Sonic Rush is a portable electronic platform game developed by Sonic Team and Dimps exclusively for Nintendo DS as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was released on November 15, 2005 in North America and the PAL region on November 18 of the same year. It is a 2D platform game, however the Sprite and Blaze sprites are rendered in 3D, creating a 2.5D effect. The battles against the bosses, as well as the special phases, are completely 3D. The plot of the game interweaves the adventures of a new character, Blaze the Cat, with the protagonist of the series, Sonic the Hedgehog. They respectively battle against Doctor Eggman and the Eggman Nega doppelgänger at certain points throughout the game.
The game was announced with the tentative title of Sonic DS at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and under Sonic Rush at E3 2005. The 2.5D format of the game was based on the Sonic Team's idea of ​​combining 2D elements and 3D series games. After the release, Sonic Rush was well received by critics, with accolades stemming from the music and the resemblance to the series' older games. A sequel titled, Sonic Rush Adventure, was created and released in 2007.
Plot
Blaze the Cat (which is the size of the sun) falls somehow into the world of Sonic. In their world there were seven Emeralds of the Sun similar to the Emerald of Chaos, however, they were stolen by Doctor Eggman. It, therefore, imposes the goal of recovering them; then Sonic finds her. While Sonic is looking for the Chaos Emeralds, Blaze is looking for the Emeralds of the Sun. [7] Miles "Tails" Prower, however, discovers that the worlds of Blaze and Sonic are beginning to unite in some way. [2] Sonic begins to suspect Blaze and, along with Tails, goes to look for it. They find her next to Cream the Rabbit. Sonic questions Blaze about his nature, but she refuses to give any information and leaves with Cream. Sonic follows her, and finds her at the base of Eggman Nega, where it is revealed that Eggman and Eggman Nega are working together to collect both emeralds. Blaze declares that she is the only one who can save her worlds, so Sonic should not help her. When he refuses, they begin to fight. However, Sonic wins the fight, and Blaze realizes the misconception in his attitudes. Eggman kidnaps Cream, and Blaze goes after him, while Sonic follows Eggman Nega. Sonic collects the last of the seven Chaos Emeralds, and finds Blaze, who could not protect the Emeralds from the Sun. Sonic and his friends help Blaze to realize the meaning of friendship, and she turns into Burning Blaze while Sonic turns into Super Sonic. They fight against Eggman and Eggman Nega until they defeat them. The two worlds are restored, forcing Blaze back to his own world. As she flies, she realizes she really understands her powers. However, on Sonic's planet, Cream is crying because Blaze is gone, but Sonic tells her that Blaze promised to come back one day.
