Hey gang! When I said "This was before Guns-n-Roses" during Piece Of The Pie - I was wrong. I was thinking of the album Midnite Dynamite and not Blow My Fuse. Appetite hits the streets in 1987 and Blow My Fuse was 1988, but I think the vibe/flavor is just a coincidence. Anyway, my bad. My mouth gets me in trouble sometimes. : )
Kix was unique. _Midnite Dynamite_ was such a bombshell (pun intended). Great riffage, great dual guitar interplay, great hooks, great singing, great songwriting.
Kix were so ahead of the crowd…even when they first started out, they put on a SHOW…Steve Whiteman would fill a bucket with water and throw it at the audience, but confetti would come out…growing up in Baltimore, we got to see Kix quite a lot…absolutely fantastic 👍
Now were talkin! The intro tone on "Blow my Fuse" is my most sought after tone. I got it pretty close. Thanks B🐓! There clearly needs to be a Part 2 to this chordplay.
Thanks for this lesson David! Brian Forsythe is an old roommate and friend of mine. What everyone who knows him will tell you is Brian is the nicest guy in rock, hands-down!
My friend gave me their ep/1st album in 1982-3 that album was insane he was from stroudsburgh PA where they played all the time There semi live version of yeah yeah yeah floored me
Hey what's up man this is pretty cool to see I'm from Pasadena Maryland right outside of Baltimore these dudes maybe my favorite hair band. Plus they are from my home town sort of. I know you like tele's, this dude has a great telecaster tone. Anyways cant wait to check this out. They just played their final show last weekend here in Maryland. Anyone who liked rock music that was between 35 and 65 was there. Cheers man have a good one
KIX was the greatest band that Maryland produced. They started out called The Generators, but later decided to change their name. There was this place called Hammerjacks in Baltimore Maryland. KIX played there all the time. Always sold out. KIX blew everyone away with their live shows. Happy retirement to one of the best bands that most of you all don't know about.
Lived in Germantown in 85/86 used to drive down to Hagerstown for guitar lessons. These guys would be at the store hanging out impromptu jamming/answering questions frequently. Great band. Great video.🤘
"Be Vewy Vewy quiet, I huntin', Woman huntin'." I was a freshman in college when the first album came out. I used to play Yeah, Yeah, Yeah on my weekly radio show on the college radio station. Other DJ's heard me playing it and picked it up for their shows. Kix sold pretty well for a nowhere college town in Michigan.... "and she threw up again." LOL. Great stuff.
i live in severn md , saw kix many times , they were the tightest band live--- totally entertaining and they consistantly sounded as good as the albums when they were live. really one of the best rock bands ever. Thanks for doing this video !!
This is why David is the best. I was listening to Kix the other day and boom a video! I've been on a hair metal kick lately and a lot of the guitat players from the 1980s were pretty damn good if you go back and listen. Thx David
Great lesson…and tribute! I’m also a huge fan of thunderously loud ringing chords. Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ is a prime example. Love that song, mostly for that very reason.
Wow. I just remembered. It was 1977 Jeppson stadium Houston. The show was Ted Nugent with special guests (opening acts) Kix and Foreigner. Foreigner got a real favorable reception as a new band with one new hit on the radio. Kix was pretty good but obviously over-shadowed by Foreigner and Nugent.
Hi Dave. Great lesson. Kix is just about unknown to me but not anymore. I like what ya said at the end there. It's about cool chordplay not hit's.[not that hit's are bad]. Never too early to say Happy Happoween and thanks for the late night lessons. A student can't go wrong with Dave Brewster. Rock on! bye for now
Btw, a suggestion : how about a Dio-era Sabbath Chordplay ?!?! There are so much amazing gems ("Neon knights", "Mob rules", "Voodoo", "Children of the sea", "Lonely is the word", "Turn up the night" just to name a few). And how about a Ted Nugent Chordplay (maybe you've already done it... can't recall) ?
Kix were incredible and should have been so much bigger... their first five albums litterally kill !!! One hidden gem from their second album : "Love pollution". Btw, I've got all Kix albums on vinyl.... precious stuff 🙂
Great vid! Love Kix! You should do the chords of Enuff Z’Nuff!! Derek Frigo was an absolute beast and I also really wanna learn how to play songs like Strength, For Now, and Blue Island
Do more Kix lessons , Heartache Brian use to show me some songs Brian and Ronnie complement each other playing like I haven’t heard in a long time Thank you!!!
I saw Kix in '89 with Britny Fox, opening for Ratt... in West Virginia. Ratt were... not at their best, Britny Fox's singer (in lace cuffs and foppish finery) tried to pick a fight with someone in the audience who threw a piece of a chair at the stage before starting their ballad... Kix totally stole the show, blew everybody else off the stage. ❤

and also. it may just be me but I hear Zep's musical shadow all over rock guitar and the more I check out Page the more amazing and emotive he gets. Just sayin
I saw Great White with Tesla opening and special guest Kix back in the day. Kix and Tesla blew Great White off the stage. I didn't get into Kix until Blow My Fuse like a lot of people did. When I saw them, it was the last night of the tour for them and they just burned it down onstage. They were fun and just rockin' .. then you bring out Tesla who was a little more serious but hella rockin' and then poor Great White. They were definitely a lot more chill, and kinda boring in comparison, when they came out.

Listen to "She Dropped me the bomb"
A total steal from "Shake me!"
I'd say it reminds me a lot more of Look What the Cat Dragged in by Poison on e string chug against the diads
@Scottocaster6668 And, from If You Want Blood... definitely some AC/DC "flavour" there 😎

Love Kix, I saw them so many times here in MD. Especially at Hammerjacks and the Network. Going to miss them live. Thanks for this.
Thanks for these lessons. I also get to discover bands I never heard of or never gave them a listen to thanks to your channel.
Kix was the band I saw more times than any other. I love that you put this one together.
Grew up with those jams 🔥once again you are on it 👊
Now were talkin!

thank you so much for this one dave! ❤

Seems like this band deserves another episode, so many more cool riffs. We haven't even gotten to Hot Wire yet, so many great tunes.
Man, I have been searching for decades for someone to teach me that cool intro to Yeah, Yeah Yeah. This is perfect! Thank you!!!

Used to live in Hanover, PA. Would see Kix at Maxwells for $2. Then their success!
Love Kix!! Also just received my copy of the cd!! It’s awesome David! Such cool little goodies!! Rock on👏🏻🤘🏻🎸🎸
Thanks so much and that's awesome!
Enjoy and have a great weekend!
: )
I loved kix back in the day and still. Awesome lesson today as always.
Omg this is just what I needed. This is really interesting. I love Kix. 🤘🎸

Thank you sir !
Great stuff! I hope someday you make a Chordplay - "The Chords Of Saxon". Especially that "Princess Of Night" riff.

I’m from Hagerstown and love the Dirty Boys of the Underground
Definitely in my top 5! More KIX
Such an underrated band. They sounded great in concert.
I wish for a " Blow my fuse" deep dive. These guys weren't your average guitar band. Moderate theory implied.
i live in severn md , saw kix many times , they were the tightest band live--- totally entertaining and they consistantly sounded as good as the albums when they were live. really one of the best rock bands ever. Thanks for doing this video !!

Saw them many times in the SF Bay area always a bummer to see another working rock and roll band retire the good news Metal Month is coming 🤘👍
A band I always like.
Great lesson…and tribute! I’m also a huge fan of thunderously loud ringing chords. Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ is a prime example. Love that song, mostly for that very reason.
Great lesson!
Nicely done sir
Excellent job as usual, dude !

Can you do the blues player Sam “lightnin” hopkins sometime? Love your channel man!
That's good ol rock
Holy shit I cant believe you are covering KIX - Yeah Baltimore - HAMMERJACKS_ Damn they were good!!! Thanks David.

Kids love Kix for what Kix has got; moms love Kix for what Kix has not.

I always got a little AC/DC vibe from KIX. But they were still original and stood on their own. Rollin in Honey is a cool tune off a later album
🤘
and also. it may just be me but I hear Zep's musical shadow all over rock guitar and the more I check out Page the more amazing and emotive he gets. Just sayin
RJ Oh black betty !
How about something from Dick Wagner an Steve Hunter???? PLEASE
kix part 2 with 1991 record (girl money and blow my fuse) please

obnoxous r0ckin out, ha... 🎵r0ck0n 🎵
Kix bigger and better than the Dead Heads.
Would help if you would put tabs.!!
They definitely had an ac/dc grind but to me a much better band than ac/dc 🤣🤣 it’s all subjective though.
Gotta love a guitar player wearing a Fender hat but playing a Gibson. It's a joke, David.
