Good first impression video. I can't wait for the full review. I just went for a ride with mine today too. I'm pretty impressed, I have to say. I think people need this in their lives. Yeah almost positive 😝 mostly positive!
When Brant has a dreamed freecoaster...i on the other hand i remove my chain for freecoaster and use wood to fix my pedals for a week or so just to ride and use zip ties to make the brake lever hold up
@@Brant_Moore this hub reminds me of Karl Poynter's signature hub he designed with EZRA. I think it converted to cassette but he designed 3 rings with different slack. This coaster is like the Ezra coaster fusioned with the profile z coaster
I bet the slack that's there is from it only having 3 pawls instead of 4 pawls when I went from 4 to a 3 pawls hub it felt like there was just a little slack if they put a 4 in it I bet there would be no slack at all but I could be wrong lol
What's the limitations of the engagement/coasting? If you have a slight bit of pedal force does it coast? Can you force the wheel backwards with a slight bit of pedal pressure (hand)? When it's coasting backwards is there any way to make it engage? What happens if the wheel is moving backwards the tiniest tiniest bit and you try to pedal? What happens if the wheel spins backwards then stops spinning, does it engage? Does it need to spin forward for engagement to happen? Try find it's limits and try and break the rules of it do something different to find out exactly what this hub can do and what it's limitations are
Nice vid. I would like to see a comparison with this and a KHE internal type freecoaster as the control. So you can see about disengaging the clutch when setting up for a trick. You were sorta doing it already when you gave one last 1/8th of a crank when approaching the ramp. 20% crew!
I run the odyssey clutch hub .. I don't disengage before a trick for street use. Just naturally land a little back foot heavy and that's enough to disengage it plus I get to use pedal pressure.. The freenight hub kinda feels iffy with the tiny gears with delicate teeth But hey , People had their doubts for the clutch and It's plastic internals and the profile z coaster when they first came out. Now people swear by them.. I think the targeted consumers for this hub will love it after a while . might need a v2 .
In your previous video of the internals you mentioned that you cant pedal forward when going fakie. Do you think the plastic clutch will break if you pedal pressure while in fakie?
They told me today it takes about 10 hours ride time to break it in, if that gives any more insight. I'd say I have another day of riding it to completely call it broken in
@Brant_Moore it’s like a khe internals sometimes it will engage if you notice on some videos some people will do a crank back before they do a fakiey track to make sure the clutch has disengaged but this is with a khe internals hub tho
This is Good first impression video. I like the idea of a coaster but hate the sloppiness of “slack” in the driveline. I want my bike to have a nice crisp response.
It’s perfect for someone like me who is terrible at fakies but rides trails and needs cassette engagement. A lot of others are agreeing by buying the hub as well
I've been using a coaster for 7 yrs now. That coaster does not have enough slack in my opinion. I was hoping this was going to be THE game changer coaster, but it isn't. I tried riding a cassette recently and its like learning to fakie all over again. It didn't win me over. I'm staying on the coaster.
Just an update for anyone who may read this...the hub has unlimited slack after being broken in. You can pedal forward slowly while riding fakie, that’s how much slack it has.
Why wouldn't Free Night break-in the hub before shipping it? who want's to deal with that when changing to a new hub. Although mechanically it is quite clever, having a product where you have to tell the user to not do something (especially in a sport like freestyle BMX) is just asking for trouble. The last thing you want to be thinking about when doing a trick is "don't pedal forward when coasting!" cos shit happens and sometimes your body's instinct is to pedal forward. I hope that this product develops in the near future so that these things are improved.
Because it’s a brand new hub and breaking it in requires actually lacing it up and riding it. All freecoasters have a break in period whether you’ve been told about it or not.
the reason why this is no good is because it doesnt have slack, if you pedal down while goin backwards it engages, this used to fuck up all of my fakie tricks when i had a cassette/coaster switchable hub that kept enganging cause the slack wasnt enough.
This was the very first time I ever rode it. The hub has a break in period of 10 hours of ride time. It very very rarely engages unintentionally after that period
I would like to see more in depth review on this one.
It’s coming for sure!
Glad to see you got yours! :)
Thanks man! It’s been cool so far!

Definitely looking forward to seeing more on this hub. Thanks
Thank you! Definitely more coming soon!
This hub will blow up, I'm sure, people that love cassettes like me will probs love this
I think so to! In the blow up in popularity sense of the word. haha
Nice vid. What’s the tennis ball in the spokes for? I’m starting to ride mtb street and always see it on bmx
Thanks! Its just something I found while riding. No purpose other than a souvenir really
Thanks for the review, look forward to seeing more.
Thank you for watching! More coming for sure
Bro I’m glad your channel was recommended to me 👊 awesome vids
Hey thank you so much!!!
Yeahhhh its called the Profile Z-Coaster. Some one should invent a free coaster with a coaster break.
@Merc Zuckerborg Yeah I know, we need a 14mm street approved one.
When Brant has a dreamed freecoaster...i on the other hand i remove my chain for freecoaster and use wood to fix my pedals for a week or so just to ride and use zip ties to make the brake lever hold up
thats really cool i hope i can get one
I hope so too!
Is there more slack options for it
No not currently. I don’t know if there will be since it’s a cassette when pedaling
@@Brant_Moore this hub reminds me of Karl Poynter's signature hub he designed with EZRA. I think it converted to cassette but he designed 3 rings with different slack. This coaster is like the Ezra coaster fusioned with the profile z coaster
It was inspired by that hub, but has a different designed clutch system that makes disengaging not necessary
I bet the slack that's there is from it only having 3 pawls instead of 4 pawls when I went from 4 to a 3 pawls hub it felt like there was just a little slack if they put a 4 in it I bet there would be no slack at all but I could be wrong lol
That's what I was guessing too
hey, is this one of those hubs where you can like pedal forward while rolling backwards? i think its called a moonwalk but im not sure
Yes
@@Brant_Moore thats sick lol. i just got an fx2 but after it i want a planetary.
Looks pretty crazy. I’m interested how it holds up

I will make notes of these and test them!
Coming tomorrow!

That's a good idea. I might have to figure out a way to compare all 3!
oh that's where the bike check was filmed! good video by the way!
Yes it is! My home park. And thank you!

Those small gears in the planetary system are never under any stress though so we will see in the future!
@@Brant_Mooreeven when you use pedal pressure to turn out of a fakie or while learning fullcabs?
What bars are you running those are awesome?!?
They’re Nowear BMX Street Treats
Awesome thanks man!
In your previous video of the internals you mentioned that you cant pedal forward when going fakie. Do you think the plastic clutch will break if you pedal pressure while in fakie?
Im not sure which part it stresses but it does stress something to give full force pedaling forward while fakie-ing.
Hopefully I don't find out though
@Brant_Moore oh wow that must feel weird going fakie but the backpedal is actually forward
Check out the video I post tomorrow, its got answers to alottt of the questions people have had
Heck yeah bro
Is it a Durable hub?
So about a day to break it in Is that fair to say? Great video by the way. This hub has me intrigued. 👍👍
They told me today it takes about 10 hours ride time to break it in, if that gives any more insight.
I'd say I have another day of riding it to completely call it broken in
By the looks of it you got keep your feet level Brant with that hub
That's what it seems like but at the same time there are plenty of situations where pedal pressure was applied and it still coasted
@Brant_Moore it’s like a khe internals sometimes it will engage if you notice on some videos some people will do a crank back before they do a fakiey track to make sure the clutch has disengaged but this is with a khe internals hub tho
I wish i could have a frame like yours .. my idol
Thanks for showing this hub I suck at fakes lol but I need that cassette sound bit with this hubs functionality
Hopefully you runn it long enough for a long term durability review. Skeptical of the internal strength, might be a good park coaster though.
my propper select hub has no slack and is silent. This video is a few years old tho maybe it wasn’t around then.
I always assumed Profile's hubs were the best but looks like they have competition now
You should run 4 pegs bro more trick you got 👍🏻
I probably will end up with them one day
This is Good first impression video. I like the idea of a coaster but hate the sloppiness of “slack” in the driveline. I want my bike to have a nice crisp response.
You can fakie and pedal forwerd at the same time but you need do it slowly
Yes absolutely. I figured it out and showed it in another video about it
I want one now 😥
They're available!!
I would like 2 have it ,
Give that hub to Bruce Crisman. Easy as that!
Haha fakie hops down stairs all day long!
What’s those squeaking sounds?
😎👍
Cassette wheels ftw
Odyssey clutch v2 is the closest to freenight.
This seems kind of stupid like if you want a free coaster get one and if you want a cassette then get one
It’s perfect for someone like me who is terrible at fakies but rides trails and needs cassette engagement. A lot of others are agreeing by buying the hub as well
10k?
10k what?
The point of slow engagement is it gives that much more room to pedal forward and still not engage... He had problems with it...
Freecoasters i know a guy
Hmmmmmm I might too
I thought I was the last guy to ever have a cassette, but there still seems to be a lot of love still.

it isn't supposed to have slack. It's supposed to be a freecoaster with cassette engagement, but freecoast fakie.
@@adamfairhurstdesign it has to have slack while youre going backwards so it doesnt randomly engage as soon as you press your feet down
