my bad hearing 😂😂😂😂
The red one is a Murena , it has a much more 80s vibe with the angular C pillar the silver one is the earlier 70s Bagheera.
@@craigstratford5086 Indeed so. I have been fortunate to have owned an example of each. I live in France now and in 16 years have not seen either one on the road. Just a rather shabby Murena in a garage for 7000€.
The skoda is extremely rare especially in the uk! I have a few skodas maybe you could review a skoda sometime?
Hey! Feel free to hit the email button my page or contact me through my Facebook idriveaclassic page and we can pick up from there 😊😊😊😊😊😊
OH NOOO!😭 so many beautiful cars there! I want to restore and own so many! Are they for sale or just sitting there?
They were for sale but the guy was so disorganised he had no papers. It was all so strange.
Mike peugeot go there and find out!
That mercedes was stunning!
I think that was a Studebaker Lark that you found. I've never seen one either. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Peugeot 403. Finding Columbo in syndication reruns was always a treat.
4:31
It was never called an Austin Princess (except in Aus & NZ). It was launched as an Austin/Morris 1800/2000/2200 & Wolseley. Then, in a bizarre move, BL dropped the Austin/Morris/Wolseley brands for this vehicle and (re)launched a new brand "Princess", so the car that you saw is a Princess 1800.
There was an Austin Princess which was a large 1950s saloon/limo and the "Princess" name was also a model for the brand Vanden Plas. i.e. The Vanden Plas Princess (posh Austin 1100 & later posh Allegro).
Liked the Panda Hobby.Hired a few or these on various holidays in Greece.Loved 'em!
By the way,the Golf was a Mark1 Cabriolet. The Mark 2 never had a Cabriolet version, and this sold alongside the Mark 2 for it's whole production life (1983-1992).
Great review, with some interesting stuff there😎👍!
Cheers lovely x
Great vid! The R4 is my favorite French car too. The Princess was in production until 1981
Unbelievable. That Princess ran for 47 seconds without breaking down. Never thought I'd see it.
Like you Steph, I love the Renault 4. During the local elections back in May this year, I went to vote and seeing one of the independent candidates cars outside the Poling Station with their election photo and slogan on the side of their Renault 4 they got my vote purely because of their fantastic car. I thought they must be a good person as they drove a 1970's car!
Hahahahaha this is the kind of logic I’d apply to voting too. I’m rubbish on politics 😂
@@idriveaclassic Dear Steph, It looks more like a Daf than a Skoda to me, because they were often brown in colour, and Skoda's were a little bit longer, but please correct me, if I am wrong. The best French car to my mind was a Diane. Glad I found your first name as I have naughtily not watched your channel for a while, because I study motorcycle videos as well, as a further study of electronics, but I will watch your channel in future. I think you are right about is it a Citroen van. Thank you.
P.S. I could have told you that Simca was a French model AND I like orange and yellow, as my favourite colours.
For me this is the most interesting single video you have made - so many cars!
Correct about the VW Golf in South Africa - until recently they were sold as an inexpensive new car, and very prone to car theft.
My dad had a RHD rear engined Skoda like that in bright orange.
I used to have a Felicia, and always wanted a yellow Felicia Fun pickup - love the way the back seat folded out of the cabin, into the open.
The Renault 4 is still a common sight on the roads in Mallorca. I’m sure I’ve even seen a half-frame open top version of it.
I think the Talbot Matra looks like a Renault Fuego competitor that didn’t quite make it.
Just so much in one video!
Skoda had S110 two door coupe in the seventies, very pretty car !
Steph, if you decide to visit NZ, you would enjoy visiting Horopito Motors, in middle of the North Island. There is hundreds of classic cars, wrecks and car parts. It is one of the biggest car yards in the southern hemisphere.
Really good thank you :)...Simca part of the Rootes Group
I don’t think it was? Simca is french.
Since mid 60's, Simca was part of Chrysler Europa in France, also Rootes Group in England.
Shame they're all just rotting away, that old Pugeot was cool, and the Simca. My son has a 1967 1501 but the Aronde was better looking. Another good video Steph! 😁
Thanks so much Tony! I really want a Simca for a test drive
Well done! I think I have watched most of your videos now, I was looking through to see if I had missed any and this one. It is such an adventure exploding old wrecked car places like this. We have a few in NZ too (Google search Smash Palace NZ). The old orange tractor caught my eye too - were those 2CV headlamps on the tractor🧐? And then a bit later there is a 2CV the same colour as the tractor head lamps😲!? Maybe I am wrong🙄!
Such a shame and great video
Thanks Haydn!
Hi Steph, I'm with you on the Golf. There are so many other old cars out there to get excited about...such as the Princess!
I’m just not a VW person I don’t think!
Not everyone is into VW... And you are right: there are more Nice classics.
You mentioned the Golf a mark 2. But iT was a cabrio. Zo probably it was a mark 1. The mark 2 never got a cabrio version.. when Volkswagen was building the mark 2, Karmann, who was building the Golf cabrio for VW still was manufacturier the mark 1.
Found your You tube Channel today! Like it very much!!
Hey sorry about the error I did this on barely any sleep edited in my car in Belgium 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
10:23
The red car is a Matra-Simca Bagheera, the silver car is the later replacement & very-similar, Talbot-Matra Bagheera, as recently ruined on a new _TopGear_
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matra_Bagheera
The red car is a Murena, the other Matra is older, it is a Bagherra
Fun fact: these middle-engined sports cars had three seats in a row ☺️
charlie cheeseface you never know ☺️
Thanks Steph for the fantastic footage. I guess this old man doesn't want to part with his unique collection. It would be interesting to know how the cars got there initially and what he plans to do with them. Perhaps next time round you could take a French interpreter ;-) The whole collection must be valued in excess of 100K I guess, but I'm only guestimating ;-) Thanks again. I started subscribing to you last week, and you're as cool as HubNut ;-)
Aww John you’re so lovely. Thank you!!!
I used my uncle's Moris Minor to go to the school on some days. It is a pitty that we do not have that car with us now. In our village only two families had cars. That was my uncle's Moris minor and a Austin A40 owned buy another family .That was in 1954 in srilanka. I love your video.
Aww thank you for sharing your story x
Great video Steph. My favourite car was the princess as my dad had one. Pete 🇬🇧
Awesome video.... love it love it love it
Thank you 🥰
I'd love to drive the Talbot Matra.
Who wouldn’t 😭😭😭
Never thought I’d see a fox body in the same yard as a trabi! (That is a fox body, right? We didn’t get these in Australia.)
Loved my Panda 1980 model in about 82.....but it was rusting around the door hinges already. Great ground clearance,,,very good on tracks and fields.
I’d love to go out in a panda
@@idriveaclassic Nice easy car to drive, Mine wasn't the 4x4 version either....which was even better off road.....I used to drive between Tidworth in the South West and Harrogate each weekend and the Panda was fine on the motorway.
Epic video!!!
Thank you Andrew!
What an amazing yet sad find! Most of the cars you've shown are incredibly rare these days! I don't think I've seen more than two Simcas in my entire life! The Merc looks to be 60s to me but I'm definitely no expert on that. Too big, too expensive for my taste!
The Golf is actually a MK1, the convertibles jumped straight from MK1 to MK3 in the late 90s. MK2 saloons and MK1 convertibles are still suprisingly common in central Europe, as are T3 vans and pickups. A few days ago I drove by a rural property with six T3s, four of them pickups!
Love that Simca Aronde. Hope it gets rescued!
My aunt had a Skoda 110 when I was a kid, always remembered it because it looked so cool but I also remember it breaking down when we went out in it! Great find Steph, some lovely stuff there, that Talbot with the glass bootlid up tho, how cool?
Oh god so many cool cars! I wish we could’ve driven them.
In the USA country side , One can find many salvage yards with vintage cars found deep in the woods. Can you visit such a place in Britian ? Studebaker Kary NH USA 1-08-20
You ought to inform hubnut about this place, he might be able to take one of those cars back to Wales and do it up... 👍
The guy wasn’t really willing to sell. An odd place.
its a mk1 golf steph, love the channel
It's sad so so many lovely cars left to rot. I had a Fiat Panda as my first and second cars. The original 45s didn't have a very good engine and was prone to clogging up. The latter 1000s was much better due to the overhead cam engine and went like a rocket. I had the lovely 1000s TSR which as the twin sun roof option which as brilliant and I loved it for a long time. Thank you Steph for an interesting video. It's a shame that no one has rescued the Princess.
The FIAT Panda is a hoot to drive, prefer that version to the odd looking modern one. I think, in the same way BMW have with the MINI Countryman, (that's surely an Austin Maxi), FIAT have missed the point.
@@nigelcharlton-wright1747 I bought mine in 1986 with only 3000 miles on the clock. I enjoyed it for many years till it sadly caught fire. :-(
@@jeremytravis360 that's a real shame, my friend had one as his first car, he replaced it with an Uno, I think he regretted it, I think it was one of his favourite cars he's owned, although I also liked his Suzuki Cappuccino that he owned for a short while, until the rust got it… Have fun over the festive period sir.
That tractor was a Nuffield wich I believe we're actually made by bmc
Oh really?! I don’t know anything about tractors. That’s so interesting!
To this day i am nrver able to understand or figured it out thay why Skoda is usually the matter of joke...people make fun of it...being a skoda lover, i pity on those skoda taunts!! Oh by the way, love you Simca too....
Loved this junkyard visit, or should i say amusement yard visit...please do more videos like this..
Try to find this beautiful "" 1968 Peugeot 204 Coupe""...if you didnt know until now, your eyes will be glittered with its beauty...
The Yellow Citroën truck is a Citroën U23
I do love the Renault 4 but my choice is one of my "fantasy garage" cars, the Peugeot 403. I love the saloons but for me a pick up would make a wonderful vehicle for my work. I'm also a big fan of the 2CV6. I have owned two of them and my parents used to have a Mehari "Cote d'Azur" special edition. Unfortunately, the Mehari didn't have the same leg room as the 2CV6.
Great viideo Steph. What a find! So glad you showed the Skoda 110. I had one many years ago and it was a wonderful car. Wish I still had it. Thank you again.
Thanks Mike!
In the princess start up ..... very interesting man lol
I'd love it if you could do a review on the Suzuki wagon r mk1, or the mk2. Love those cars :)
I’ll see what I can do :D
@@idriveaclassic thanks! I love your RUclips channel!
Growing up in Penrith (Australia) my aunt had a simca arond when I was about 5
The skoda Felicia fun was only available from 98 to 2000 it was a limited addition lifestyle car ! Offering a workhorse pick with the addition of two open air seats which fold out the back of the cab ! Offering a unquic seating option never seen again on a small pick again. Around 2k where made Europe wide with 601 rhd modules being imported to the UK ! Supper cool and rare truck these days. There also was an s100 two coupè as well as the four door modle which later became the gradè and the the rapid the salon went onto be the supper estelle and Estelle 120/130
I love facts like this 🥰🥰🥰
Please, try make a video about Trabant or Wartburg! 🙏
Simca became part of the Talbot group which became another roots group marvel..
The Princess 1.7 HL was the very first car I ever owned. Its a shame that most people hated them as I loved it.
Yeah - some people have no taste - lovely looking cars!
Hi Steph, Skoda used to make a 2 door Coupe 110r with same shape front end as the saloon. I don’t know why but they were kind of cool even though they were total rot boxes. Some great cars in that yard and very kind of the owner to let you look around. Have you seen the videos on RUclips with people taking Panda 4x4’s green laning, totally amazing and capable vehicles.
God I’d love a mad mission in a panda
Seriously do a search on RUclips there’s a group here in the uk and they do real mad things with their pandas. Maybe you could hook up and do a review and test drive off road, that would make an awesome video.
The felicia pick up is actually a felicia fun. A two seat pick up that has a party trick. The back wall of the cab pulls out and it turns into a 4 seater
Good to know!
i have the s100L and the s110r in london, might have to get in touch one day
The truck is either an Austin or Morris both the same platform late 50s early 60s.
had a Austin princess in the 80s
You know there was a British Simca! Dad had two of the hatchback derived vans.
The Since also has a wet sleeve motor.
I had 3 pincesses beautiful smooth and comfortable, masses of room,
I’d love a Princess!
The problem with a Mk2 Golf is that they’re solid cars that work well and are reliable
Pfft. Mine wasn’t.
Another great episode. The Fiat Panda at the end brought back some memories. I was between cars and needed one quick so my mate let me borrow his.
Do you like the mk1 Golf gti?
Stupidly I now know it was a MK2 but I hate a golf after my mad life with mine.
I love a Fiat panda tbh
Steph Rocks
Matra Simca 3 seats across the front.....bloke at the first Regiment I was posted to in 1974 Lippstadt Germany.
Wait, did you mention that Mark 2 VW Golf is one your most hated cars? You must have had a bad experience with one or worse you owned a lemon..
while the princess is un-liked today, it was a luxury executive high-end saloon and not cheap either. terry and june had one.......
I’d love a princess
The 403's are nice.
Agreed 🥰

@@idriveaclassic There is an enthusiast group on Facebook. Miles Rowland owns a couple of Princess cars and an Ambassador. Maybe a good person to track down if you were interested.
Hey! I posted on there and nobody’s really got back to me. Good suggestion though x
@@idriveaclassic Oh right. I'm sure Miles would jump at the opportunity as he's a very proud Wedge collector. The Montego saloon was another brilliant car.
The way the boot was insistently forced onto the Maestro platform with that Opera style wrap around rear screen (not seen on the estate of course), it was to me a classic example of Leylands 'Make do and mend' attitude dictated by the lack of funding at the time.
Keep up the good work!
