How To Make a Touch Sensor Circuit (Using Only Transistor)

  • Touch Sensor Circuit
    In this tutorial I teach you how to make a simple touch sensor LED switch. This electronic switch I make basically uses your finger as a resister to complete the circuit and light up the LED. You can also replace the LED for a buzzer or any other output component if you wish.

    Components you need:
    LED (any colour)
    Transistor (BC547)
    1K Resistor
    Connecting wire
    9V Battery

      ​@@user-du2yc5qd6g this is kind of transistor switch... basically when he touches the wires his body acts as a resistor and current flows through his body to transistors base....that triggers the transistor and led glows...

    great video! question: i made two on the same breadboard but the first led is dimmer than the other, do i lower resistance on the one going to the dimmer led?

      It simply makes use of the transistor's characteristics.
      If you apply a very small voltage to its base, it will allow current to flow from it's collector to it's emitter. And he when he touches the wires his body acts as a conductor which conducts a very small current to the base, yet it's enough to make the transitor conduct current (from the battery) to the LED.

      Use PNP transistor instead of NPN
      Explanation:
      This works because your finger conducts electricity and completes the circuit. When the circuit is complete, base current is appreciable and so the collector conducts, turning on LED.
      If you want the reverse behavior, i.e. the LED should turn off when you place finger, you need to disconnect an already conducting transistor. When base current increases, collector current decreases in case of PNP transistor.

      No, you can connect them directly.
      Breadboard only make things easier but it's not necessary.

    How much current flows through your finger? Can you feel it?

      you cant really feel the electricity flowing through you. You can lick the output of the battery and you’ll be completely fine.
