Hey guys, I've used solar powered gate openers on my farm for @15 years. The gates are programmed to be slightly staggered so they can properly overlap. I didn't see it, but you must have a solar charge controller in the system to regulate constant power to the batteries or they will get fried over time. I have found over the years that the provided solar panels just aren't adequate for tropical climates. 10 watts is not enough for 2 marine batteries and days of cloudy weather. Just this year I finally broke down and bought a 100 watt big daddy so the batteries are at constant power for several days of clouds. A good Uncle Matty trick is to wire in a constant LED light on the inside so you can see at all times if the system is working correctly--No light=no power. Your PC board has a flashing terminal on it and you can wire another LED on the outside to start flashing when you hit the remote from the outside.

You need to put toppers on your fence and gates, rain water will soak into the gaps and end grain..Your hard work won't last 5 minutes with the amount of rain you get there.

Did you fill the cinder block cells with concrete where you bolted the hydraulic ram to the wall??
If not you still can by taping a hole above and below. Stuff the cell below with wadded up paper to hold the new concrete poured in the top hole. If there is no existing concrete filled in those cells, your ram screws into the wall will not last long at all. They will eventually wobble loose as you are using the gates.
Also, stick wheels on the bottoms of both gates to keep them from sagging. Otherwise they will continue to sag, and you will be always sanding to make them meet and close all the way.
Kristen, your man MATT is one freakin talented man! Treat him right girl!!!

Since when does not having worked or done something ever stop you from doing it without instructions, for that matter, even paying attention to instructions or research? You do it! Did you take a power failure into consideration regarding the gate's operation? Do you have a backup? Do you remember the wall is built using cinderblocks? Should you not use an anchor to give it more surface to spread the holding load? Tapcons are for concrete, if I remember correctly. You need holding strength here. When you say something should not be an issue, it will surely be. We still love you!

Good job with the operator installation. To adjust how far the gates open refer to page 27 of the manual adjusting limits and adjust the “A” limit next to the pivot point of the wall bracket. To change the gate to open and close at the same time change the #3 and #4 dip switches to off. This is on so if you have a mag lock or strike installed. If you have any problems with the batteries in the future make sure you swap to Marine Deep Cycle batteries. They stay charged better on solar applications. Gate operators is what I do for a living. Enjoy!

If you ever want an inexspensive capping method for your double wooden fence, look into square shaped gutter lengths that come in all widths and colours. Here in South Africa its made of galvanised metal but oversees I see it comes in compound material thats like plastic. Just something to think about seeing as you have so much rain on the open top end of the wood grain boards.

Your entry really is impressive ; we've had an electric gate for many years and it makes for a much more secure property . One thing matt if the gates develope any sagging i've seen people mount small wheels for added stability . Also build a small enclosure for your batteries ... you know all this stuff your a good builder ! BTW : Congradulations on the wedding plans go team go !

For wooden gate sage use cable and a cable tensioner for the cross brace. That way you can adjust it. Using a wood cross brace causes the gate to warp when the wood dries.

Matt, I believe your batteries will drain quickly if left stored on the concrete block. You need to build a wood shelf. Check with your battery supplier.

That’s was belief with batteries for a long time however with newer batteries it is not true, and in fact the cement can act as a heat sink and keep the batteries cooler to hold a better charge.

Nice job!!! Just a side note..never ever bang on a battery post. It could loosen the internal connection inside the battery. If this happens when the battery get under load it could spark and blow up. Had it happen on a battery a customer banged with. Hammer to smash the battery clamp on the battery. Luckily it just popped the top off the battery but the smell of atomized acid was pretty strong and there were many holes in my jeans and shirt after the next washing so I definitely got sprayed a bit. The doors and fence look great.

Every “estate” needs a name. Like to put on your gate. You need to name of your place!

Gate Expert! I fabricate Gates and do electronic work, and have for years, not a big fan of those cheaper ones, but if installed right they do work. couple tips: you do need to bolt through the wood with big washers, the constant push pull will eventually work out the wood screws you used, Get 3/8" or metric equivalent all thread and epoxy set for the arm mount on the concrete, use all 4 holes to ensure the same issue. those points will cause failure and remember you built 2 big sails that will catch a lot of wind. the delay is for a overlap, should be able to adjust that out, its listed under leaf 2 delay.

Cut an end cap for each end of the gates, would really give the gates a polished look. Just a suggestion 😊
