Fun project! It is amazing to see the amount of detail they put on these older speakers like the cardboard deflector/diffuser they put around the woofer and the damping material. Nice video!

Thanks, this is the best video on cap replacement in speakers that i have watched. seems less arduous now.

Nice system at the end! I’m considering replacing my Sansui SPX9000 crossovers. I know I have 3 bad on one speaker. My Carver 6250 hit them with hard feed back when it recently smoked. I just hope I didn’t burn the supertweeters... haven’t tested them yet. But if the drivers are all good🤞🏻I’ll try it. I have to find a good online parts supply.

    Sir
I have pioneer private pro sx 730 a couple of speaker on high volume one tweeter is automatic turnoff for 10sec after 10sec it works again
    What should I do?

I have similar profi 140's I got used. Thinking about this -but mine don't have binding posts... Thinking about installing also since the speaker wires are just directly connected into the components (like my turntable, it's really annoying not to be able to swap cables).
Where did you get your stands (i want!) !!??

When you say "upgrade" you mean a newer version of same cap right?

Good video! Can you tell please what is original values of capacitors, mine was changed so am not sure its original values, and why is good to replace fuse with resistor...what is value also of resistor?

Mresearch Hi, thanks a lot! I have checked the photos I took before the replacement. following values:
      8,2uf 63v (blue)
      10uf 63v (orange small)
      33uf 63v (orange large)
      0,22 Ohm 5W (fuse)

You need to upgrade your solder iron to 80watts 😊

If I may ask, why did you replace these caps in the first place? I am asking because I have an old sony speakers suffering distortion at high volume (one of the 2). Could the caps be the problem? 🤔 The speaker looks intact including the rubber parts..

If I may answer on behalf of Hi-vintage: Capacitors we call electrolytic have inside a liquid electrolyte which evaporate overtime. That gives them a life span of around 20 years, depending on power usage and number of hours. Even if they weren't use for years, they still degrade. This is also true for any electronic devices but particularly if a lot of current flows through them. As for your Sonys speakers it may be the capacitor but it may also be one of the drivers been overdriven which can difform the suspension and voice coil . You will have to open them and test them individualy to verify if that is the case.

@@yvesboutin5604 Thank you very much for replying. I did indeed open them both and the caps tested 2.36uF on the bad one and 2.2uF on the good. They have ELNA caps rated 2.2uF
Not an expert on electronics so I don't know if the the value affects performance on the bad one. However I found out which frequency distorts and I raised the volume a bit while playing that frequency and the speaker went from bad to clear in a matter of seconds! No explanation why that happened since I don't understand the basics here but I am really glad it works as good as the good one!
I should make a video of them both as I love how they sound now with a new amp.
Thank you and I appreciate the effort and time you took to reply 🤗

@@hippohoppa There is also the possibility of a loose wire or a defect in the gluing of the cabinet that make it resonate, but I still suspect this could be a driver problem. Concerning the capacitors, you can change for Mylar or polypropylene also named 'polycap' at a reasonable cost. At the same time, you can check if there is enough damping material like foam or 'polyfill'. If there is not enough, sound balance could be more midrangy and there might be too much chestiness in male voices. Don't be afraid to try many options by changing only one speaker and checking them side by side to see which one sound best. This could be a fun project and a learning experience. Bye!

Where did you get the capacitors, who recommended you replace the fuse? Do they sell online?

Casey Link hi. I bought them at a local Hi-Fi store, they also gave the recommendation. But yes, you can find them also online. I’m sure also on eBay. Just type in the values and you’ll find it.
