Thank you for presenting these videos on the 3018 cnc. I can't wait to see how far you can take it!!
That did do better than I expected. You've inspired me to get mine sorted, I was about ready to order an aluminium Z axis and spindle holder from AliExpress but remembered that I had an improved version of the plastic spindle holder downloaded for printing. I'm printing it now and I'll see how it goes, I may still order the metal parts anyway. Looking forward to the laser as I didn't get one with mine.
I don't know how you do it....I was trying 3d cnc with this same machine. Was hoping to find a video about it....then magically one appeared that you made....which is perfect since I watch all your videos. Thank you again for great education videos.
MR.Webb thank for this video, I'm planning to get one of this small cnc to star learn the trade..thank you for all the input.
Glad to help
Today I found your channel and I must say its a delight to watch, Bravo! Also you should win the Academy award for "Best DIY Backdrop" 2021 !
Thank you! 😊
Thanks Roger, Have a nice day!
Thank you too
Your music choice has just hooked me to your channel.
I have this machine in three different sizes. I use them for CNC and laser engraving. They do highly detailed laser engraving. I love these machines. However they are painfully slow if you want good quality projects.
Great video and advise, looking forward for the laser videos, please engrave painted acrylic for led shinetrough letters.
Coming soon!
I have one of these and have only used the laser so far. Really interested to see your experiments with the laser and end stops.
it's nice to see the machine actually making something as opposed to just moving in straight lines under control.
Ok, so it needs a complicated program (at a low cost) to do the myriad of XYZ micro moves to achieve the profile, but heck it can do it.
I agree that the machine build is in itself the weak point due to cost cutting in the design especially in the unsupported rails etc ,and a bit, or maybe a lot of rework in that department would make it more rigid.....then you get the frame that needs beefing up too and after that a bigger motor..........a new machine emerges like the Phoenix from the ashes.....but you are still running with GRBL........not my cup of tea....... going to an operating system that can handle Mach3 is getting a pocket battleship in all it's glory but at a cost.
Looking forward to the laser engraving vid when it comes.
First off I have to say that I've been watching your video's for years, I just love watching the man with a solid plan. I have just ordered 1 of the above machines as I know if its on your channel it's worth getting and I just cannot wait for it to arrive. There is one thing I would like to ask of you though if it's ok ? Is there any chance you could do a video of your wood recommendations. I:E were you get your woods from for milling what woods you prefer or like and so on. Or if you have already done a video on this could send me the link Thanks in Advance and keep on doing what you are good at making us your cool videos. P:s I have just signed up as 1 of you patrons now.
Dear Roger!
I would like to ask that, after the rough carving (change bit) how can I set the exact zero point?
Which bit are you using for roughing? Is it okay for 1/8 inch 2 flute endmill .I am planning to do the same engraving.
The 1/8th inch will be ok.
@@rogerwebb9600 Thankyou
Hi Roger. I noticed that you have the 3018 clamped to the desk. How critical (in general) is the mounting of a CNC to the base? I can imagine a light machine like this skipping across a surface, but how much does that affect the final quality?
Hi, the 3018 is running a 300 watt spindle so it needs clamping otherwise it would vibrate off the bench.
@@rogerwebb9600 I have ordered a 3018, and looking at where and how to put it. I have a rack to place it in, which has access on both sides and can be made noise-proof etc. Sounds like I will need to bolt it down to a shelf.
Thanks
Could you remove the rods and use the upper and lower beams with V wheels to travel on. I think that would solve the vibration/flex issue. ???
It's too small for that.
@@rogerwebb9600 ok...Am watching your video now on the new build your doing. Like that new offline controller. Plan to join your patron. Really good info. Thanks
Partner just got me this as a gift, definitely following this channel.
Welcome aboard!
Thank you, quick question though. Have you tried the 3018 (stock) with polymers? Just wondering how it would fair.
Plan is to learn on the 3018, then build from scratch a larger more powerful version in my workshed.
Eventually I'd like something that could do wood, polymers, aluminium.
Have a look at my channel at the CNC MIDI router build
Will do, cheers.
Can I carb the stars union of the American flag with this cnc 3018. ?? Thank you in advance.
Hi Roger,
That was very good to see and that you are still impressed with the 3018. You mentioned the 300w spindle and other parts you have ordered, do you have a parts list of the components you are upgrading/ adding to your 3018?
Hi Mark, I will be posting all info up on Patron when I receive them and check them out.
I'm doomed....DOOMED......and it's all Roger's fault.........watching all these 3018's having fun with the lockdown has made me so envious I just had to go on EBAY and.....waddaya know, I just bought a 3018 basic model for A$228, promised arrival on 18 July....thank you Roger, the kid's inheritance is looking slim now and I'll have to gen up on GRBL........sigh, another learning curve, next will come a 2500mw laser head module to burn some images etc, may as well go for broke.
lolololololololo
Nice one Ian ;-))
@@rogerwebb9600 Hee Hee......yes , I have a diabolical plan.....now I'm planning on upgrading it even before it's out of the factory.........I'm going to change the upright rails from 2020 to 2040 to give it more rigidity and add 10mm SBR linear rails onto the X axis 2020 cross rails.....the Z axis will need a makeover too......that will cater for the 500 watt spindle that will soon arrive too.
The Y axis rails are another upgrade to 10mm SBR but that would need 2 2020 cross members to mount them on.
That will satisfy my yen for a while to make things as opposed to a complete from the ground up build.
Finally, sometime down the track, I want to go to 1204 ball screws if possible, I don't know yet.....maybe overkill and unnecessary.....but for the present I'll add 2 ball thrust washers on each stepper motor to prevent end thrust forces wearing the steppers out.
Computers confuse me so should I get one of these????
Hey wait, that's an Australian flag, hello neighbour. :D
What name and model this machine ?from where can we bought?
Hi, it is a 3018 CNC router/laser from eBay Australia $350
Hi Roger, back again still haven't used my machine, I don't know what does what, where can I find what the keyboard shortcuts are, I now have both artcam pro 8.1 but when I set model size I don't get the box for z height for a start so I'm thinking the program is corrupt and then I downloaded Artcam premium 2018 and the interface is completely different, is there somewhere I can get instructions from ?, my main purpose for now is engraving and circuit boards, not worried about carving (yet) until I know the program,
Hi, it sounds to me that you have a cracked copy of ArtCAM, as you cannot download a genuine soft where copy of ArtCAM anymore. ArtCAM is now Carveco, Maker and Maker +.

Hello!
Can you provide an exact link to this machine?
I’ve found a lot like this, but I don’t want to make the wrong choice.
eBay Australia
how long did it take to complete the carving?
About 35 minuets
in candle i can only set my machine to 1000 RPM, is this normal??????? should be alot faster, no?
Yes this is normal
What is the maximum spindle speed of that machine?
7000 RPM
Any idea what to do so that Candle will show the visualization as it's carving? Mine doesn't and I'd like it to. I couldn't find what to change in the settings
Yes, top R/H corner of the view screen, press 1 of them;-))
@@rogerwebb9600 wish that did it. :)
