I think Avatar the Last Airbender did a good job of making subtle changes to the characters throughout the series. the characters don’t look the same at the start in comparison to the last season. Zuko’s hair, Aang’s muscular definition, not to mention all the outfit changes throughout the show, I think this concept was done really well in this show while still keeping the main characters easily recognizable.
Reagan Danielle although I do agree with you on those details. Those changes were never really drastic enough to effect the merchandising. Not to mention the entire series of avatar took place over the course of like half a year so the characters weren’t expecting to change that much outside of a few modifications here and there. Steven Universe supposedly takes place over the course of at least 2-4 years (a writer said Steven was around 10 or 11 when the series started) so that’s why people are complaining over this compared to avatar. And who said Steven wasn’t having similar (yet subtle) changes? Kid was a butterball when the series started but over the course of the show he thinned out. Granted, it could be a designing mistake I highly doubt it.
Another good example of subtle aging up, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. From the start of the anime to the last few episodes, the characters all aged up, but only a tiny bit at a time across the series. It feels very natural and not suuuuper noticeable. It's very nicely done.
Reagan Danielle I totally agree and honestly I think in Steven U they could do whatever they want to Steven as long as he has the star shirt and the hair and no facial hair without having to alter the marketing. I mean who cares if in the thumbnail he looks a little short?
I think that Steven IS getting physically older, but very slowly. We've SEEN him growing facial hair, and (although it took a couple of season rewatches) I noticed that Steven is now taller than Peridot, who (the first time we saw her without her cyborg limbs) was as tall as him for at least the remainder of season 2. It might just be me, but I think that Steven's new maturity is causing his body to mature, too.
We'll see an older Steven when we get a sequel series in 10 years ;) I also wish we could see a slightly aged up version of Steven at some point, but that's definitely a tough egg to crack from a marketing and merchandising standpoint.

If the crystal gems were able to change and get new merch than so can Steven. His older self doesn’t look that different honestly. But being the main character and almost a mascot of the series, I can see why they’d be reluctant to change it
I see what you mean, but for outfit changes, the molds/patterns for the Gem’s merchandise doesn’t change, it’s merely a color change. They may change, but their design would still be pretty consistent. If Steven got a design change, all of his new merch would have to be changed completely to look correct when compared to his new design.

Well going back to Finn, he went from being 12 at the start of the series to 17 by the end. Despite this his design was never changed (outside of the arm), having the character grow up with the audience while not making him look physically any different outside of occasionally showing some facial hair. I feel they are following that same path with Steven. We know from Nightmare hospital that time is naturally progressing in the show since Connie says she hasn’t needed glasses for almost a year meaning the events of that episode take about a year after an indirect kiss. There are 41 episodes in between the two (counting 2 parters as 1 and Say Uncle as not cannon) so that’s about the amount of episodes that make up a year in the Steven Universe universe. In Steven’s birthday we learn Steven is 14. 41 episodes later and we arrive at raising the barn, so i’m gonna say sometime around the start of season 5 was Steven’s 15th birthday. Meaning Steven has aged 2 years since the series began.
Jake Pulley During Steven’s Birthday, Garnet does tell him when Ruby met Sapphire, which was 5,750 years ago. In Reunited, Sapphire tells Ruby that they met 5,750 years, 8 months ago. So, 8 months passed between the end of season 2 and the end of season 5, and Steven is still 14.
JournaloftheWiccan I understand that. What I’m asking is in Greg’s photo album. He’s with Steven from ages 1-3 then gone for 4 years. And then he’s back when Stevens 8. Sooo where was he?? The Gems and Greg both said that Greg raised him up until Steven moved into the temple. But that doesn’t follow the photo book. Idk. It’s just off putting.
I believe Greg raised Steven until he was 6 or 7 and then moved him in with Gems (that's what it seemed to me in the extended "We Are the Crystal Gems" opening")
CinnamonGrrlErin1 okay. I understand that as well. But where are the pictures? Greg has been doing in most of Stevens life. Why not from the ages 3-8... the crewniverse has to do that for SOME kind of reason.
I don't mind if Steven doesn't age up. I figured he never would unless he wanted to. But,unpopular Family Guy opinion,I liked Vinnie better than Brian.
-White diamond corrupts gems -Blue diamond weakens gems -Yellow diamond poof gems -Pink diamond shuttering gems My theory that's why yellow diamond says "no one should have survived our attacks"
,@@darkie1832 nope, she wanted to shatter rose or Steven but she never did it and also when u connect the dots to pink the only diamond left to completely erase the gems during the war. But since pink diamond was shatter it only weaken them, poof them, and corrupted the gems
You do make a valid point. However, I also have a counterpoint. Perhaps, during his efforts to uncorrupt gems, White Diamond will cause mental trauma that will leave Steven with no choice but to mentally mature. We already know that even White Pearl was not safe from White Diamond's bad moods, so why would Steven be any safer from it after his mom did what she did? This could likely happen in the likely hood that White decides that saving the gems on earth isn't worth the effort and/or Pink needs to be punished for her actions by not letting her have this. If that happens, Steven will be forced to realize that, even if he does everything right, there will still be people who can't be reasoned with. But even if this doesn't happen, Steven should at least be aged up at or near the end of the series. He and Connie both deserve that much. At the very least as a time jump to see a happy ending in the epilogue.
Steven has already aged. He was 12 at the start of the series. And now he's 14. Plus his appearance changed a bit. He lost a bit of weight and got a bit taller and mature
I feel like in the end he must change and grow so it can reflect him growing up.a big part of rose making steven is that so she and him can experience growing .it would be pointless if he doesnt grow up and severely undermine his existence. Besides , if he is gonna marry connie in a few years. Its gonna be awkward if he still remains a 14 year old and she grows up
I feel like so many birthdays was deliberate fan service because we weren't getting those. The only person in Stevens life he wants to be older for is Connie , but she takes that pressure off when they talk in Stevens birthday. Steven himself was satisfied to stay short and grow one facial hair. In show we've had it explained that Steven has control of his physical form almost the same as a gem. His default has changed from 8 to 12 but his real age is 14+.
Kennys curse is the reason why the characters in south park never age. Like everytime kenny dies the cycle of the same age begin again.( Just a theory) 😃
I know an exception to the status quo marketing rule: My Little Pony. The status quo changes constantly with that series, Twilight Sparkle only gaining wings at the end of the third season. All Hasbro did was just add wings to already existing vector images of her for merch and promos. Granted, I would have liked to have seen new vector art of Twilight post alicorn-ification, but I realize that would have been expensive.

Man. Nearly every character in the show has changed in design at least once. And it's not like there's all that much merchandise around this show -- which is a regular topic of discussion even on this channel. Heck, this channel regularly looks at what little merchandise that does come out for hints at how characters may change in design in future episodes. Furthermore, it's not like most merchandise is particularly on-model. This argument seems pretty darned strange, all things considered. It's also weird in the year that Doctor Who -- a show that does in fact live on the basis of its tie-in merchandise -- debuts its THIRTEENTH version of the lead character.
@@highvoltage7797 I mean to be fair, I personally consider Cushing's Doctor as a kind of alternate reality Doctor because his personality, name , and Tardis (not the TARDIS), were markedly different from the TV series. That does not however detract from my view of his validity as a Doctor.
Steven and Connie should move on from each other because they are not compatible with each other anymore to have a healthy relationship, Definitely. Also the recurring theme in Steven Universe is being in a relationship (platonic or not) and not getting feedback, or not communicating enough, with your partner. Sometimes you do everything you can to build bridges. You try to plant beautiful flowers on dead land, or you send texts over and over without getting a response, or the person leaves when you try to communicate more, or the other person just isn't physically able to communicate with you and you're left completely in the dark about them. Sometimes this is the other person's fault. Sometimes it isn't. And sometimes it doesn't matter whose fault it is in the end. You have to pick yourself up and move forward and do what's best for you and the people who are still there to care about you. It doesn't mean forgetting about or disregarding the other person--just not letting your life revolve around someone who isn't there anymore, but still being able to healthily confront your feelings about them. I feel like getting "radio silence" from a partner or getting "ghosted" is a relatively new thing to happen in relationships (on a regular basis) since so much of our communication is digital. We probably all have or will have had friendships/relationships where the other person doesn't text back for a long time and it drives us crazy. And we'll all deal with grief someday and have to juggle it against day-to-day requirements of our job or school. And I'm guessing most of us have had a person in their life who leaves us and we eventually realize the best thing to do is to be willing to say goodbye. Additionally we see a symbolic episode "Back To The Kindergarten" where upon failing to have flowers bloom in the Kindergarten, we see flowers blooming outside of it, symbolically telling us that even if a relationship must end and has exhausted all potential to bloom, flowers can still grow elsewhere. We can all move on from our mistakes and flourish elsewhere.
Eric Torres I get your point, but as garnet said, love takes time and love takes work. They may have been through some tough times, but that’s what makes them stronger. It doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t like each other.
Jessica Universe , I agree that love takes time and love takes work, However the hints in the show are implying that Steven and Connie wont develop a true romantic relationship with each other, Because the signs and hints in the show have always shown us that Steven and Connie's relationship is like a mirror and a parallel to Pink Diamond and Pearls relationship where Steven and Connie will develop a strong and deep relationship with each other and may even have intimate moments with each other, But then eventually either Steven or Connie will develop new and stronger romantic feelings for another person and then they will fall for that person leaving the other person in their relationship alone, Just like how Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond got really close to Pearl then she eventually fell in love with Greg leaving Pearl alone I actually think this arc was designed to reflect the arc between Rose and Pearl. We've seen parallels between Pearl and Connie, and it's very clear that Pearl trusted Rose a lot only for Rose to end up hurting Pearl. We've seen how hard both Pearl and Connie trained to protect Rose and Steven respectively. The Trial was a reflection of Pink being shattered, so the arc of Connie leaving with lion to clear her head and understand Steven's perspective may be reflective of a conflict between Rose and Pearl. Maybe it reflects how pearl felt hurt and betrayed by the command to keep silent about what happened. Maybe Steven and Rose, both secretive in their own ways, feel they can't even trust their closest friend and companion with something, Connie for Steven, Pearl for Rose. Steven and Rose payed a sacrifice that a lot of people think they didn't have to do, but may have been their only choice This is just the usual cliche in TV shows where the hero or protagonist learns that their first crush is not always their true love, Then they move on from that girl to develop a relationship and feelings with a new girl or their friend who was a girl but saw her as a friend first, Whether Steven and Amethyst get together romantically or not, It's becoming very clear that Connie isn't going to be Steven's love interest at the end of the series, Because again the lesson Rebecca Sugar is trying to teach Steven is that your first crush is not always your true love so you will have to move on from that person and find your true love, And as shown how Amethyst is the only other girl besides Connie to have had some strong and deep moments with Steven it has to be her.
Eric Torres I really hope that isn’t the case. Who knows, it could work out, as Rebecca sugar has said in an interview that Connie is Stevens future love interest. They seem to both still like each other as Connie did miss Steven when she was taking a break and they were both blushing when they made up (awewewwwejeheh I ship it) I hope they both have some more cute moments before the series ends. If you’re going to reply to this comment please don’t write too much because I don’t really understand a lot of the things you’re saying.
I never bought the whole "ages depending on his feelings" If that was the case Steven would have never progressed past infancy because babies don't have that range of emotional complexity and are more instinctual than emotional. In so many birthdays, that was clearly a side effect of his shape-shifting (remember this was a season one episode, the whole arc of season one was Steven learning his powers) As for when he turned into a baby in "Stevens Birthday" Amethyst outright told everyone what happened and nobody listened, he used his shape-shifting powers too long, and when that happens normally a gem would "poof!" but since his body isn't a light construct his gem forced him to revert to the second most vulnerable state. The fact of the matter is...Steven's just short, he's a little person like Sadie. I mean just look at Steven's mother, who is taller than most gems but is smaller than her fellow diamonds. He's physically aging but his growth has been stunted.
I find the "only as young as you feel" explanation pretty easily believable, actually. Steven is only half-human, and we've been shown that he was a unusually precocious baby. Also, it is possible that his latent gem powers were helping him to adapt to his environment. When he was with Greg, he acted and progressed like a somewhat normal child. With the Gems, his powers blossomed and he started taking on more of Rose's, less shady, qualities. Either way, I think there is too much "a wizard did it" using the alias "gem magic" to ever really be sure. All that said, I do like the way you think, and I prefer that idea that Steven is just naturally a small bean.
@@Prrrditious I don't know, he seemed like a pretty normal baby in "Three gems and a baby" If you're referring to how baby Steven acted in Steven's Birthday, well then I don't think precociousness counts, Steven was clearly still his fourteen year old self in infant form,
The problem is, they don't really market the show as much as you think. Sure, shirts and collectibles are merchandise, but that stuff can largely stay the same even if they do age Steven up. It doesn't even have to be drastic changes, he can still be recognizable if he's taller and has a little deeper voice. Of course they COULD be going with the whole "he's immortal" thing too, so who knows.
Everyone relax!!!! I'm sure Steven can age when the time comes Especially if his gem comes undone from his stomach, maybe since he's half human, he'll not be poofed
@@brandonAB198 ah ok Well...what if a magic source prevented Steven from dying if his gemstone was removed, other than the healing I mean, would it be possible? It probably won't, will it?
I love how this is just say “Steven won’t change because of Marketing” when literally every other main character other than Steven has had an extreme change in design in the most recent episode.
they've updated the gems but that feels like it's just part of their character design. I think if they ever do a bigger design change for Steven, it might be part of a later production season like you said. if it starts to feel like there'll be an end to the current series to prompt a time skip, they might even go the rebranding route but with SU, I think they'll try to do it as organically as possible in that case.
i figured we were getting a look at steven ageing due to how old he feels, i.e. in the wedding when steven shaves and uses the razor garnet got him for the first time (presumably) all while hes talking about his mom being pink, showing how this revelation has matured steven in a way
Being a VSP (Very Short Person) myself, I have no problem with Steven staying the height that he is. I'm 4ft 6 1/2in, in my mid-20s, and restaurants have JUST stopped asking me if I want the kid's menu! He's already got the start of whiskers (lol), so they'd just have to gradually deepen his voice over time.
I remember that AoT has had its few time skips but it has still remained under the same name AoT. I really like how Hajime had minorly changed the characters when there isnt a time skip. Especially physical appearances and character development UwU
I know this is unrelated to the video but the song it's over isn't it at 1:13 could help your assertion about pearl. Considering she describes herself as experimental.
I hope that if its ever to happen , it goes something along the idea that while he is growing in mass ,mantaining a compact form becomes painful to him and he is forced to shapeshift taller in order to feel more comfortable, but he still shapeshifts into a kid before people notice bc everybody has been uncharacteristically nice to him and remembering that one day he was so young and he matured a lot since then, and he reminisces his feats and is afraid he isnt mature enough, that is until garnet and greg come in and assure him he's going to be an ok adult ,and he inevitably shifts back to be more comfortable in a preteen form like the birthday ep. Thats kinda crap but is my take on it haha.
It would be cool to make him a little bit older (and maybe stay that way for the rest of the series) and allow Zach to pull off a more reasonable older voice
@@PeterGriffin11 Anime follows it's own rules. The rest are new IPs. I guess the same could be said with the Recess kids. Only character that comes to mind is Joseph from King of the Hill but he isn't much of a main character. (edit) The kids in Young Justice aged up a bit didn't they?
It's not really well thought through, but the idea crossed my mind that maybe Steven is not growing up even though he's mentally maturing because Pink/Rose - and she is part of him - stayed childish her whole life. But it could also be an indication that he doesn't *want* to grow up, or doesn't feel ready to, or doesn't feel like he deserves it yet. I'm not really sure the reason has to be marketing, as when it comes to logos and such it would still be logical to only show the season 1 appearances of the characters, at least to avoid spoilers. That and Pearl and Amethyst changed and that didn't seem to cause an issue. I just don't see what would stop anyone from making products with literaly any of their designs, when there are multiple. It's not like people completely want to forget the earlier seasons existed...
I think you haven't noticed, that he's Already changing! :O It looks like an artistic change, but look closer.. He's getting thinner, and a little taller. He's short and round when around imposing characters, but when it's HIS time to shine, he tends to get taller and thinner. Also, the episode about Steven being older was probably a test by the crew to see how people would respond to an older looking Steven.
The rugrats were aged up in a new series years after their final season. So the final season may have to occur then reboot for an older Steven with different name like you said
Ya they rarely age up characters in Western Animation. Only exceptions I can think of is Ben 10 (as you said), Avatar the Last Airbender (they look much different reflecting how much more serious the show got by it's end. They no longer look like naive kids, but mature adults ready for war), and then How to Train Your Dragon/Dragons: Defenders of Berk (15-16) and Race to the Edge (Movie 2 look being 18-19). They rarely change the appearance for characters for animated sequels as well as cartoons which I don't understand why. That's probably the only movie franchise I can think of that drastically changes the appearance of the characters like that.
In The Clone Wars (which aired on CN) they gave new designs to most of the characters halfway through season three and would've done the same halfway through season six had it aired at the time. These new designs were drastically different from the previous ones, especially with Anakin and Ahsoka. So, maybe they'll do the same in SU, where they'll age Steven up in the middle of the series.
Nice theory! But I dont think it will be that complicated to update steven merchandise.. they sort of do it all the time like wedding Ruby & Sapphire, and if he did grow up, he'll probably look recognizable just taller, deeper voice..
At the time it aired, I honestly thought we should have seen Steven age up (at least temporary) at the end of Bubbled. Where Steven asks garnet “Even if it meant shattering someone?” “Yes...” Then he sighs and he morphs into like his teenage self “Thanks for telling me” It could have been a sign of him has mentally/emotionally matured having accepted the “truth” of his mother’s actions.
Is that why season 6 still isn’t confirmed? It could be because while it’s unofficially season 6, it’s also the moment steven universe turns into a new series, like “Steven Quartz Universe”
I saw a recent post on Instagram and they’re showing the cast they was an extra called jade and the voice actors for that was the voice actor for Garnet and Peridot sooo New Gem?
Ben 10 showed why updating character designs is better for a show than keeping a design for the sake of consistency. It was actually more profitable to change up the set roster of aliens per series, as they were able to sell new merch while keeping the old merch relevant, as they were still able to bring old aliens as and when they felt like it in the show.
I think Amathus will grow because when Steven and Connie fused YOU said she might of got gem in her DNA, so when Steven and Amathus fused she would have human in her DNA. Which is way she was made small, her fate knew she was going to find Steven and turn part human and grow bigger and stronger then ever.
I feel like you're really over-emphasizing the difficulty of "replacing the stock images of Steven" and changing the logos on sites like Hulu and the Cartoon Network app and site. Would that really be that difficult? And who's to say we need those "stock images" replaced? When you look up One Piece on google as well as some other anime and shows you see photos of the characters from multiple points in the series, nothing wrong with that. Also you frame new merch of an older Steven as a chore, but wouldn't that just be more money for Cartoon Network, Hot Topic etc.? An age up could definitely be seen from the other perspective as a chance to revitalize the series and get people excited and promote merch rather than an "expensive, time consuming chore". Just my thoughts.
This channel used to care about the story and why things are happening in cannon and now I feel like all they talk about is the CN execs and the reasons in the real world behind this stuff. I can not believe they made a whole video about this and didn’t talk AT ALL about how they’re dealing with these restrictions put on them in universe. Like I was really pumped to hear about how Steven’s powers might be stunting his growth and stuff but instead I got network and money excuses and I’m really disappointed.
And all this exec stuff isn’t even a good excuse! Avatar and Adventure Time (a show Rebecca worked on) both could slightly age up their character easily without having to completely alter their marketing. This is a conscious choice the crew made and I GUARANTEE there’s an in cannon explanation that goes along with it CAN WE PLEASE GET A THEORY ABOUT THAT AND BE DONE WITH ALL THIS CN B.S.
I was thinking they should do something along the lines of how Adventure Time did it. Not necessarily along the lines of a shounen time skip, or via a redesign, but by merely mentioning the passage of time and . However, if they were to do a time skip, I don't think it would end up being very unnatural considering if they time it correctly (like after the home world arc or something). Also, just want to point out that DB and Naruto are pretty much the only two anime which re-branded themselves after a time-skip.

Jake Pulley During Steven’s Birthday, Garnet does tell him when Ruby met Sapphire, which was 5,750 years ago. In Reunited, Sapphire tells Ruby that they met 5,750 years, 8 months ago. So, 8 months passed between the end of season 2 and the end of season 5, and Steven is still 14.
im hopping for a time skip series like they did with the OG ben 10

okay but WHERE was Greg from ages 3-8?????????
That's a good question
He was probably watching little butler..... 😂 😂 😂

-White diamond corrupts gems
-Blue diamond weakens gems
-Yellow diamond poof gems
-Pink diamond shuttering gems
My theory that's why yellow diamond says "no one should have survived our attacks"
That makes sense.
wasent that blue diamond
,@@darkie1832 nope, she wanted to shatter rose or Steven but she never did it and also when u connect the dots to pink the only diamond left to completely erase the gems during the war. But since pink diamond was shatter it only weaken them, poof them, and corrupted the gems
White doesn’t corrupt gems. All 3 of their powers together did
Well, If white diamond corrupts gems, than Yellow and Blue would not have been surprised.
This theory was confirmed in the movie, and possibly. Season 6.
He literally predicted Steven universe future I-
You do make a valid point.
I see Steven Universe ageing but only near the end of the series maybe on the last season at earliest
maybe Steven has a defective growth hormones
Like pink did??!?!
I agree with you!
I love the thought of Gems having DNA.
I feel like in the end he must change and grow so it can reflect him growing up.a big part of rose making steven is that so she and him can experience growing .it would be pointless if he doesnt grow up and severely undermine his existence. Besides , if he is gonna marry connie in a few years. Its gonna be awkward if he still remains a 14 year old and she grows up
And he was right. They aged Steven at the END of the series, rebranded as Steven Universe Future.

Jessica Universe
, I agree that love takes time and love takes work, However the hints in the show are implying that Steven and Connie wont develop a true romantic relationship with each other, Because the signs and hints in the show have always shown us that Steven and Connie's relationship is like a mirror and a parallel to Pink Diamond and Pearls relationship where Steven and Connie will develop a strong and deep relationship with each other and may even have intimate moments with each other,
But then eventually either Steven or Connie will develop new and stronger romantic feelings for another person and then they will fall for that person leaving the other person in their relationship alone, Just like how Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond got really close to Pearl then she eventually fell in love with Greg leaving Pearl alone
I actually think this arc was designed to reflect the arc between Rose and Pearl. Steven and Rose payed a sacrifice that a lot of people think they didn't have to do, but may have been their only choice
This is just the usual cliche in TV shows where the hero or protagonist learns that their first crush is not always their true love, Then they move on from that girl to develop a relationship and feelings with a new girl or their friend who was a girl but saw her as a friend first, Whether Steven and Amethyst get together romantically or not, It's becoming very clear that Connie isn't going to be Steven's love interest at the end of the series, Because again the lesson Rebecca Sugar is trying to teach Steven is that your first crush is not always your true love so you will have to move on from that person and find your true love, And as shown how Amethyst is the only other girl besides Connie to have had some strong and deep moments with Steven it has to be her.
I'm sure Steven can age when the time comes
Especially if his gem comes undone from his stomach, maybe since he's half human, he'll not be poofed

I love how this is just say “Steven won’t change because of Marketing” when literally every other main character other than Steven has had an extreme change in design in the most recent episode.
now I know why 17 year old Finn looks exactly like 13 year old Finn
they've updated the gems but that feels like it's just part of their character design. I think if they ever do a bigger design change for Steven, it might be part of a later production season like you said. if it starts to feel like there'll be an end to the current series to prompt a time skip, they might even go the rebranding route but with SU, I think they'll try to do it as organically as possible in that case.
This was spot on
i figured we were getting a look at steven ageing due to how old he feels, i.e. in the wedding when steven shaves and uses the razor garnet got him for the first time (presumably) all while hes talking about his mom being pink, showing how this revelation has matured steven in a way
Steven needs to age up already; he's fourteen and he still looks like an eight year old!
This is funny to watch while being in 2020 :D
I remember that AoT has had its few time skips but it has still remained under the same name AoT. I really like how Hajime had minorly changed the characters when there isnt a time skip. Especially physical appearances and character development UwU

Scary o so scary
Hey i'm from 2021 and Steven does become taller on Steven univerce movie

What about young justice, that's a 5 year gap between season 1 and 2. Not counting the reboot.
It would be weird seeing Steven being naturally as tall or even taller than Garnet.
Steven Universe Crystal. That's it, Rebecca Sugar, hop to it please 🤩
Would making him a little taller or something really affect merchandise all that much?
I think you haven't noticed, that he's Already changing! :O
It looks like an artistic change, but look closer.. He's getting thinner, and a little taller. He's short and round when around imposing characters, but when it's HIS time to shine, he tends to get taller and thinner.
Also, the episode about Steven being older was probably a test by the crew to see how people would respond to an older looking Steven.
Steven Universe Movie: Im about to ruin this Video
The rugrats were aged up in a new series years after their final season. So the final season may have to occur then reboot for an older Steven with different name like you said
So yall telling me that Steven universe itself ended and Steven universe: future is a time skip thing
Like how we never see Finn physically change either???
The music is so intense and sounds like it's building up to something...
Nice theory! But I dont think it will be that complicated to update steven merchandise.. they sort of do it all the time like wedding Ruby & Sapphire, and if he did grow up, he'll probably look recognizable just taller, deeper voice..
Okay
So, this does make alot of sense and why it happened. What you said happened, Vox called it guys!

@MEOW CAT sorry but i cant control my aging process nor does my maturity affects my age
Bakugan is also another cartoon where the characters aged up and changed, you forgot to mention it.
At the time it aired, I honestly thought we should have seen Steven age up (at least temporary) at the end of Bubbled. Where Steven asks garnet “Even if it meant shattering someone?”
“Yes...”
Then he sighs and he morphs into like his teenage self
“Thanks for telling me”
It could have been a sign of him has mentally/emotionally matured having accepted the “truth” of his mother’s actions.
Is that why season 6 still isn’t confirmed? It could be because while it’s unofficially season 6, it’s also the moment steven universe turns into a new series, like “Steven Quartz Universe”
I know for a fact korra aged up for season 4. And I'm pretty sure you can sell more merch with more designs

Now it's only a matter of time before Crewniverse says "hold my beer" to that claim.
They could do one of those dramatic endings wherr it cuts to him in the future at the end of the series, but maybe not
I like how when the 'new antagonists' for Naruto were mentioned, all who were shown was Hidan and Kakuzu. Best Akatsuki members.
Video starts at 1:00 so you dont have to wait.
Aged up Steven in the pilots art style *Boom.*
But there doing it for lapis and peridot, their changing their uniforms?! So why not with steven? It would only be fair wouldn’t it??
My new restaurant:

A Rabid Steven Universe (AwestruckVox) - Get lost
I was thinking they should do something along the lines of how Adventure Time did it. Not necessarily along the lines of a shounen time skip, or via a redesign, but by merely mentioning the passage of time and . However, if they were to do a time skip, I don't think it would end up being very unnatural considering if they time it correctly (like after the home world arc or something).
Also, just want to point out that DB and Naruto are pretty much the only two anime which re-branded themselves after a time-skip.
I think another great example of that aging up process is the Rugrats and the All grown up series
