    This was my first time I watched a documentary about designing sounds for a movie. I really like Denis idea that the sound should not be the last thing at the end of making a movie and instead should be a first class citizen! Sound can convey so many different emotions and feelings and thus its as important as everything else. I've worked on and been around some local films in my area and one thing I heard a sound mix engineer say that stuck with me is that sound can make or break a movie, even if its visuals are gorgeous. I've seen a bunch of local short films at festivals and there's been a few with killer visuals, costumes, acting, etc. but pretty badly mixed and lazily edited sound design, and it honestly ruined the immersion because the dialogue was hard to hear and the sounds were cheesy.

  • @jdnm797
    @jdnm797 Год назад +21

    It blows my mind that sound design isn't conventionally an early part of the pre-production process in film. Concept art informs the look and feel of films at these early stages, I'd have thought sound would be too - particularly in cinema, sound is just as important as visuals to create an immersive experience.

      Movie is awesome. I would have to see it again to really think about the sound specifically.(I’ll be honest, I think my theater was too loud, some of the movie previews were painfully loud. Anyways…)
      I think the movie is even better than part one and explores the themes of dune well.

    Loved the cinematography, acting, script and visual effects. The spectacle and aura of the film is marvellous. It’s amazing the visual flair that’s present in all of Denis’s films, even going back to August 32nd on Earth. Read the book after seeing the film and I wished there was some more character development from characters such as Hawat, Yueh and Jessica. Anyway, still a magnificent film.

    What a beautifully made movie. I wish studios would make more movies like this, on the level of greats like Lawrence of Arabia.

    The sound of Baron Harkonnen's electromechanical spine sounds a lot like the sound of Combine door locks in Half-Life 2.

    I missed it in theaters because of COVID, the sound alone must've made this movie a whole new experience. I missed gravity too, that must've been amazing.

    Truly inspiring. I use to work in post production then transferred to work as a free lancer.. Once I bought my gear I hustled as a mixer/boom Op and doing dialogue and Foley editing on the side. I still do.. Its still hard because work sometimes falls through. Ultimately I want to continue scoring but since some arent willing to pay the right budget or keep rushing the process. It makes it hard to make a living. At least for someone like me, in my position.. Im a musician and I just got into the union as an A2. I hope it picks up!! Please I hope work picks up... I hope new producers see this and actually figure out how to have better budgets for smaller films so people can come up.. I want to go back doing scores..
