Tip from a faire worker myself- keep it 100% cotton or Linen. No polyester blends. This will help keep you from getting overheated or any kind of heatstroke. Cotton/Linen breathes better and will not heat up from the sun so you'll stay cool. Also stay covered head to toe. It keeps the direct sun off your skin which also helps with overheating and sun damage. Hope this helps! We look forward to seeing you again!
Another Faire worker here! I definitely recommend comfortable footwear. If you are a paying customer, you have the freedom to wear whatever you need to be comfy and safe. BUT there are vendors at the faire who make amazing footwear, including the option to order custom shoes made to your measurements.
If budget is an issue, start with BASIC pants or skirt and top. Then you can add pieces every time you go, so that you only spend tons of money if you go back for tons of fun. The costume rentals are very nice as well.
It warms my heart that you had a wonderful time in Willington! If you do come back this year and aren’t with any children, make a stop at the 21 and over. We have stage shows aimed for adults only. Plus the Ladies of the Mermaid Tavern can pass on some good naughty gossip as well. 😉
Thank You for this wonderful and glowing review of the Northern California Renaissance Faire, and especially the participants and stage performers of our little town of Willingtown! It is incredibly heartwarming to know that the hard work and effort made to provide a unique show is seen and appreciated! Your family, You and all our patrons is why we do this!! Thank You!!
Hi! I'm one of the reenactors at NorCal Faire, in the Guild of St Swithin, the Mongers. We are middle class villagers walking the town, selling things like raw meats, soaps, vegetables, chamber pots, eggs, dung, etc, as there would have been in a normal Market Faire in the late 1500s. I just wanted to thank you so much for this wonderful, kind review! You also did such an amazing job of capturing the essence of our Faire. It is true that part of the magic of casa is that the camping out together for 6-9 weekends a year we all get to know each other very well. This gives us as actors so much more to work with improving in character. We also, as do other faires, take classes and practice and teach in the weeks before we open. But still, my friends from faire are all the closest in my life year round. And once you know someone very well you get those unspoken shorthands and inside jokes, and then we do it in Elizabethan! It's truly the most magical community ever. And I am sooooo touched and honored to know that you came to your first Faire and really felt that spirit we are working to create. This review really touched my heart. I feel seen, even though I wasn't there the weekend you visited, I feel seen as a part of my family/cast/community, and that magic is why I keep having to come back each year. Your joy and energy made my day. Hope to see you at Faire in the coming weeks. Come talk to the Mongers! Look for the raw meat! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I've been working the Norcal Ren Faire for almost 20 years. You should definitely come back and have more fun with us! I do want to point out that our Faire is only 11 acres, not 100. Thank you for the amazing review!
Thank you for your most gracious and enthusiastic review of our faire. I am exceedingly pleased that you had such a good time!! I'm also impressed that you had down some of the history of the Faire. Please do come back again. As for tips to increase your enjoyment of the faire, well, you already did the biggest one, Engagement with the townsfolk of Willingtown! Costuming/clothing, stick with natural fabrics (100% linen/cotton/wool) they breath better and are cooler than synthetics. (yes, even the wool is cooler than polyester). Simple loose pants or a long skirt and peasanty shirt make a good start. Wear COMFORTABLE shoes!!! Drink LOTS of WATER!!! Even when it is not very hot, spending all day in the outdoors can leave you a bit dry. Again, Thank you for your delightful (and informative!) review!!! I look forward to spotting you on your next visit!!!
We've been going since Black Pointe and my kids who are now off in college were raised going to Faire every year. We've been the several around the nation, but NorCal will always be our favorite. If you want to enjoy the best shows, I personally love the fools stage (especially the Washer Women, but I sure miss Moonie!). Tea with her Majesty should be tried once, and a massage at the massage booth is a great way to get refreshed halfway through a tiring day. We also love to bring little gifts and trinkets that we give to our friends at the faire as a way to increase the magic of interacting with other people. God Save the Queen!
Nice review. A day at the Faire is always fun. I've been going since the 70s when it was at Black Point. My room mate was a character at the "Soak A Bloke" booth...he had some pretty interesting tales of the after hours parties.
Our family has been attending for about a decade and we love the experience so much! Although our kids are grown they still enjoy the faire today as young adults. Thank you for your review! I think our Northern CA Faire is special indeed!
Gurl, you got it figured out. I'm working my first year and I'm so glad you got such great tea with the Queen. I ain't even met her yet. I'm just happy to be a cog in a weird, dirty, genuine machine. The people make the festival and you've proven worthy to be our people.
If you come back and visit feel free to come by henna! Many of our artists have been around since the beginning or grew up in the community. We’d love to do some art for you.
Yet another Faire worker/reenactor here. Until you know you want to commit to the faire as a paytron (non-worker who dresses up and pays to get in) or a worker/actor, I would recommend renting a costume at Bellrose costume rentals. You can go a couple of different times and get a variety of costumes to see what fits your personality. Cotton is a must. Keep the amount of leather to a minimum, unless for safety reasons. Watch the bodice. You do not want to show too much and risk a wardrobe malfunction. (And be sure to hit the Fencing booth if you didn't this time. Where else can you have funning poking people with metal sticks. And if you are a fencer, they can use you as a worker.) Huzzah and well met. Master Shishkaberry from Dogberry's School of Fencing.
What are your tips for a great Ren Faire experience? I'm looking at costumes for my next visit amzn.to/3ZxpEBs

I’m so glad you had an amazing experience! Another Faire worker from Danse Macabre 💀 Also, you can rent costumes at faire 😊

I think Black Pointe was the best location, but Casa de Fruta is a good location too.

Wow, you probably have some great stories, too! Thanks for watching 💛

So glad you introduced the whole family to Ren Faires!

The tea was hot 😂 hope you can catch up with the Queen soon
You did such a good job of explaining the real history of faire, as well as explain the purpose, I would definitely give you an A+
💙🍖⚔️🌞
Aww thank you!
Thank you for such a kind review of our faire! I'm so happy you had such a wonderful time! Hope you get to come back and play with us again soon!
I was there this season. It was a fun time.
If you come back and visit feel free to come by henna! Many of our artists have been around since the beginning or grew up in the community. We’d love to do some art for you.
The designs at the henna booth were GORGEOUS! Definitely going back for one.
You can now add time traveler to your résumé 😉
