It's nearly unnoticeable when they're run through the distortion channel. But when they're clean, it's pretty noticeable.
Yeah...The strat sounds better!
Every weapon is lethal in the hands of a master, and this is the answer
Very nice summary👍🏽

i would make both guitars sound like a 10$ guitar
😂😂
lmfao

"ma nabavim ti ja istu kod kineza za 100 kn hahah"
Haha silly Jared, I can't afford either guitar.
*Doesn't cry because water is expensive*
There was a small difference, but not a $2700 difference.
When you play them there is a $2700 difference. With the right settings, you can imo get much better tones out of the majesty. Also it feels way nicer to play
Nino not a $2700 difference. theres a threshold point where the more money you pay is going towards cosmetic reasons, and usually a sticker that says “Made in the USA”
It's not just the sound that matters; the feel, durability, how it sounds with pedals, and the brand value also brings the difference!
Well said sir
I am not specialist and cant really hear difference, but I just really enjoyed tunes you played here :)
Both sounded similar just shows the amp is by far the most important criteria for your tone, the musicman is probably better made and easier to play (jumbo frets, 24 frets etc, lower action). The musicman is a premium instrument but I've never been a fan of their body shape
I almost hate to say it, but the $3,000 guitar seemed to have a richer tone.
Any guitar will sound shit in my hands lol
0:52 ..most beautiful sound i ever heard in my life holy....
I love that stringy sound with the chords of the cheaper one , gives it some kind of flavour but the more expensive one sounds clearer though....
Maybe compare a $3000 HH with a $300 HH. And then compare a $3000 SSS strat with a $300 SSS strat. As in the pickups.
Brady stephenson It is not a problem. It is just a suggestion for a new video.
The expensive guitar was definitely a lot cleaner, but the "Clean" sound was more pleasing on the cheaper one.
the more expensive one sounds better but i wouldn't pay $3000 for it
Really love the grunge clean and twang on the strat, leaves room for the other instruments to cut through a possibly decent mix.
Probably a $27 dollar difference in tone but not $2,700. But with the clean tone the cheaper strat was tons better sounding, I was actually shocked! 😯
You can hear that the majesty had a better tone across the board but strangely it wasnt by a whole lot. Honestly upgrading the pickups on a $300 guitar would be the same as buying a $1000 or $3000 guitar.
true
True
Not enough of a difference to justify the extra money.
Savagemister true
agreed one could have several verities of fenders for the cost difference here
Savage Mister Agreed , Gonna Get The Cheap One
Both are same for me... Two guitars that I can't afford.
Ok
Same😭😂
Less difference than i expected, can not justify the price difference imo. I would invest in a more expensive amp rather than in a guitar honestly.
I can make the $3000 sounds like $300 one ._.
hey..me too!!
Good one X)
I noticed some differences in tone but i think the overall message was that maybe it's the person holding gutair and knowing what hes doing is the big difference
It’s such a small difference that I don’t think anyone would say the $300 sounds cheap. I just think they would say it sounds slightly different, and that’s about as far as that thought goes. Most people probably wouldn’t notice a difference, especially when it’s used in conjunction with other instruments like drums, lead guitar, bass etc. and all the right settings to make it sound really good.
It doesn't matter how costly the guitar is. If the guitarist is Badass, he will make badass sound out of a 100$ guitar.
the clean sound was a huge differnece
music man was better, but not $3,000 better.
The expensive guitar sounds better quality wise but I really like the way the cheaper, lower quality guitar sounds with the riff at 1:18. I guess it just depends on what kind of sound you’re looking for
If people think $300 is cheap for a guitar then they dont know the struggle.
JackstandJohnny damn right
JackstandJohnny aha too true
JackstandJohnny lol go cut some grass instead of smoking it you'll eventually earn enough to get a one.
in my country $1=MYR5 roughly...my most expensive guitar cost me $150..an epiphone les paul...and a $100 kramer...a proud owner though
JackstandJohnny lol just messing with you bro. Cutting grass was how I earned my first guitar. It was a Lyle and cost 30$ in 1981 dollars but I also bought my first car for 900$ cutting grass too in 1984. Dang I feel old now lol.
There is nothing you cannot play on a strat probably most versatile guitar
Talent. Let's not forget talent.
$3000 guitar is not going to make you sound good if you've just mastered Mary had a little lamb
Everyone is comparing the two guitars, but there's me enjoying the totally sick riffs!
ayy 21 mins ago
Jared. You should do this again with two similar guitar styles, one cheap one expensive, and put the same pick up in each. That's probably the best way to test sound difference in guitars.
rblyle382 yes, a strat and that music man are going to sound completely different knowing the combination of pick ups they have, it sounds more that a differece between single coil and humbuker
Andrés Segura sigh, if you pay attention he has both guitars set to the bridge which means they are both using Humbuckers. But the quality and type are likely very different. The body type and wood effect tone ever so slightly too. Plus electronics on the inside may affect it further such as wire gauge, potentiometer quality, capacitor values, etc.
rblyle382 you a right, my mistake, but yes, both guitars sound very different
I suspect the Single Coil vs the Humbucker probably affected the sound more significanly than the price difference did.
Travis Olson the strat has a bridge humbucker too. I only noticed it half way into the video :p
TCarapinha Oh I see now. One's black and the other is cream colored. I thought that was an SSS Strat.
No one can beat a strat in clean sound
Sorry bro, my dean superstrat can make sound clean like accoustic
I know nothing about guitars, so I have no bias... Music Man sounded way better (if that was the black one with gold)...
The only difference I could tell was the difference between a single coil tone and a humbucker tone
They both mount humbuckers, rainmaker and illuminator pickups have ceramic magnets while fender humbucker is for sure an alnico V from what I can hear, the musicman is in mohogany and the fender is probably alder and with a maple neck, one is extremely dark and the other extrlemy shiny ahahaha. The style he plays is much more for the majesty, which is built for that kind of really dark a low mid focused tone. I personally don't like very much the majesty beacuse the tone is too big for my tastes and i find sometimes muddy but the Majesty is one of the best built guitar i have ever seen, no point even talking about that. It's always about your taste.
Distortion: Draw.
Cleans: The strat, lots of brightness and clarity.
Crunch: Musicman, Much deeper and warmer.
Heavy Distortion: Musicman, Depth and warmth.
Distorted lead with reverb: Draw.
Distortion: Tie
Clean: Strat
Crunch: Majesty
Heavy Distortion: Majesty
Distorted Lead w/ Reverb: Majesty
Winner: Majesty
Humbucker against single coil, of course the humbucker will sound better on overdrive...
@@ron9509 he was using the humbucker on the back of the strat bro
what is the name of that effect? with what pedal can you do? (Distorted Lead w/ Reverb)
I need to make a pedal that sounds like this
@@sh1nighami yeah didnt saw the black piece haha. But still comparing a fender with am alder body with a musicman that has mahogony or something is still pretty strange. Use a ltd eclipse or something thing will sound way better distorted. Strats are only good for certain styles imo.
If I could get a Fender strat for 300 bucks, i wouldn't think it twice
A Mexican strat isn't very good. You can easily find them.
I paid $3500 for mine, but all my idols recorded theirs with $300 guitars! Great vid Jared. Cheers!
The $3000 guitar sounded more expensive.
lol
not really just darker warmer and fatter humbuckers and different body woods and constructed differently.
it looks more expensive 😂
I heard a difference but it was a slight difference. The $3,000 guitar sounded slight more "bold and tight" and the $300 guitar was a little more loose and and not as bold but I don't think that difference is $2,700 worth.
Kyle Ferguson yup
On clean the difference is huge, but I won't lie, on heavy distortion I could not tell difference.
Iron Beard clean was the only one I heard the difference on and it wasn’t that different to me. The amp is probably really expensive though and that makes a big difference
its most likely because the 3k guitar uses humbuckers while the fender uses singlecoils
I'm not even a musician and i immediately noticed the difference with the clean sound.
on the heavy distortion the difference was much clearer for me haha
That distortion lead with reverb gets me everytime. So simple, yet hits hard. I gotta learn it lol
i hear the 2700 $ diference in my wallet
Marcus Weaver whahaha i don't have a wallet😂😂
Is there a difference? Hell yes. Is the difference worth $2,700? Hell no.
Price has nothing to do with it. You could compare a single coils guitar to a humbucker guitar in the same price bracket and they'd still sound different.
there can't be nothing like a "2700$ difference" in sound. mere sound is ALMOST just a matter of effects, amp (which are the same in this case), and pickups (are they even different?), pickup configuration, then come the strings, method of fixing of the neck to the body, etc. the difference between the guitars is much bigger than just the sound and it IS a 2700$ dollars (otherwise the musicman woudn't cost that much). is it actually worth the money? let each buyer decide. if you're rich as fuck, probably yes, if you can't afford it, surely not
Alright, quiet then.
It doesn't matter whether a guitar is cheap or expensive.
Both of them are good and we should set the tone according to our need.
I agree
That cheaper one sounds more beat up but gives it a more aggressive tone
there is a difference but not $2700 difference in sound
to me 30 is cheap and 300 is an expensive one 😂
Both sound good. Strat is better, but not $2700 better unless guitar playing is your life.
In a studio environment, you can easily save the $4700 in post. Live, the Strat will shine every time. Heavy distortion setting actually goes to the Music Man.
Where the hell do you get a Mexi Strat for 300 dollars?
Metallideth hahahahah
Metallideth maybe he meant “pretend this is a squire strat”
Your mom’s house I heard
Sergeant Z.U.C.C You could treat it like a guitar store, but it still won’t be as open as your dad was last night.
Clean is where I can hear the most difference
The clean riff is eargasm
The thing is that a stratocaster isn´t really a "cheap" guitar...I mean, of course is not as expensive as newer models and brands...but it is a classic instrument of proven quality and its own charcteristic sound...
Tfw when you call an original new Fender strat a cheap guitar
😵😵where u can find a fender strat sunburst for 300 bucks..
player series is about 600 new in germany, you can find used mexicans for bout 400€ here, darrel braun dug up some mexican standards for bout 350 canadian.
Maybe luck sometimes u can find someone selling a fender bargain price
I play a sunburst strat
It sounds sexy asf
@@PatriotIndeed White strat here
There is a difference, but its a very subtle one. Not worth the $2700 premium.
Beyond a certain point your Amp and effects setup makes a massive difference. Go to a shop and play a typical $300 Guitar through several amps.
Idk why but the clean sound of the strat sounds better to me
me too
The Majesty is clearly the superior choice for sound. It's punchier, warmer, bassier.
To the clean sounds I preffer the strat.
Strats with humbuckers do everything, its amazing
@@EliteTurtle05 With humbuckers on the neck and bridge and one single mid coil, so I agree.
I don't even have an electric guitar but still like his videos because of the music and the music is sometimes even better than actual songs
I can make 'em sound like a $10 guitar. So proud of myself.
@King_of_Dragons ok marty friedman
I think they both sound good because of the riffs, but the Music Man sounded darker
USA : the only country where a Strat costs only 300$...
I hear a difference in tone but both sounded great. Thanks for the comparison.
How can I say this... the majesty has a "fuller" sound while tha strat has a more "soft"sound. Both sound great, but to me the humbuckes of the majesty create a better sound
I agree but not a $2700 difference.
This just shows a good guitarist can make any guitar sound just as good no matter the price or style of guitar therfore just get what you can afford and are happy with then play till your fingers bleed and carry on till you get good same goes for any instrument to be honest
$300 VS $3000 Guitar + $5000 audio hardware
Wise man once said, expensive guitar is for the player, not listener
There is a difference, but not a difference worth any money.
I concur
In the clean part I think there was a pretty substantial difference, and I preferred the strat in that one, but the rest of the parts they were pretty close
The only thing the strat sounded not so great on was the crunch, it sounded very thin
The majesty definitely sounds better but for me, would rather go for the 300$ one
A good guitar is a guitar that encourages you to play it, that you like playing.
I have a cheap JH-2 knockoff that's my main guitar, because i learnt to play on it, it grew on me. While i have guitars that cost 10-times the amound of that guitar just standing next to it. Nothing can beat the ol' trusty workhorse you write those first tunes with.
Agree,i have an old acoustic on my shelf, and it's a piece of glory, the strings are about 3 centimeters apart from the neck,it is practically unplayable, but it's my first guitar that encouraged me to go on,it doesn't even have a brand name, but does it really matter?
$300 guitar is beautiful
So, where did you buy a $300 Fender Stratocaster?
back street bargain bin.
I love the buzzing sound on the mexi strat
so the final lesson is
if you have a cheap guitar, use the distortion
I think that he should compare at least two similar pickups configuration... The strat sounded like a strat and the Majesty like a Majesty...
I mean the biggest difference here will really be between single coil and humbucker pickups, not the price of the guitars.
That said, I've always found that the real difference in price is feel and playability over sound. It's easy enough to buy a $300 guitar with similar or almost identical pickups to a $3000 one (or at least to buy the cheap guitar and mod the pickups) and the sound you get will be very similar, because the pickups are identical. But the real difference will be in how well it stays in tune, how well made it is, how it feels, how it's finished.
So there are massive differences between a $300 and $3k guitar, but none of them will be immediately obvious in a listening test.
(Not meant as a criticism of the video, I really enjoyed it and love these sorts of comparisons, just thought I'd add my two cents)
I agree, I feel that he could have at least used two guitars with the same pickup type for this comparison.
Hmm there's definitely a different tone between the two, but like others have said this is a bit of apples and oranges comparison. Different pickups, the different wood types of the body and neck and fretboard, the frets...the list goes on and on. Both guitars sound great, they're doing different things.
And as far as the amp/head/pedals having more impact on tone than the guitar, I'd say it depends. I'd much rather play a well built guitar on a kinda lame amp than a poorly built guitar on an amazing amp. A guitar that plays well, fits your style, and fits your hands makes the music magic. The amp is secondary.
Honestly the main difference I heard was single coils vs. humbuckers.
I get the idea of this video, but shouldn’t the comparison be between a cheap guitar and expensive guitar that have the same style pickups? Single coils and humbuckers seem to be biggest difference here sound wise.
He's using the bridge pickup of his strat which is a humbucker as well as the majesty so that will be a fair comparison
Harvey Velasco That looks like a single coil on the Strat to me. Plus that’s what Strats normally come with.
@@brandoncollins4125 the color of his bridge pickup on strat is zebra so you can't see the black part and only see the white part of the humbucker. If you want proof you could check on some vids of jared using that strat or his guitar collection.
Harvey Velasco Gotcha. Thanks for the tip.
fenders clean tone is better, but i prefer distortion from the majesty
Jared forgot to activate the piezzo system ^^
I don't know which was the expensive one but that Strat sounded great
Hey hey 300$ is expensive too, here i was rocking out with my 40 $ guitar
The question is... where can you get a Fender Strat (even if its Mexican) for 300$?
Rico Walter used
Well, I live in Germany and here it is hard to find a used Strat for under 500€ (~600$).
There's always a noticeable difference between good gear and cheap gear imo.
However, for any people watching this video thinking they should start off with a super expensive guitar... don't.
Get good with what you have, otherwise you're just wasting money on something you may find that you don't either enjoy very much, or just don't have the time for.
I find higher end gear is better suited for people who want to record, and really commit themselves. Cheaper end to mid range is perfect for a hobbyist. Just my 2 cents because there's way too many kids running around with expensive name brand guitars who end up getting rid of them when they just don't have the passion anymore.
Thanks.
I just found this older vid, but if you happen to read the comments I think doing the same basic challenge but having both guitars dual or single PU's and just swapping the pickup from one to the other. That way we can tell if it's just the PU or the guitar itself. Love ya man and keep up the good work.
In my own humble opinion, if you're just starting an interest in guitar I'd pick a moderately priced one and see how far I can go with it. Never know if you'll lose interest, or whatever. Like I said, that's just me. Rock on 🤘🤘.
Cool video but maybe compare an inexpensive guitar with an expensive guitar with the same pick-up configuration?
He's using the bridge humbucker for both.
J. Sparrow I think he meant humbucker vs single coil
J. Sparrow are there humbuckers on strats?
Yes, HSH or HSS strats like the one in this video.
J. Sparrow Watch the video again. His hand comes completely away from the pick guard and you can clearly see a single coil on the bridge.
0:52 what is the name of the song
He made it himself
0:51 you got my heart man😍
Not a 2700 dollar difference
exactly
Word
tones are shit. You can't hear the difference in this video.
he got it used from his friend
wrong comment lol
with a good guitarrist, every guitar is a good guitar
So true, the price of the guitar does not equal the skill of the player
big difference between those two were the types of pickups. different pickups equal different sound
he was using passive humbuckers on both
Strats have single coil pickups
this one has humbucker on the bridge, which was the one he was using
matt warden they do but the model he has a humbucker in the bridge
Even still strats are known for being a twangy sounding guitar.
They both sounded good on the distortion parts but the fender sounded better on the clean but match together at the same time the two guitars together made a very unique and amazing tone as a pair
