For those that don't know, 'Bubble' (for 'Bubble And Squeak'...) is a kind of fried mashed potato based dish that normally includes cabbage, onion, herbs and whatever happens to be about at the time! (It was normally served upon a Monday to 'use up' the leftovers from a Sunday Roast Dinner!!!) It LOOKS for all the world like a Spanish Omelette, except it doesn't generally contain beaten eggs, (though it CAN!!!) Originally considered a 'poor persons' foodstuff, (because it's based upon pre-cooked leftovers...) it's now considered quite a 'posh' dish in some top British (and Irish) eateries!!! Some places do it with peas and carrots or even turnip added to the basic mashed potato/cabbage/onion mix... Some chefs even add garlic!!! It's CALLED 'Bubble And Squeak' because as you fry the vegetable 'patties' on the pan it 'bubbles' and 'squeaks'!!!!!! (The noise it makes as you fry it!) It tastes better than you'd think!!! xx SF
I’ve been eating it all my life. Wasn’t aware it was now considered posh! Fwiw I bake mine at this point. Not traditional but I love the crust that forms, rather than a greasy crunch
Finally went here on Monday. There was an actual queue of about 20 people outside. Thought at first they were just smokers outside a pub next to the cafe perhaps. We were starving so decided to sit it out and so glad we did. The guy actually is a machine...total character, remembers everyone's name and shouts your name loudly when your toast is done. Big squirt of sauce all over. Topped mines and the mrs up with the extras, hash browns and black pudding, 2 big mugs of coffee and it came out to about £16. Everything piping hot and perfectly cooked. Talk about bustling, you can't hear yourself think in there with all the chat going on. Great experience that you don't find in Pret, McD's or Starbucks
Used this cafe in the late 70's early 80's when I lived less than 5 minutes from it in Horseferry Road then popped across the road to The Royal Oak or The Barley Mow for a pint or ten. Brings back some fond memories of a time that seems like 5 minutes ago in my head but is 40 odd years ago. Nice vid.
Yes... I've seen London's Regency Cafe before, and the Full English Breakfast looked very nice. £17.60 for two people with hot drinks and the extras you both had... and in London too is pretty good value. Especially when you think that Lee went to Terry's Cafe and tried their Full English Breakfast a few days ago, and that cost him £13.75 for just himself. If Darren had been there too, you'd have to double the cost of Terry's Cafe... and it would cost you £27.50. Almost £10.00 more than the Regency Cafe, for about the same quality and quantity of food. My only little niggle, was when the guy taking your order turned to get a couple of mugs from the shelf behind him for your tea's, he put his fingers in the mugs to grab them. Mugs have handles, so why not use them!?. Hygiene in the preparation of food and drink shouldn't be an afterthought. But i understand that he might have simply made a one off mistake, so all in all a great review. Cheers Lee & Darren... 🍺
Been there a few times, always busy, Bloke behind the counter is a character, Very good at his job and usually bellows out every order when its ready, entertaining.
Thank you, Lads. I finally made the pilgrimage after hearing about this place for absolutely ages. Was there today and had scrambled eggs on toast with a cup of builders tea, less than a fiver, incredible value for London. If you think the guy behind the counter was a machine, go when it's proper busy, they have a lady manning the counter, she is absolutely insane, beats him to a pulp. The Channel 4 building is within earshot, so you will see people off the TV in there, whilst your enjoying your full english.

The Regency cafe is a very well old establishment been doing great breakfasts and lunches for years . As for the best breakfast in London , that’s a very personal choice. You have to take into consideration the ambience and the price . Try the Hawksmoor , blow your mind .
Good god that looks absolutely belter! Egg's cooked properly you can tell it has been basted properly with oil to cook it so it is cooked but still runny and not just left uncooked and snotty or even worse flipped over!!
In the ‘70s went to Mattis cafe not far from MUFC in Old Trafford. Similar thing, and also had draft beer pumps on the counter! Early morning was full of gas engineers, telephone engineers, all having breakfast before heading off to the fitst job of the day! The cafe had ice cream factory in the back run by the Italian family! So after the cafe closed in an afternoon all the ice cream vans would go out on their rounds! Happy days!!!
Looks like a nice breaky.i went down to Looe in Cornwall yesterday and got to say we had the best fish and chips we have had in ages, blooming lovely 👌
Was thinking of going here or the Ivy tomorrow for a full English. This looks really good! Can’t find a vid for the Ivy so could be a good idea for you to do one 🍳
When I worked in the Victoria area 30 years ago we used the Regency cafe everyday and the food was always pretty good , I haven't been in there for a long time but the guy that took your order was the owners son and was doing the same job taking the food orders and the money back then , he must have taken over the place now......he is looking old and grey now like the rest of us I suppose..... 👍
Good to see this review. I thought you both would have marked lower. I found the chappie behind the counter a little bit rude in his manner, plus the fingers in the mugs. Not saying the food did not look good, but disappointed that Darren had to collect the teas and breakfast himself and bring it over to the table. Where is the service at those prices? Your vids and Darren's are the Best.....IN THE WORLD!! Cheers. Alan.
Regency Cafe Has always been a magnet for Japanese & Chinese tourists so I ask one of them why is it a popular place for East Asians? she told me this is the place where Godzilla met King Kong in the 1960s 🤣🤣🤣
“Gods cafe” as quoted by a local friend…. mainly from the pre covid, un amplified, but extraordinary voice (of God) calling out the ready orders…. never seen it without a queue to the door… Don’t panic and try grabbing seats before you order, as they say, a seat will be free by the time you have ordered….. Hiya Lee and Darren, now this is a place I know. Lovely place and always busy. Proper mug of tea. Although Lee. Your bacon looked properly cremated. Lol. Darren inhaled his. Haha. He must have been hungry. Great video. Always good vibes with you two. Thank you for sharing. Have a lovely day. Take care.
The best breakfast in London in my opinion is the Premier Inn Aldgate. You can eat as much as you like as much fresh juice, tea, fruit, pastries and all for £9.99. Trust me I have tried many and none beat this place.
We all have our favourite cafe. I’m a south Londoner who’s had a season ticket at Tottenham since I was a kid. So, south London it’s one in deptford that’s my fave, Cafe Bianca. And in north London it’s bite to eat, on the south side of the football ground, on the high road

Just catching up with previous posts. No time whatsoever for the surly attitude at the till, efficient or not. Food looked ok, but to be fair its a breakfast you could best at home on any Sunday morning for half the price. Just sharing opinions. If you ever get really adventurous and hop on a cheap flight to Inverness. Three epic breakfasts in or nearby are The Jammie Piece, An Talla and The Storehouse. Loving the banter and as a fellow Son of 69 (never thought I would get to roll with that), hopefully cross paths with you both at some point be it home or abroad.
What? No fried slice? Shame! Great video. I’ve eaten in there many times when I worked nearby. I agree with MacMasters comments about the efficiency of the staff there. Food always arrives quick and is good quality.👍
Hello to the cheeky boys! Glad your enjoyed your breakfast. Is it the best breakfast in the worlddddd? Can you compare that to the one in Keswick and I know you paid a small fortune for that with all local bought ingredients too.
