You nailed it. TATA 407 4X4 is THE way to go - the Indian mini-UNIMOG!! I have been planning on this for the past 4-5 years and I think in 2023, I shall start - hopefully. Also, I would suggest that the camper-box be configured for articulation so that there is no damage from the torsional stresses. I would suggest a 3-point substructure between the chassis and the box.
Do let us know how it goes. Especially the availability of the 407 4X4 with white plates.

I have just started my journey for caravan life (for a family of 6). My first biggest hurdle is, new vehicle cost and then the unclear RTO rules. I shortlisted Tata Winger because of better looks but my dream was shattered after watching your other video.

Back when I was a student and my dad was posted in remotest Jungles of Dang Gujarat in 2010, I remember there was Mahindra workshop, infact even in remotest villages in Forest you would easily find a good talented Mahindra Bolero Mechanic. The best thing about Bolero is that you won't get stranded for too long anywhere in country incase your car breaks down which makes it somewhat a perfect Caravan candidate in my opinion.

Very impressive vlog. Presently I will modify my Honda BRV. I am seriously looking at Eicher bus/truck body new/used under 9000 kg GVW, which can be registered and not requiring commercial DL. The engines are very powerful. The useful area for caravan too is very good.

Really nice video. Just out of curiosity, when idle, started to browse through, but got stuck to see a very fine, comprehensive, well made video that is far excellent documentary with relevant, crisp information, graphics, pictures and videos. Kudos to the versatility. I have one sleeping unit made on my old TaTa Safari, during covid time use to stay off station for social distancing.

Found it impressive and practical - that Some of the costs mentioned by you were towards the lower end of the price range - it's rare to see that on a public forum.
Since you propose only approved methods, I wonder how do the campers dispose the waste water & waste - Do they get innovative themselves? Are there practical & legit ways ? And where do you get to water for the shower on Eeco or Bolero class !!

swaraj mazda 4x4 looks like the ultimate camper, but it's military and very rare. I like the tata 713 4x4, the only drawback is that the cabin is separated.
U can cut the cabin and make it single box

Sir I have maruti ECCO and want to change in Caravan. Can you suggest me any shop name where I canvert it in carvan near Delhi or in Delhi.
Sir what about TATA winger?? Can't we convert it to camper van by RTO?? If yes, what all the details required to convert in RTO?
You also get a shell vehicle that you can convert but need to plan well to accommodate in small area.

Hi. Amazing and very well researched content. Loved it.!❤ Well, MB Sprinter is very popular for caravans in the west. Somewhat closer options in India are Tempo traveller and Tata Winger. TT is a good choice but since it is huge, might not be good for self driving and also has higher body roll due to higher CG and GC. Next option is Winger. Can we upgrade Winger’s tire size so that little more GC is achieved and can be used in rougher terrains?
Hey Ajith, force traveller has very lopw body roll and the 3050 variant is smaller than a scorpio. I am making a video on Winger.

Hi Thanks, i have been a travel enthusiast but not been traveling due to financial constraint. Interesting to know an overlander can be constructed under Rs 8.00 lacs, But, the one question is what will be the impact on the B pillar in case a roof top is to be installed? and what is the mechanical issues one faces if the vehicle stability has to take care of. Am not an engineer but these are a few questions i have to ask upfront.
These are very relevant questions, As i mentioned in my video, if your car is above 1500 CC then most likely it is capable of handling upto 300 kgs so a 2 to 3 person RTT would be good. Stability wont be a concern as most of the RTTs are constructed aerodynamically.

This is intriguing. I live in USA and will be moving back to India in 2024 permanently after 14 long years. I have done some vanlife in USA using my Honda Odyssey i have been to Utah, st louis, Texas, Kansas etc. When i left India in 2011 there was no concept of vanlife in India even if there there would have been very small. But thanks for building this channel up. I am certainly going to invest in a project when i move back to India. a Camper for my family of 4.

Hi, Excellent research and a real rich experience shared. However I have a question... Any model that cannot be registered as a "Caravan", for e.g Nissan Evalia, how can that be converted into a camper van, without actually having an approval from the transport authority?
Reason that I am asking this question is because I also have a Tata 4x4 pickup truck, which of-course is a discontinued model. However the one that I have has a valid RC till 2028. I am actually planning to convert that in a bolero type model. What are your thoughts on it?
Actually, converting an existing vehicle makes a lot of sense as I will save on the vehicle cost. Then all I need to do is actually spend on the conversion. So please suggest.
Well very valid question, Unfortunately our policies are ill drafted. As per AIS 124 you cant register a 3 years old vehicle into CARAVAN.

Bro, I have a Ford EcoSport and I intend to put it in overlanding immediately. I have already bought some of the most essential caping gear and some winter gears also. I am planning on removing the rear seat if need be but for now I am actually using rear seat to sleep in. Let me join the overlading group. thanks

Hi.. I loved this video.. very professionally done research.. Can you have a video of how a van for family of 4 could be built as I notice this video seems for only 2 persons travelling... Next .. where are the locations where you can park your Van, Dispose the waste, Get Fresh water etc.. Is India Ready for Van Life?? There are no public toilets in most of India Accept in My state which is extremely tourist Friendly... Even then there are no Caravan Parks where you can connect you Van and Camp...

Tempo traveller inmy view is very good,and then TATA 407 is perfect choice.
TATA Winger 2023 model also a good option. Not to forget Maruthi Omni for basic requirements.
