You will never find someone like you in the mainstream media. Hi John, Im a big fan of your channel. I really admire your brain scratch videos and the awareness they are bringing to many of these cases. I was wondering if you've ever considered making a video about the string of murders along I-45, more commonly known as the Texas killing feilds? I've lived in the area all my life and would love to talk with you more about this particular area. I've watched some videos online as well as the film adaptation and Ive always felt that some of the information thats been presented in the media hasn't been entirely accurate. The most recent victim associated with this area was actually a classmate of mine, who disappeared in 2006. I definitely feel like this is a topic worth discussing, if only to bring awareness to the ever present threat that exists in our community. Thanks again for your videos, I look forward to them every week.
I noticed you asked about "Other Databases". That is so sad. Following crime stories for almost 40 years I have noticed one major issue. Many crime/missing person cases are solved years later, by accident, because of more than one database and little communication. Keep up the great work!
Too true. It would be nice if there was some sort of agency that had the designated task of consolidating all of those resources into one organized database. It would more than likely go a long way into uncovering pertinent information that can lead towards closing a greater percentage of missing persons cases.
It may have absolutely nothing to do with her disappearance whatsoever but, when I was watching this video, Vicki Gatlin kept giving me that "I know her from somewhere feeling". And then I placed her. I'm addicted to All Things On The Investigation Discovery Channel, lol, she was featured on an the an episode of "Fatal Vows: Black Pearl". She was on there to share the story about Tammy Ellis a young woman who was married to Vicky's Ex-Husband David Gatlin who ended up murdering Tammy. Who was released from prison only after a few years. Suffice it to say, if he was capable of murdering his present wife while she was holding their newborn baby in her arms, its not a big leap to think he may have done something to his ex wife. Especially after her being on tv talking about him to the public. Don't know if there's any correlation between the two but is curious circumstances.

I can’t even imagine the pain and torment her family has gone through but what’s more sad is that a lot of times, immediate family members like parents or siblings die without bringing someone to justice for their long-lived heartache.
if the lady on Facebook is her she was posting in December of 2015. no friends. living in her car with her son. 2 people commented on her pic but neither commented on her disappearance. if it is her, what happened to her son who might have been a teenager. why is there no info from DMV for drivers license and description. very weird.

When I go rock hounding and hiking I leave a map. I tell two people and leave a good detailed map of where I'm going in a box on my porch. This way they know what time I left exactly where I'm going when I'll be home. Vehicle make and license#. Because I go by myself.

Yes. This. My husband and I hike. We snap a photo of ourselves and what we are wearing and send it to a family member. Also were we are going and what time we should be back and if necessary the local park ranger station contact for backpacking trips
I fear that Vicki may have met with foul play. Since she appears to have a child, where is he? Is there any info on where she was staying? If she was working? Has a police record? Alternatively, if she is homeless, she may have gone off with her date and either kept it quiet, or (again) met with foul play. There is a huge homeless community that rotates through towns along the gulf coast, and between New Orleans/Slidell in Louisiana and Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula, MS, because there are lots of wooded areas and vacant homes to camp out in, the climate, though wet, is generally mild, and there are numerous food banks and soup kitchens, though a shortage of shelters, so it is easy to move around, survive, and be under the radar. Let's hope she is just staying out of sight.
Vicki Gatlin's (public) Facebook page was updated with a photo on the 16 March this year, the account owner commented on the photo on the same day. On previous public comments it appears as of 30 November 2015 she had a gofundme page and was reportedly living in her car with her son. The gofundme page doesn't appear to exist any more. There is a second Facebook page with the same photo updated on the same day and one on the 22 March. There is 1 other Facebook page that appears to belong to the same person but doesn't appear to have been updated since 2013. Perhaps a homeless/transient person?
Or on a more cynical note, someone who heard about her disappearance decided to try and cash in on it. The Andy Dufresne quote is in her 'about me', She has no friends (on the and 2nd FB acct ), which is always questionable, and the man, if that's supposed to be her son is turned away. I saw no mention of a son in the first FB page, so that's the only thing I couldn't answer. All the pics are also on both pages with the exception of Andy Dufresne. As you stated the 'GoFundMe' is gone. So maybe when her friends found the page they, meaning whoever opened it, closed it, but didn't bother deactivating the FB page. You're thoughts Babelfroggy?
And on the 15th of March, on the 2nd FB (the one John posted) The same made- up pic is posted and on the 19th she comments she's 'headed back up to NOLA to do it right this time'. Hmm Did she come back to Mississippi? Is this her? Did she make a separate FB page so her friends wouldn't know she as homeless? I just don't buy it. 1 person living off the grid...ok, but a mother and what appears to be her grown son?

I am sure this has been brought up several times. But, I am wondering if you have considered doing a Brain scratch on the vanishing women from Chillicothe Ohio. In reality it would have to be a series of videos. But the case is interesting and there is a special series being done on Discover ID, but from my own research there seems to be a lot of info being left out. I would love to see your take on it, and the info that can be found by the Brain scratch viewers.
Call police. You don't know what situation they're in. You could cause them harm, or to run. I don't think you want to address them directly. Taking a picture of the location might be helpful, but I would get the police on the phone and try to keep eyes on them (from a distance).
I would think that in the 20 min of "missing time" of video footage of Willem, he was prob just sitting in his truck waiting for the friend (who was late, but was supposed to meet at noon). I want to know if this fair is one of those traveling fairs that come thru towns for a week or two then move on to the next town? Where I live, a certain fair comes thru every year, and it's known as the "Kimberton Fair Grounds" so that's why I ask. In my state, I watch the news everyday. There's a similar story of a woman who went on a date with a man she met online. She disappeared. It's been 6 months and her family is still waiting for closure. Police warn women to be careful when going on date with a stranger. Some men have evil intentions.

willem..i have a brother who dropped everything...left 3 boys his job ...friends family...went to michigan...got odd jobs paid cash...only...did not drive either...bike only but he owed lots of child support...legal trouble ...he only had minimum wage job...told judge he could not live on 20.00 a week ..what was left after wage garnishment for child support and some bills...he has continued to live there and boys are 30...i don`t know what happened to your loved one...i pray you find he is safe....soon
John, I just want to let you know that I think this is a wonderful thing that you are doing. I haven't even heard of many of these cases and this is an awesome way to get the word out to the public. A woman went missing from my work about 6 years ago and her family would have truly benefited from this type of publicity. You rock!
I will certainly be sharing Willems story. I grew up on Vancouver Island & still have a lot of friends living there. I'm curious to know if surveillance cameras at the ferry terminals were checked? There is only two ways off the Island, by ferry, boat or plane.

Would love to hear your views on it if you wanted to pursue it. In the Malborough sounds early New Years day 1998, Ben Smart and Olivia Hope, 21 and 17, were heading out from a local lodge and were last seen boarding a man's yacht (although a water taxi driver says they boarded a Ketch) and were never seen again. No bodies have been found, but they have been presumed murdered and a man called Scott Watson has been convicted of their murders and imprisoned. Usually it would end there, right? But, there are many questions about how the police handled the evidence and whether they may have just focused on any evidence that tied Watson to the murder, ignoring any that didn't fit in with him being the murderer. Anyway, if you wanted to have a look into it there is a bit of info online if you look up Ben Smart and Olivia Hope, and a Wiki on Scott Watson and one on the Murder of Ben Smart and Olivia Hope. There are also few books that have been written from both sides of the case that are available.

I've been watching your videos for a while now and you do so well at this, you have a practical sense about you that's necessary. anyway this may be a crazy thought but I was thinking if you made and produced a movie about all the people still missing, you know, put it in the movie theaters so people are forced to see these faces, not everybody is on social media, it's just another way of reaching out to the world and expanding your ideas, then maybe more people could be identified, and or found, just by the world watching your movie, a story about how this channel came to be and how you could help humanity further, and get paid for your artistic ideas, because you got it man!! Its common for ppl that don't have a drivers license to register the car in someone else's name. There's no telling who's name it could be in so they probably don't know where to start tracing it without a VIN number.
vickie did bar work...had to know workers customers...drivers license?..would have height weight etc. where is mom?...she is older she has a past ...social security #...she had to get paycheck...or paid cash?...when you bar tend you tip out those that clean tables or make the drinks also...if waiting on table...is she living incognito...for a reason...she has a mission it seems but searching on line for dates....nope...i meet people all the time at gas station stores etc.no one cares for this lady....age? a shame

He literally walked into a bar and never came out, and their are a lot of aspects to the story that have puzzled me since I read about it.
Thanks to you, I think what I am going to do now every time I see a missing persons on tumblr, facebook, or through Nixle alerts--is to check NAMUS, and if they're not on there and there's enough info, create the profile. Fortunately I have seen a lot of local cases be solved in a few days, but I feel absolutely helpless and defeated when I see the ones that go on without conclusion---filing out NAMUS and being able to give families that resource you talked about is certainly something. Thanks for all that you do, the education is just as important as the awareness.

Those lazy copy and paste articles on Vicki are saddening. You hit it on the nail saying that if she were a 20 something blonde girl, this would have been all over the news. Maybe her family will see this and send more information to you for a follow up. With Willem, it could be as simple as him deciding to skip town and not go to court two days later, but it usually isn't when it comes to missing persons. What if he came in contact with the officer who filed the charges against him? It's may not be a conspiracy but writing it off as hiding out isn't fair to his family.
it's easy to live Off the Grid in Mississippi and nobody will know where you're at. I know we have a lot of the same friends. so I think she's from or may have been at one time form Raymond Mississippi. there are lots of places between Jackson and Raymond and Utica that are heavily wooded. No one would know you were ever there. but her Social Circle and Mississippi is some of the upper class people Rich folks.

Hi Marybeth. Im sorry to hear this but i totally get it. My mother is still alive and I know where she is if I want to get a hold of her. But she has 4 children she pretty much abandoned 20+ years ago. For 8 years she was missing and we thought she was dead. She would rather be a crack addict on the street then give any of her children a phone call. I'm not saying your mom was an addict but it doesn't take that to disregard your own children. We are living in selfish times. I always wanted to be a parent but I was never blessed to be one. I cannot believe parents that disregard their own flesh and blood. I understand. I get it. Why would you bother? Stay strong and surround yourself with loving people. I do however hope that justice is found for this woman if she was a victim.
Maybe they don't give license plates so people will call in the vehicle if they see it. if someone changed the plates and we use the plates to rule out the vehicle to report...it would never be found.
People really should tell people when they are leaving to visit random people... I feel like in the only person that doesn't trust anyone and always takes precautions even when visiting extended family.

i like your show, i've always been interested in forensic science, way back when there was city confidential, medical detectives, american justice, missing, etc....now being a mom, a lot of them are very emotional and so sad.

Is it possible that Vicki has turned up and the media has just not reported on it? As you said, she's not considered very newsworthy since she's a middle aged woman. I hope she's ok. About Willem, can his sister get a police report? If so, it would describe the alleged assault and what led up to it in detail. He's not a big guy, and is assumedly unarmed, so I don't see him being such a big threat to a policeman, but a report would clarify.
I agree, VG's info is very vague. I wonder, if those 'throw away" phones can be used to set up a fraudulent fb account? We had a case, (not very far from my home, Dunn N.C actually) where a couple(serial killing couple) was using Craigslist to meet their victims! Great video John! The lack of information on both cases, especially the first one, is appalling! There should be a lot more information about Vicki! Maybe it's just me, but I take my phone with me everywhere, did they check Vicki's phone records and any pings, or her social security number or bank records? It's also odd that they don't know the licence plates of her car. Admittedly I don't know a lot about how things work in the US, but wouldn't there be some kind of paperwork or electronic record of these type of things? Did they find anything on her social media, and do we know what website or app she used to meet the person she was going on a date with? Surely there should be some kind of records for that. The case is incredibly frustrating because there's so much information that we don't know.
If car bought from lot, she'd have, like, 90 days. IF she was moving around or bought from someone who was, she could drive on their plates for up to a year. Which, is why, smarter states, seller keeps plates. Making buyer put car in own name. In La., lots of transient oil rig workers.
where did vickie live...she may not of done things legal as far as car...job...etc.where there is no paper trail...phone bills ? throw away phone?there are people that drive with no license for years they drive other peoples cars...she probobly has drinking problem... as her job...drink and drive...aa...maybe had driving license taken away.....but the cops are very ....not concerned
You're right, its pathetic the lack of effort being put into finding this lady. Its sad that without people to hold police accountable, they seem to not even try to appear like they are taking this seriously. Our police were doing the same thing up here in the greater Vancouver area throughout the 90s. Sure some of the beat cops noticed girls missing ,not showing for welfae cheques and made reports but the brass just pushed it aside. Until the Robert Pickton case exploded. Then the shit hit the fan when it was exposed that dozens of women had been going missing and the cops just ignored it. There was eventually an inquiry but it was frought with protest as those representing the missing women were not given enough resources and the manner in which who and what was to be investiagted. Hopefully all the negative exposure will have the cops here take missing person cases more seriously.
Going off of what you had said about a link for the social media site, wouldn't there most likely be pictures of the person she was planning on meeting? I mean, even if they used a fake name, I'm pretty sure it'd be an obviously shady situation if the person had a picture of "themselves" up and then be a completely different person meeting you. I don't know if anyone would trust a person that had a fake picture of themselves up.

Since he no longer does so much of that other than Itchy Mysteries which has a bit of a hint of his old content in spirit, I would assume he keeps the logo around to keep a small connection to his old content and avoid confusing anyone who finds older content and may not realize it’s him, or even ensure old viewers can find him again if they’ve lost him since then. if the lady on Facebook is her she was posting in December of 2015. no friends. living in her car with her son. 2 people commented on her pic but neither commented on her disappearance. if it is her, what happened to her son who might have been a teenager. why is there no info from DMV for drivers license and description. very weird.

When I go rock hounding and hiking I leave a map. I tell two people and leave a good detailed map of where I'm going in a box on my porch. This way they know what time I left exactly where I'm going when I'll be home. Vehicle make and license#. Because I go by myself.

Yes. This. My husband and I hike. We snap a photo of ourselves and what we are wearing and send it to a family member. Also were we are going and what time we should be back and if necessary the local park ranger station contact for backpacking trips
I fear that Vicki may have met with foul play. Since she appears to have a child, where is he? Is there any info on where she was staying? If she was working? Has a police record?
Alternatively, if she is homeless, she may have gone off with her date and either kept it quiet, or (again) met with foul play. There is a huge homeless community that rotates through towns along the gulf coast, and between New Orleans/Slidell in Louisiana and Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula, MS, because there are lots of wooded areas and vacant homes to camp out in, the climate, though wet, is generally mild, and there are numerous food banks and soup kitchens, though a shortage of shelters, so it is easy to move around, survive, and be under the radar. Let's hope she is just staying out of sight.
Vicki Gatlin's (public) Facebook page was updated with a photo on the 16 March this year, the account owner commented on the photo on the same day. On previous public comments it appears as of 30 November 2015 she had a gofundme page and was reportedly living in her car with her son. The gofundme page doesn't appear to exist any more. There is a second Facebook page with the same photo updated on the same day and one on the 22 March. There is 1 other Facebook page that appears to belong to the same person but doesn't appear to have been updated since 2013.
Perhaps a homeless/transient person?

Or on a more cynical note, someone who heard about her disappearance decided to try and cash in on it. The Andy Dufresne quote is in her 'about me', She has no friends (on the and 2nd FB acct ), which is always questionable, and the man, if that's supposed to be her son is turned away. I saw no mention of a son in the first FB page, so that's the only thing I couldn't answer. All the pics are also on both pages with the exception of Andy Dufresne. As you stated the 'GoFundMe' is gone. So maybe when her friends found the page they, meaning whoever opened it, closed it, but didn't bother deactivating the FB page. You're thoughts Babelfroggy?
And on the 15th of March, on the 2nd FB (the one John posted) The same made- up pic is posted and on the 19th she comments she's 'headed back up to NOLA to do it right this time'. Hmm Did she come back to Mississippi? Is this her? Did she make a separate FB page so her friends wouldn't know she as homeless? I just don't buy it. 1 person living off the grid...ok, but a mother and what appears to be her grown son?

Call police. You don't know what situation they're in. You could cause them harm, or to run. I don't think you want to address them directly. Taking a picture of the location might be helpful, but I would get the police on the phone and try to keep eyes on them (from a distance).

I would think that in the 20 min of "missing time" of video footage of Willem, he was prob just sitting in his truck waiting for the friend (who was late, but was supposed to meet at noon).

In my state, I watch the news everyday. There's a similar story of a woman who went on a date with a man she met online. She disappeared. It's been 6 months and her family is still waiting for closure. Police warn women to be careful when going on date with a stranger. Some men have evil intentions.

willem..i have a brother who dropped everything...left 3 boys his job ...friends family...went to michigan...got odd jobs paid cash...only...did not drive either...bike only but he owed lots of child support...legal trouble ...he only had minimum wage job...told judge he could not live on 20.00 a week ..what was left after wage garnishment for child support and some bills...he has continued to live there and boys are 30...i don`t know what happened to your loved one...i pray you find he is safe....soon

I will certainly be sharing Willems story. I grew up on Vancouver Island & still have a lot of friends living there. I'm curious to know if surveillance cameras at the ferry terminals were checked? There is only two ways off the Island, by ferry, boat or plane.

In the Malborough sounds early New Years day 1998, Ben Smart and Olivia Hope, 21 and 17, were heading out from a local lodge and were last seen boarding a man's yacht (although a water taxi driver says they boarded a Ketch) and were never seen again. No bodies have been found, but they have been presumed murdered and a man called Scott Watson has been convicted of their murders and imprisoned. Usually it would end there, right? But, there are many questions about how the police handled the evidence and whether they may have just focused on any evidence that tied Watson to the murder, ignoring any that didn't fit in with him being the murderer.
Anyway, if you wanted to have a look into it there is a bit of info online if you look up Ben Smart and Olivia Hope, and a Wiki on Scott Watson and one on the Murder of Ben Smart and Olivia Hope. There are also few books that have been written from both sides of the case that are available.
So glad you recommended this case...I was thinking of mentioning it myself..heres hoping John will have a look into it at some stage.

I've been watching your videos for a while now and you do so well at this, you have a practical sense about you that's necessary. anyway this may be a crazy thought but I was thinking if you made and produced a movie about all the people still missing, you know, put it in the movie theaters so people are forced to see these faces, not everybody is on social media, it's just another way of reaching out to the world and expanding your ideas, then maybe more people could be identified, and or found, just by the world watching your movie, a story about how this channel came to be and how you could help humanity further, and get paid for your artistic ideas, because you got it man!! Its common for ppl that don't have a drivers license to register the car in someone else's name. There's no telling who's name it could be in so they probably don't know where to start tracing it without a VIN number.
vickie did bar work...had to know workers customers...drivers license?..would have height weight etc. where is mom?...she is older she has a past ...social security #...she had to get paycheck...or paid cash?...when you bar tend you tip out those that clean tables or make the drinks also...if waiting on table...is she living incognito...for a reason...she has a mission it seems but searching on line for dates....nope...i meet people all the time at gas station stores etc.no one cares for this lady....age? a shame

He literally walked into a bar and never came out, and their are a lot of aspects to the story that have puzzled me since I read about it.

Thanks to you, I think what I am going to do now every time I see a missing persons on tumblr, facebook, or through Nixle alerts--is to check NAMUS, and if they're not on there and there's enough info, create the profile. Fortunately I have seen a lot of local cases be solved in a few days, but I feel absolutely helpless and defeated when I see the ones that go on without conclusion---filing out NAMUS and being able to give families that resource you talked about is certainly something. Thanks for all that you do, the education is just as important as the awareness.

It sounds like no one cared too much about Vicki. Even her "wait for the book" comment sounds like her mom was disappointed in her. Any scratchers in New Orleans with power who can investigate further? It sounds like she was hopeful and happy in her Facebook comment. A new love will do that. I wonder how soon before her disappearance was that written? I don't have Facebook so I don't know how it works. Does it still show her Facebook friends? Did she have any?

Those lazy copy and paste articles on Vicki are saddening. You hit it on the nail saying that if she were a 20 something blonde girl, this would have been all over the news. Maybe her family will see this and send more information to you for a follow up.
With Willem, it could be as simple as him deciding to skip town and not go to court two days later, but it usually isn't when it comes to missing persons. What if he came in contact with the officer who filed the charges against him? It's may not be a conspiracy but writing it off as hiding out isn't fair to his family.
it's easy to live Off the Grid in Mississippi and nobody will know where you're at. I know we have a lot of the same friends. so I think she's from or may have been at one time form Raymond Mississippi. there are lots of places between Jackson and Raymond and Utica that are heavily wooded. No one would know you were ever there. but her Social Circle and Mississippi is some of the upper class people Rich folks.

Im sorry to hear this but i totally get it. My mother is still alive and I know where she is if I want to get a hold of her. But she has 4 children she pretty much abandoned 20+ years ago. For 8 years she was missing and we thought she was dead. She would rather be a crack addict on the street then give any of her children a phone call. I'm not saying your mom was an addict but it doesn't take that to disregard your own children. We are living in selfish times. I always wanted to be a parent but I was never blessed to be one. I cannot believe parents that disregard their own flesh and blood. I understand. I get it. Why would you bother? Stay strong and surround yourself with loving people.
I do however hope that justice is found for this woman if she was a victim.

Maybe they don't give license plates so people will call in the vehicle if they see it. if someone changed the plates and we use the plates to rule out the vehicle to report...it would never be found.

Is it possible that Vicki has turned up and the media has just not reported on it? As you said, she's not considered very newsworthy since she's a middle aged woman. I hope she's ok. About Willem, can his sister get a police report? If so, it would describe the alleged assault and what led up to it in detail. He's not a big guy, and is assumedly unarmed, so I don't see him being such a big threat to a policeman, but a report would clarify.
I agree, VG's info is very vague. I wonder, if those 'throw away" phones can be used to set up a fraudulent fb account? We had a case, (not very far from my home, Dunn N.C actually) where a couple(serial killing couple) was using Craigslist to meet their victims! Maybe it's just me, but I take my phone with me everywhere, did they check Vicki's phone records and any pings, or her social security number or bank records? It's also odd that they don't know the licence plates of her car. Admittedly I don't know a lot about how things work in the US, but wouldn't there be some kind of paperwork or electronic record of these type of things? Did they find anything on her social media, and do we know what website or app she used to meet the person she was going on a date with? Surely there should be some kind of records for that. The case is incredibly frustrating because there's so much information that we don't know.
If car bought from lot, she'd have, like, 90 days. IF she was moving around or bought from someone who was, she could drive on their plates for up to a year. Which, is why, smarter states, seller keeps plates. Making buyer put car in own name. In La., lots of transient oil rig workers.
where did vickie live...she may not of done things legal as far as car...job...etc.where there is no paper trail...phone bills ? throw away phone?there are people that drive with no license for years they drive other peoples cars...she probobly has drinking problem... as her job...drink and drive...aa...maybe had driving license taken away.....but the cops are very ....not concerned

Its sad that without people to hold police accountable, they seem to not even try to appear like they are taking this seriously.
Our police were doing the same thing up here in the greater Vancouver area throughout the 90s.
Sure some of the beat cops noticed girls missing ,not showing for welfae cheques and made reports but the brass just pushed it aside. Until the Robert Pickton case exploded. Then the shit hit the fan when it was exposed that dozens of women had been going missing and the cops just ignored it. There was eventually an inquiry but it was frought with protest as those representing the missing women were not given enough resources and the manner in which who and what was to be investiagted.
Hopefully all the negative exposure will have the cops here take missing person cases more seriously.
Going off of what you had said about a link for the social media site, wouldn't there most likely be pictures of the person she was planning on meeting? I mean, even if they used a fake name, I'm pretty sure it'd be an obviously shady situation if the person had a picture of "themselves" up and then be a completely different person meeting you. I don't know if anyone would trust a person that had a fake picture of themselves up.

I believe Geekendorx.TV is his old channel name/series name he used for his older non-BrainScratch content, as his content was self described as rather “geeky” and “dorky” and focused often on pop culture and his general personality and tastes. Since he no longer does so much of that other than Itchy Mysteries which has a bit of a hint of his old content in spirit, I would assume he keeps the logo around to keep a small connection to his old content and avoid confusing anyone who finds older content and may not realize it’s him, or even ensure old viewers can find him again if they’ve lost him since then. That’s just how I read it, I’m not John, so of course his reasoning could be totally different.
