No 4wd or Centre Diff Lock | Electric Controlled Selection | 200 Series | How To

- In this video we look into why my 200 series Land Cruiser has lost the ability to select 4wd Lo and centre diff lock. Newer cars now rely on electronic systems to activate the basic Lo range and diff lock mechanisms.... until they die. Let's have a look at how they work and what can go wrong and how to fix it.

Tons of thanks for making such an informative video.
In fact, I'm struggling with this issue now a days.
@@Muzammil787 all good mate, glad to help out 🍻
Thanks good video. The Computer does a pre check on the actuators and if the contact fails it flashes the lights which as you know is the first indicator to use them more. A small current is put through at the system pre check can burn those plates if never used which is what you were showing. A handy video for many thanks again.
Absolutely, cheers for the comments 🍻🍻 I do miss the old lever through the floor though.... ha ha
I was actually looking for a video like this today mate and you have delivered! Legend! Mine is doing the same so I’m guessing this will be me tomorrow 😂
ha ha, no drama's.... just use caution when removing those covers not to drop the gears out :) good luck
After watching your video I nailed it, knowing what position the push rods need to be in (disengaged) and the alignment of the contacts the main body the critical bit. Hint for anyone trying it, look for the pit mark to find it, note: they are both different, CDL is about 11oclock and HILO is about 10oclock just look for the marks on the contacts
Thats awesome, great stuff mate 🍻🍻
Very good video thanks very much I have read a few problems but looks like you have solved them
Thanks heaps
No dramas mate, glad to help 🍻🍻
Good to see another vid mate👌🏻 glad you were able to fix the issue without any major issue😁
ha ha, has been a while hasn't it.... gonna be doing the suspension upgrade soon too :)
Thanks heaps for that info mate and awesome advice for us newer cruiser owners. Cheers
All good mate, safe travels :)
Awesome vid mate, very good.
Cheers mate 🍻🍻
Thanks for your video mate 👍
No dramas mate, hope it helps 🍻🍻
Glad to see you guys back on RUclips. Have you been traveling again?
Cheers mate, nah been too busy adulting with work and kids commitments now :(
Is it the same on 2017 prado 150? Having similar issue, diff lock is just flashing, button doesnt seem to be doing a whole lot, and the l4 is not showing up as being engaged on the dash. So im not sure whether the diff lock is locked or trying to lock? If that makes sense. Great video thanks
@thevideo7470 not 100% sure but I know the hilux runs the same/similar system so I figure the prado platform would be very similar..... if you are handy and confident you can always just pull the covers off and have a look... otherwise toyota would be your best bet 😉
Water... so the breather tubes come off or you went above wading depth
i have definitely been above wading depth, but the tube was in tact and secure... either way it just shows what can happen with new electronically controlled selectors as apposed to the old school lever through the floor :)
Hey, Hope your doing great, I change the actuators for new ones, but diff lock still flashing and it doesn’t work, any correcto form to put the gears on?
If it still isn't engaging properly it may be more than the actuators that are the problem. It could also be that the contacts in the actuators are in the correct position....
Where did you buy the actuator, could you help me with the link? got the same problem
Btw this part function for a Diesel version 2009 LC200?
@@marciogallegos7049 it was a genuine Toyota part... I can't guarantee that it will fit the earlier LC200 (pre facelift)... google partsouq.com and they have a great part number reference system.... good luck 🍻🍻
Did you scan the 200 before figuring out what was wrong. I have the same lights but its throwing a speed sensor fault despite replacing the sensor
@@ianmcdonald4780 nah i didn't scan it beforehand... I just knew it was the 4wd engage system as it was not engaging 4LO or centre diff lock. What sort of speed sensor is it??
@@DucruznOZ its the vehicle speed sensor on an 08. Got a VSC light, 4lo light and another light I cant remember
@@ianmcdonald4780 oh bugger, could even be in the harness maybe 🤷♂️ might have to take it to a sparky or Toyota directly....
common problem of burned contacts in Lo/Diff actuator. Usually caused by non use. If you only use high 4 then it is good to engage Lo and Lock once a month.
100% agree... that's one thing I miss about a lever through the floor, ha ha
Very interesting
Dam electrics with new cars 🤬
Not using 4low enough then. Moisture gets in and corrodes the point. That or you have lost the breather tube.
Also can be sign the batteries are dieing
well we definitely use 4 lo and diff lock more than the average joe, say it was just the seals or the breather tube that caused the water ingress and seizing of the motors :)
You can remove the actuator you just need to be careful ive done it before. Then clean the contact points. Its been 2years since and no issues.
U mean the rods?? I did remove the actuators, both of them....
You can buy the whole transfer case for $2300
Really?? Is that AUD$$
Why do they say to buy a transfer case? Do they wear out? Generally its the contacts the the issue. Unless water damaged the TF Case and Actuator is $3100 new
well im having the issue it just flashes and itz not engaging......im dissapointed by Toyota.....4x4 Landcruiser shiuld not have these issuez. I want to have the old school level back. Super reliable feature it was.
Totally agree, miss the old lever through the floor. I guess they are just trying to move forward with technology, unfortunately not as reliable :(
