My 6yr old and 8 yr old sons are both type 1. I thank god every day for these amazing men and their discoveries.
God bless you and your sons! ❤
that is really shitty luck. hopefully the medication is affordable.
@@kevinforget549 it's $2k a month...
I own my life to these doctor's.
I survived being diabetic at 15.
Coming from a diabetic (type 1), I can tell you from multiple times having D.K.A. Diabetic Ketoneacidosis. I can't imagine how it must have felt dying from just..not having insulin at all, how your body would shut down in a matter of a week or so. If you are lucky. Once my blood sugar raised over 1200 and I am lucky to be alive from what I remember before being in a coma was 3 or 4 days of violently awful sickness, that no amount of rest, water intake or insulin could combat. I ended up having to be put in a medical coma for 5 days to try and stop my brain from swelling and the doctors brought my mother into a room and discussed the possibility of me having brain damage for life. I am alive and thankful for every day. If you don't have diabetes, remember to thank God for it... it's a horrible disease that will kill you slowly, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
I was 11yr old in 1978 when I was diagnosed I have seen so much in my life time and Im so great full for all that has been done for us . Thank you and God Bess you all
I was just diagnosed with type 1 less then 4 weeks ago, and hearing about how lucky I am to have all these fancy new treatments, and only be using 4mm needles makes me realize how livable this disease is nowadays.
How are you getting on now; a year on from diagnosis? Well, I hope 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Kudos for the encouraging tone of this video! T1 diabetes patients and their family members can take solace in the fact that research for better treatment is still in full steam.
WHY is there no mention of Nicolae Paulescu?? It's controversial, like it was at the time of the Nobel Prize award, but it's totally unfair not to mention it.
@Romanian citizen sad
Racism that’s why, it’s stupid
🇷🇴
@@DomnulDarius Racism? Irony abounds...
There were many scientists working on extracts from pancreas, but Banting and colleagues came up with the usable, safer drug form.
One of the greatest live saving discovery we should thankful.
My son is type 1 my family is very grateful for insulin hopefully one day soon we will have a cure thanks for the video 👍
Contact Dr Igudia on his RUclips channel for a on diabetes
Pray to God to heal him.
Stem cell therapy is in progress ,gentic engineering and insulin pumps and tablets r in final stages ( Stomach Acid dissolve the insulin as it is protein which is setback for oral insulin)
100 years later and it appears Sernova Corp ( a Canadian company)may have some great things happening with there trial for type 1 diabetes. One person in there trial is now about 22 months insulin free.
an interesting fact: they fought each other over who gets the credit at discovering synthesized insulin.
However, they also fought for their discovery to be as cheap as possible.
Very lucky to have excellent scientists and the technology to keep us alive.
Quite possibly the greatest Canadian invention ever
It's a romanian invention
@alexandrucrisan8167 From what I can find both are claiming to have invented it around the same time. One side says Canada others say Romania and both say between 1890 to 1930 etc. So it's hard to say who did it first. Either way we can as humans can thank both Canada and Romania for having scientists that made insulin. Because no matter who invented it benefits everyone that needs it around the world.
@@YukiPyroFalse. Only the Canadians created a treatment for diabetes that is safe for humans. The Romanian guy failed to purify his substance, meaning that it was too toxic for human consumption.
@@alexandrucrisan8167False. It’s a Canadian invention. Keep coping, though.
It just amazes me thinking about how many diseases and illnesses we have now that were considered deadly to any who had it in centuries past. Hats off to all who do this type of research and those that donate to keep funding or volunteer their bodies to science/health.
Very encouraging and convincing words! Great 👌
This story is incredible. To think that people died of diabetes with only weeks and months to live is just so strange to me because today people manage it pretty well with modern medicine. So unfortunate for those born with the condition into that time.
Excellent video. Very interesting, informative and worthwhile video. Many thanks for the link to the paper.
When doctors told me I'm T1 diabetic they also said it will be for my whole life... I hope it will not with new drugs 🤞
Unless those drugs regrow your beta cells so you can make your own insulin again and stop your immune system from killing them, I'm afraid what the doc told you is true.
Thank you from Algeria 🇩🇿 🙏🏻
Incredible story
Hey mam I am from india, studying in grade 10, I understand the story pf insulin so well mam thank you so much giving such a good explanation story ❤
great video!
Do we have some more information on the high fat diet which was used as a treatment before the discovery of Insulin ? I have celiac disease with Gad65 antibody and as we all know we share the same genetic.
The original diet for celiac disease was it is called the single carbohydrate diet and if I am not mistaken, the keto diet was introduced at the Majo clinique on the 1929 for treating epilepsy.
I'll admit that the development of insulin is important, but if you make it too expensive for the patient people are still going to die.
it's actually an American problem as i heard from vice documentary because i get Humalog pen for 13$ here in morocco it's not that bad
Thank you so much
Words failed me on how to appreciate you for sending your Herbs to me after I place my or order which cured my type 2 Diabetes’s Dr Igudia
Came here after watching “The killers of the flower moon”….
Great scientific achievement.
So cool
Great😊
What is with Nicolae Paulescu?
I will admit that the development of insulin is important, but if you make it too expensive for people to afford people are still going to die.
ironically the people who discovered it fought each other over credit, but they also fought for insulin to be as affordable as possible
Why give it to HYPERINSULINEMIC Type2 Diabetics?
It's a shame this video is sponsored by one of the 3 companies responsible for 90% of the insulin market, making insulin beyond expensive for the average patient.
No really, their name is on the title screen at 0:55
It’s a shame how you’re projecting America’s problems to other countries. Please only speak for yourself, and not for others. Insulin is cheap and affordable everywhere else in the world.
What gave them the idea to inject pancreatic extract into diabetic patients?
because they noticed animals got diabetes when removed the pancreas.
Is there a way to stop your immune system attacking the insulin producing beta-cells? I really hope that one day in the future there will be a cure for Type 1 Diabetes so people can live longer without needing insulin. Can the immune system be weakened to stop the destruction of the insulin producing beta-cells and let the cells that were destroyed to recover and keep your immune system under control and not let it to destroy the cells again.
The video ends at the most interesting moment :-(
What's the reason why western children more often diagnosed early for diabetes. Is it genetics
They patented it for a dollar btw
Nicolae Paulescu???
The thing is, all scientist around the world are no more around, including icu ventilator inventor.
very nice but the end ?? treat type 2 when talking about insulin and then "prevent" type one ?!
They are hoping to "prevent" type 1 through immunotherapies for people who are at risk and have the antibodies present in their system
@@sammym5142 I suppose the direction of thre research on that front is developing the ability to detect the autoimmune antibodies responsible and disrupt that process to keep the beta cells intact, prevent the body from killing them.
THANK GOD FOR CANADA
You should thank Romania mate…Canada just copy/paste…do your research
Thanks you Dr Igudia on RUclips for all you do in my life and my family. I went for a test today after taking the medication i ordered from Dr Igudia and I tested diabetes negative. Thanks doctor I will keep letting the world know about your good work sir.
Great 😀😀😀 natura naturans

Words aren’t enough for me to show how I grateful I am for helping me to get rid of my Type 2 diabetic Dr Igudia
Pain killer are at lack on all hospitals globally, bcos marijuana planting stop due to pandemic. Now, that the focus point here now till 2030.
Maybe the councilors at Toronto's city hall, should rename Dundas Square, Banting and Best Square, not some philosophical phrase from Ghana, other worthy Canadians through their contributions to our society, Lincoln Alexander, Oscar Peterson.
ha ha ha , no Paulescu omg.....
This account is actually incorrect. Banting and Best actually stole this idea from my great grandfather who was a roommate and student of these two individuals in med school. My great grandfather actually finger printed his roommate because he suspected that someone was stealing his medical notebook.
Unfortunately, this kind of thing happened all the time in days past, when professors stole the intellectual property of their students.
Death was there fate and they were used as experiments
Keto doesn't have to be a "harsh diet" 🙈 I'm doing keto 6 days a week
Back then, they were combining carbohydrate restrictions and overall calorie restriction. That's what made the pre-1920s diabetic diets so harsh. It was really just to extend or prolong life in a limited way as they assumed those people would eventually die anyway.
Now we have a much better understanding of how each of the 3 macronutrients impacts blood sugar. You won't be able to completely avoid needing to inject insulin on keto if you're a type 1 diabetic, but it may help you stabilize your blood sugar and enable you to require considerably less insulin while avoiding a good number of the more dangerous highs and lows.
Yea, but you also have a working pancreas. Type1 on this diet only survived a little bit longer, as long as they had some residual beta cells. 1-2 extra years maybe until every beta cell dies. With high carb, the blood sugar would go up to 5-10 times the normal, which would dehydrate and give you a stroke or dka faster. Some people also died much faster even on starvation diet, its all depending how strong their autoimmune reaction was.
they sold the patent for 1 dollar i heard... 1 dollar keeps billions and more at bay THANK U
No. That is all a lie. A Romanian, A ROMANIAN.
Depends on who you ask.
fun fact the patent was sold for 1$
But the ethical side was to disclose the fact of bovine origin of the medicine (insulin/extract from Langerhans ielts) to the patients who were used to abstain from beef!
So this is the guy Biden talked to?
Nicolae Constantin Paulescu (Romanian pronunciation: [nikoˈla.e pa.uˈlesku]; 30 October 1869 (O.S.) - 17 July 1931) was a Romanian physiologist, professor of medicine, and politician, most famous for his work on diabetes, including patenting pancreine (a pancreatic extract containing insulin). The "pancreine" was an extract of bovine pancreas in salted water, after which some impurites were removed with hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide.
It wasn't a safe enough drug preparation, just like the crude insulin preparations made by scientists before him.
You’re so obsessed with a guy that failed to purify and failed to create a safe, non-toxic form of the substance for human consumption.
