One thing that doesn't make sense is that Alice is a surgeon in the real world, so people would definitely notice if she suddenly went missing, not showing up for her busy shifts. Also, if they were barely getting by on just Alice's income, then how is Jack's job managing to pay for the entire simulation fees?

If alice was stuck in the simulation 24/7, this means her husband would constantly have to feed her, clean her, change her diapers (since she can't go to the bathroom), and manually exercise her so her muscles won't atrophy and die. How is this in any way better than the life he was living?
Also, when she escaped, wouldn't she wake strapped to her bed next to her husband's corpse? Because this means that, if she didn't find a way to free herself, she would end up dying of starvation or thirst.

That way everyone could get tired and bored of it all and try to break out, but they wouldn’t be able to die. 9:11 my only disagreement is that it feels less like it's because he's an incel despite having a beautiful girl, and more that it's preying on the notions of masculinity he might either have prescribed to or have been indoctrinated into by the internet. He feels inadequate because he has this beautiful woman, but not only is she providing, he often feels like she thinks he's a nuisance becaude of how she responds to the prodding he doesn't realize is the actual issue for her. So he makes the "grand sacrifice" of becoming a better man and providing for her and letting her live her "dream" without her consent. It's not the inceldom, in my mind, as much as it is the push of hypermasculinity and semi-fascist feelings that both the aesthetic and the setting provide. What is Jack's job in the vr world. Who's keeping them alive in the real world. It's would be impossible for Jack to know how to keep Alice alive unless he has some kind of medical training. Why did he pick a British accent as his undercover identity. Harry styles is a bad actor. This movie has no idea how incels works. By the fact he's married he's not an incel. Why did Gemma chan kill Chris pine at the end. You can tell why Shia was casted in the movie cause he can handle every scenes with Florence. The last act throws every twist at you except for I see dead people. You can tell this script wasn't fully thought out except for the visuals

      1. You see alice's feet being dragged at one point so I think that implies that he knocked her out and then plugged her up to the machine which keeps her sedated
      2. Not sure how no one notices alice is missing
      3. I think the plane is an meant to be a hallucination from alice linked to Alison's childs old toy
      3. Jack doesn't have a job in the simulation it's just a cover for the fact that all the men have to leave the simulation to do jobs in real world to earn money to pay for simulation and maybe keep an eye on alice's physical body too
4.I think part of the program he is a part of will tell him and other users how to keep her alive and whatever she is hooked up to which keeps her in the simulation will be keeping her alive too
      5. Harry styles is british i don't think he was only british in simulation
      6. I don't think his acting was as bad as everyone is saying didn't take me put of the film at any point
      7. Yes he is in a relationship which is not really characteristic an incel but his actions of forcing her to live in a simulation where people fulfill the traditional role that incel communities tend to think were right and they want society revert is pretty incel behaviour
      8. I don't know if it's ever noted that they are married in the real world, existing relationship yes (just thought because if they had existing honeymoon why would they be given the same honeymoon locations as some others)
      9. I think gemma killed chris at the end bc she believed alice and realised things were strange or she had worked it out before but was waiting for the right time to fight for her freedom bc she had seen others try and fail
Also the film definitely could have had a longer act 3 and cut some of act 2 and would have benefitted from less drama from the cast!

This movie is like a criticism of incel culture by someone whose only knowledge of it is the secondhand info they’re told on Twitter. Wilde makes Chris pine’s character a commentary on Jordan Peterson because social media paints him as a bad guy even if they haven’t actually heard anything he’s said. All the men in the town are incels because social media says they’re evil but don’t actually know what makes them like that. Imo Riddler was a better commentary on incel culture with his “poor me” mentality, but the movie even says that people like him aren’t born in a bubble. There’s a reason why.

The cult like attitude which would stay as it was forever if the cult leader had their way. But then an inciting incident happens (the plane crash) which introduces something/someone new to the world creating a new perspective making the people question what they knew before and driving them to want to leave or find out what was hidden. Then that natrually creates the conflict with the cult leader who wants the status quo to stay the same

This is just another in the post-mee2 "all men are bad" movies. Men (2020), Black Christmas, Charlie's Angels, The Invitation, Resurrection (2022), they just keep making them. Even TV shows like She Hulk do it as well.

    • @danielrafferty4108
      @danielrafferty4108 2 года назад

I'm not sure about the Movie Men. I don't think its trying to say that all men are bad but that abusive men father abusive sons and that all she can fixate on in the aftermath of her traumatic relationship is these cycles. That's why everyone is played by the same actor, with cookie cutter toxicity behind their demeanour actions and dialogue. Because she's mentally incapable of seeing things any differently. By the end even in the face of such cycles she loses her fear of it and it is stripped down to the root cause. A cowardly man who puts his need to be loved above all else. Killing the guilt that she's been living in the shadow of when she realises that this isn't her fault frees her from the horrific events and her paranoid outlook. Granted I might be looking too much into it and giving it more depth than is there but that's what I took away from the movie.
As for the rest of the movies, I haven't seen The Invitation (Thought you were talking about the 2015 movie for a second, if you haven't seen it you might like it. It's an thriller with an on the nose plot that still manages to be good.) or ressurection but I whole heartedly agree with the rest of you list anti-man hit pieces.
I remember watching the advert of this and thinking "So it's the matrix / under the dome meets Stepford Houswives, pass." but the Jordon peterson stuff I came across got me curious regardless. By the sounds of it I'm glad I skipped this one.

The script was hacked into a knockoff of the original Stepford Wives (book and original 1976) and it shows when a few scenes homage the SW. Frank watches Alice having sex like how the SW villain watches the protagonist doing dishes.

0:32 - Movies based off of good trailers? Both TLT and DWD had trailers that, I felt at least, were quite bad. I could tell the jokes were bad in the TLT trailer, but remained cautiously optimistic until release because I liked Ragnarok. DWD's was just confusion, but not the good kind that creates mystery.

I actually enjoyed the film but would still agree that it was disappointing. I feel like there were too many ideas that they did get to give any of them the time they need. The script should have been split into two films. I'm not talk sequel, I mean two unrelated films.
Side point I don't think Harry Styles acting's bad at all.

Have you not seen or heard of the Stafford wives??????? I agree with you on some points I feel like there should of been way more character development and character building and i would like to learn more about the whole entire process of the simulation etc, but it’s not a mess. Just over a year ago, I went to see a rerun of Silence of the Lambs at my local cinema with some of my friends. One had seen it recently so he just ended up playing games on his phone during moments of exposition, but the rest of us had not seen it before so we were watching intently. As it got to the scene where Hannibal was about to be transported from the asylum, the doctors leave his cell and one of them leaves a pen on the bed. The camera zooms in on the pen and only the pen for a solid 5-10 seconds, before turning up to show Hannibal looking directly and keenly at the pen for another 5 seconds. The next set piece has him breaking free from his restraints and killing the people in his new cell before going on the run. One of my friends sitting next to me turned and said, straight faced as ever, “that’s stupid, how did he even get out?”
I felt the same then as I did watching this review.

I think you missed a lot of stuff because a lot of the things you pointed out are explained in the movie, eg the thing about them all having the same holidays, meet-cutes, etc are discussed at Chris Pine’s character’s house, you said the men’s jobs werent explained but Jack explains that they have to wake up and work in the real world to pay for them to be in the victory project, etc
