  • hi wolf pack! In today's video I wanted to share my favorite way to filet and prepare my fresh caught fish for the freezer. This is my go-to method and the easiest way I have found to do this. It keeps your fish fresh, no freezer burn and saves a ton of space. This will work for many different types of fish to preserve them for future use. Hope y'all enjoyed. Comment below how you like to freeze or store your fish!

Great video Heidi! So glad to see you doing videos like this! Hopefully people, especially younger people can learn something, in particular that all food doesn’t come from a grocery store, or McDonald’s or Chick fillet. Also, good technique on the ziplock bagging! Vacuum sealers are great, but if you are going to be going back and eating your catch fairly soon, ( within a few months) it really isn’t necessary, and is less expensive! Keep up the great work! God Bless!

Wrapping in paper is a great idea to keep them from sticking together. Prevents the plastic from getting poked by anything too.

Hello Heidi, family and friends, I hope you are all well. The leg of lamb looked delicious. How many were you cooking for? You could not possibly have eaten all of that meat and vegetables and still stay so slim. Cooking out in the country side is frowned upon here as idiots do not put their fires out properly and that has caused many moor and forest fires. It was nice to see you put your fire out properly, well done. Take care and stay safe everyone. Tim W, England.

My Dad would go to Surf City catch a mess of fish and come home and put them in plastic bags and fill with water and salt. He froze them heads, guts and all. He would thaw, clean and cook as needed. I don't do this but that was his way back in the 60's.

I wrap the individual fillets in Saran Wrap (plastic wrap). Then put them into a zip lock with others. You can then pull out as many as you want to unfreeze them in warm water. Otherwise, frozen fillets remain stuck to each other.

When you fold out the air in your ziplock, pull up quickly while simultaneously zipping and it will very scientifically evacuate air from the bag via physics. Learned this from a fella that went to the science college.

What I do when putting either meat or vegetables etc. In freezer bags to store is.
I normally write with a permanent marker on the freezer bag what it is for contents and date. Add contents to the freezer bag, zip lock it 90% of the way closed, then I put a straw in the bag, close the bag as much as possible then suck on the straw to vacuum pack the bag and seal the rest of the bag as I’m pulling out the straw.
Just folding the bag does not get enough air out, it will just freezer burn right away.
