I just love this Ted Lewis version of Egyptian Ella. So much fun and good music too. Isn't it great we live in an age where all this great music is at our fingertips. I really despise most modern music, but who has to listen to the radio anymore?

"Egyptian Ella" and "I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby" were recorded March 5, 1931 with an all-star jazz band: Ted Lewis (cl, as, dir, vcl on “Egyptian Ella”), Benny Goodman (cl), Francis “Muggsy” Spanier (c), George Brunies (tb), Thomas "Fats" Waller (p, vcl on “I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby”), Tony Gerardi (g), Harry Barth (b), John Lucas (d), Sam Shapiro, Sol Klein (vln on “Egyptian Ella”). Great work by Goodman (showing off his klezmer roots on "Egyptian Ella" and playing more straightforward jazz on "I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby"), Spanier and especially Waller's piano and vocal on "I'm Crazy 'Bout My Baby" (his first record as a singer). Thanks once again to Prozoot for making great old music available in a superb-sounding transfer!

Great music! It's too bad more people don't give these tunes a chance. They might actually enjoy what they hear.

One of the greatest entertainers ever; nobody since has made “everybody happy” quite like Ted Lewis did for decades.

This is one of my favorite uploads by you. It is a good example of one of the few times a Ted Lewis vocal did not ruin the underlying song!

Never understood the jazz fascists who claim to love the popular music of the twenties and then turn around and bash Ted Lewis so relentlessly when he was so typical of the period.
