FINALLY SOMETHING THAT A BIG SAAS COMPANY ON SHOPIFY FAILS TO DO FOR YOU AUTOMATICALLY YOU JUST SHOWED HOW TO DO IT YOURSELF MANUALLY. EASILY. THANK YOU!
Holy moly, I have been stuck with this issue forever, contact shopify support, google support, for many many times, They either don't know what I am talking about, or telling me that I do need to do all kind of things that I don't think would work. or they keep throwing me back and forth and nothing is fixed, This is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you.
I love you! I have been dealing with this for weeks. Email back and forth with google and shopify with no success. This video was super helpful! Thank you!!
Seriously thank you. It took me forever to follow along because I didn't realize I needed to revert back to the "classic version" of google merchant center. When I was using the new version I absolutely could NOT find the "feed" and "feed rules".. THANK YOU. I was about to go crazy. Thank you very much for such an informative video! God bless!
Yes, the new version of Google Merchant Center does not support this feature yet. Best to revert back to the older version for now. Great to know it helps!
I followed your instructions and submitted the new feed rules. So far no change in my merchant center unless it takes a long time to see the effects? Pretty frustrating. :-)
Thank you very much for posting this video with a simple guide, it has helped with an issue I was not able to fix for a couple weeks and now I know exactly how to do this for my Shopify clients. I appreciate your video and look forward to learning more from you.
I’ve been dealing with the GTIN issue for weeks and this has finally eased my mind a bit. I just went through the changes and am crossing my fingers that it fixes the issue
You ARE AMAZING!! you videos are so helpful and easy to follow. The way that you explain everything for even someone that has no computer experience is GREAT. Thank you for making these videos. So many great resources all around us!!
Clearly explained. Does it also work with Woo Commerce? I applied the instructions for feed rules, but it doesn't have the Test Changes option. Should I just apply and see what happens? Thanks Clarice!
This is such a helpful video. Thanks Clarice! you have no idea how many videos i watched to get this information. can i ask... how would i change the GTIN identifiers for only certain products? i have 155 listed products and 68 of then have GTIN missing values for some reason...thanks!
I was losing sleep over trying to figure this problem out and in 10 short minutes you have shown me exactly what I needed to do!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Instant thumbs up and subscribe! Just a quick question - can the same method be applied to other missing identifiers? I sell pet accessories and Google are asking for things such as gender and age group which obviously do not apply to my products. I would be so grateful for your advice!
Glad it came in handy:) if you put your store into the right product category, those attributes you mentioned aren’t compulsory. You can watch this other video on how to correctly categorise your products : ruclips.net/video/3mfE0cJ-qLk/видео.html :)
Hi Clarice! Happy to have found your channel. I've been having this issue. However, when I go to my Feed Rules, the page is empty so I didn't see the option "true" on the right side. How do I fix this? Thanks!
Hi @esmennewyork4021 @HoneysAstro If you want to transform your Feed Values, you have to click on the "+" button to add individual attributes to show up. In this case, click on "+" and look for identifier_exists", then you are able to proceed in setting the values. Note: This fix is only for products that are handmade or manufactured by yourself - that means you did not get any barcodes for them. If you are getting products from manufacturers who have procured barcodes or you are doing dropshipping, this fix will NOT resolve the issue.
Wow this was amazingly helpful!! Thank you for being so thorough and straightforward! How long would you say it takes for google to apply the change? Do you know if there is a delay while google updates the approved products?
Thank you! Updates to attributes usually take less than an hour and from experience, you'll be able to get approval within a day. In terms of getting impressions for the products, it might take a few days to see the impact.
@@ClariceLin So I've watched this video a bunch of times and I did exactly what you said and its been a couple weeks now. The products say "Incorrect value (Identifier exists) in (shopping_ads)" is this the same issue or something else now? I'm based out of Canada. Just wondering if I should continue to wait.
@@lisaProude this process only works for products that have NO official known barcodes. i.e. if you create your own products or sell from manufacturers who have not bought barcodes for their products. If you are selling products from manufacturers who have bought barcodes for those products, then you need to look them up and update them into your store. There is no other way around it.
@@ClariceLin oh that makes sense! Wow thank you so very much for responding so quickly! I’m really enjoying and valuing your videos and look forward to working through more of your resources! Thank you for being so helpful!!
this looks extremely promising. is there an updated version of the procedure? it seems gmc must have changed its layout since you made this. I don't find the word Feeds anywhere, even when I do a search on the page.
On the new Merchant Center, go to the top right hand corner of the screen and click on the wheel button. Select "Data Sources", once the page loads, click on your the name of your data feed. On the data feed back, click on attribute rules. The rest of the steps are similar.
hi Lin... is there a way to buy past this if I'm dropshipping from aliexpress ? aliexpress items don't have a GTIN or ASIN. and merchant is asking for one
If there are no publicly known barcodes for the products you are selling, this will not affect the performance. If such barcodes exist but you are not aware of it, you'll get a "Limited By Performance due to missing GTIN" error.
Wow Clarice Lin, it seems like this worked. At leats, at Google Merchants everything shows green. Now waiting for the Shopify 'Google app' to accept these changes. Hope I'm not missing something...still saying "you need a gtin or mpn". But it's been less than 48 since I signed up for Google Shopping in Shopify.
Awesome! If you manufacture your own products, this should fix your issue. Typically you need to wait for like 5-7 business days for Google to review and approve the product s. Fingers crossed!
I just connected to this feature and it looks like they have changed the menu. I did have to make the change to each product manually and one by one. There is no " feed" menu. Go to each product and "edit product" and scroll down and make the change. (notice: If there are still other problems, the will be a popup on top of the page.)
Hi, thank you so much for this video. When I get to edit source, the "Set To, Extract, and Latest" boxes are not on my screen. Is there a specific reason why this is? TIA
Click on Add Source on the left hand side (on the laptop) under Data Sources - where to take the data from. It should show up. And also check to see if your browser is blocking anything. i.e. if you are using an ad blocker etc. Also, try the same process from a different browser.
big big thank u for efficiently giving proper guidance. Appreciating your efforts. I wish this comment of mine as well as others will encourage u to carry on this work.
I did everything as you said it worked for 1 day and its still giving error s No ( GTIN, UPC, EAN, JAN or ISBN) from google merchant center, I have custom made products.
Hi there, i applied the feed rule as instructed, i know things take around a week judging by the comments on this video for things to begin to work out. But for the last two days since i added the feed rule, 17 of my 60 products are dissaproved or invalid due to the identifier exists as no rule. Google seems to think that the sunglasses i sell MUST have a gtin even though they are just generic products?
Most manufacturers have bought barcodes for their products especially if they are selling to distributors and retailers. If your products come directly from them, most likely they DO have barcodes (GTIN) based on the brand, product name and description. Google is very confident the barcodes exist for those products. By using this fix for those products, you are considered to have submitted incorrect details and thus those products are disapproved by Google.
Thank you for such a great video. I import hand crafts from Mexico and my producers do not use GTIN. I followed video and hope the process will correct my identifier problem. In the future, I a product does have a GTIN, how do I change a single product to "True" while keeping the whole feed set to "False". Can you make a video on setting individual products? Thank you for videos!
Thanks for the video Clarice. I followed it step by step. Unfortunately it did not correct the "missing identifier " error. Not sure what else I can do.
Hi Simran, The "missing identifier" solution only works if your products do not have any identifier in the first place. For example, if you make your own products or your products are custom-made. If you get your products from manufacturers, you have to get the barcodes from them to submit to Google. There is no other way around it.
Thank you so much for your video. This worked on page one of my products on Shopify. However, on page two of my Shopify products page, the issue is still there. Any suggestions? Please and thank you!

Hello. Can you please update this video? Google Merchant Center has changed and there does not appear to be any "Feed Rules".

On the new Merchant Center, go to the top right hand corner of the screen and click on the wheel button. Select "Data Sources", once the page loads, click on your the name of your data feed. On the data feed back, click on attribute rules. The rest of the steps are pretty similar.
I did this and most of my products when disapproved b/c they had globally recognized gtins... this seems to only be good for custom products.
