Planetary BMX Freecoasters EXPLAINED - Simultaneous Cassette & Coaster!

- Planetary BMX Freecoasters have taken BMX by storm over the past year with multiple companies making one of their own...But how do they work?!
Alienation has just released the Venus Freecoaster hub which utilizes the Free Night Planetary Clutch assembly to be a freecoaster and a cassette hub at the same time. I helped design this hub and even gave it a name! They are available now at bmx mail orders as well as local bike shops who work with JBI. They will know what that means.

Was just on the phone to the boys at bsd Glasgow the other day. Personally I run the clutch v2 and it's a work of art ; Nordstrom is testing the new version now. However, bsd is a head of the freaking game by over a year. In this world that is a huge amount of time. Innovation of masters!!!

Is the planetary unit made of steel? It looks delicate, hopefully it's made of steel. Wish they had a 16 tooth cog ⚙️ available.
Do you know if there is a conversion 14mm to 10mm conversion axel that is compatible with Venus hub? i really would love to have that on my midschool bike :D
I've seen people make their own by machining the axle to accept a bolt but there isnt a kit thats available to buy for it
The Ezra freecoaster and the free Night freecoster and Saltplus Trapez free coaster and the BSD revolution free coaster all have similar internals 👍🚲💨
I want to know if the clutch can be interchangeable, i have a Ezra and i want to buy the bsd clutch to put it on the ezra an see if it works

Can’t wait until more of these come around so the price can go down just slightly. 250$ for a hub is just nonsense when I could easily go get a complete odyssey wheel with hub for the same price brand new. Cant bring myself to spend it on just a hub 😂 they are pretty sweet though
Bsd revolution was 120€ on source a while ago, got it and love it.
I think it has similar design as Stress disco hub

So Brant since you've had its predecessor, the free night hub. Is the Alienation hub internals constructed beefer? If so, how?
Yes definitely as they’re plastic now instead of being 3d printed. That being said, the only force put on them is what is needed to lift the pawls so even the 3d printed material was enough to have never failed on me
The early Freenight hubs required a break in period, each hub was different because of the 3D print. There are a few more cool features in the Venus, the idea was to make it "BMXer proof" haha

How much does it weigh in comparison to your average freecoaster
It’s lighter than a clutch style coaster
My Venus is 155 grams (5.47 oz) lighter than my Cinema FX freecoaster.

Hey, Brant! It would be nice if you could make a cideo regarding servicing these types of hubs, since you got some for a while now and maybe it is not advisable to choke those tiny gears with lots of vaseline
