I agree with you. I don't understand why they make arguments and put other people's arguments against Hindu traditions, or anything related to hinduism. The Swaddle seems to be so much concerned about "Hindu Nationalism" which in reality is a hoax it's just being hyped by our media and in social media. Hindutva isn't what people think of it and how the media presents it. The concept of Hindutva is good for our country but, the media and some greedy intellectuals are hell bent on proving that it's bad for our country.

What i was even expecting with this video. Yoga has Hindu origins and it is a hindu practice. Yoga was came out from the shravana movement which later on divided into acetic hindus and Buddhism, which never been a part of caste system. People like you think the origins of yoga is ambiguous but it is not. It's like you eat Bhraminical Patriarchy for breakfast, Cast System for lunch and Hindutva for dinner. I personally take offense when some people call yoga hindutva nationalism. In today's climate, simply being hindu feels like offending others. I'm sorry I do not care that people are polarising yoga, I'm just a girl who connects with the God I believe in through it. It helps me mentally, physically and spiritually. On one hand people are getting mobbed because of yoga's hindu roots and on the other, the west is making yoga secular. I don't think you need to be hindu to practice yoga but denying its religious importance and roots is definitely problematic I also think you should use the term Hindu spirituality because that's what you mostly talked about.

If according to you yoga is considered to be a part of brahmanical hindu, so was studying, so was learning, India has come far from that. Earlier only brahmans were supposed to study but now everyone can. We cannot imply study to be brahmnanical just because 1000 years before only brahmans studied that. Overtime laws changes and so should our understanding of those things. We can't call one thing secular and other not.
Also what is wrong in commercializing or propogating spirituality. Obviously it shouldn't be to such an extend where motives become dangerous and I do agree the line between that is blurred. If we commercializing information and knowledge, like this channel, why can't people commercialize what they have.
Teachings of all religion should be propogated in a peaceful way. It's for people to decide whether they'll follow it or not. Islam , Christianity and all other religion have their scholar and teacher to extrapolate and propogate their religion and redings , then why not hindus?

Indian philosophy is probably the only ancient world philosophy that remained untainted. It is man made and thus has it's flaws. But it must have something in it that has fascinated great minds from various fields.. from a Mark Twain to a Niels Bohr!
Hindus (I am using this as an umbrella term for all dharmic philosophies) are literally the most successful community in Northern America, not only in terms of median household income but also due to the fact that they respect the local culture and have one of the lowest crime rates. All religious people are spiritual but not all spiritual people are religious. There is a difference that people don't understand.
India has over 5000 year old worth of history. This history has been so dynamic we have seen numerous belief systems and ideologies being birthed and then staying in this land. Naturally it has spread throughout the whole world.
India used to have trade with ancient Romans and Greek, India used to be close in trading to African nations and even Egypt that itself was a prosperous and spiritual civilisation had good connections with India. India traded with all of the Asia.
And it is not only the trade of goods. On those ships sailed people and their stories and ideas.
India has always been so diverse that spirituality blossomed here and hence also showed the world the light as well.
As someone spiritual let me tell you that no specific person is spiritual. Spirituality is not a thing. Spirituality is not associated with any religion, race or creed. We all as creatures are spiritual. We not human beings having spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having human experience. In my eyes everyone is equally Spiritual be it an athiest or be it anyone.
Spiritual journey is not a thing acc to me, you as a spiritual being whatever journey you take is spiritual. Your journey is unique to you just like everyone else. You can't teach sane syllabus to everyone when all are going to get a different question paper. Spirituality is not just soul it is the dance of mind, body and spirit. Spirituality is not an aspect, it is totality and beyond. Spirituality is self knowing itself in ownself and others. Then in my opinion spiritual and religious believes should not be force fed. It should be a conscious decision as what path one wishes to follow. Ofcourse, we should all have the right to share our knowledge and speak for our believes but they shouldn't be shoved down through anyone's throats. Let people be because spirituality is not about being something it is about being.

But everything has a good side too. The rise on Yog popularity has made Indians look again at their own Yog culture with more enthusiasm. There will be Indians who will prefer the westernised version of Yog but then there will be some people who will seek the real meaning of Yog and ensure to learn and continue the real essence of it.

You should be ashamed of calling yoga as "hindu nationalism", it's like calling gym and workout as "westernization of India". Ngl, hinduism is related to our country and our identity and we should be proud of it. If you don't like yoga don't do it, do not polarize people by labelling yoga as hindu nationalism or something used for saffronizing the country.

What the hell, Swaddle did not expect it from you. Hinduism or Spiritually or anything from Ancient India does not dictate how or what to do. It's all about just being happy and being at peace with ourselves.
Hell even most of the Hindus do what they want to do, no pressure of acting a certain way or doing a certain thing.
Every group of people promotes what their religion stands for, nothing wrong with it. Besides historically, India is a Hindu Country. There are a lot of countries which are religion specific. India is the home of Hindus, the only place where Hindus have their say (felt till a few days ago). Why should Sadhguru not promote Hinduism when all of this "exotic" lifestyle emerged from it.
Or is it that when something good happens from Hinduism it must be attributed to the whole of India, when a section of those people are spitting on the mere idea of Hindus and killing them in broad daylight.
Seems like it is not the black day for our supreme court only.

This video is hinting at the difference between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation. It is true that exchange of ideas and adopting what is best suited to your personal practices is a good thing. But there are two examples of appropriation pointed out here
    1. Appropriation of yoga by the west : Yoga finding many forms out of the westernization - hot yoga and the video of yoga where it was like a drinking game. If you are going to introduce all these changes that are not true to the origin of the system, call it something else and feel free to practice it. You cannot use the term yoga for marketing something that is so far removed from the origin just because it makes your business sound exotic.
    2. Appropriation of yoga for Hindutva: Yoga is an ancient practice of finding the mind-body-soul balance. It originated in vedic times where religion was based on nature and our relationship to the nature. The main gods of vedic times are different from Hindu gods. New religions evolve from pre existing ones all the time. People pick and choose what is best suited to them and make a religion out of it. So yoga is not related to only Hinduism alone. This video clearly talks of it's complicated origins. Also Hindutva is not equal to Hinduism. Hindutva is a political ideology where religious identity is merged into national identity. When the nation was built on secular ideology, Hindutva becomes an issue. The video only talks about the Guru having a hindutva ideolgy as being an issue. As a religious guru, one can try to propagate the ideas of their religion. But as a spiritual guru, propagation of a political ideology is against the very nature of being accepting of all religions.
I am not commenting on the Guru here. As the video says, it is a complicated thing. But the video has used the right words and pointed of some very relevant things.

    • @invisibleunicorn7041
      @invisibleunicorn7041 2 года назад +1

@@prekshamishra2091 when he talks about sanatana dharma, it is about a way of life. It is not necessarily related to a religion, but it does form the core of vedic and Hindu traditions. There are other belief systems which may not necessarily believe in this. He may describe himself as being agnostic. But when anyone calls the hindu way of life or Hindutva, the future (to which everyone should aspire to), they are demeaning or invalidating other belief systems (even if not by design or ill intent). And it also sends a message that this way of life is what makes you a part of this land as that is our original culture. That means that if I believe in the flying spaghetti monster or the invisible pink unicorn, I am not truly indian. I do listen to his discourses, I do like a lot of them. I just do not think the Hindutva rhetoric is appropriate (which does exist in his talk too). I am born into a South Indian Hindu family where the guru and his discourses are a regular food for thought. I am deeply entrenched in the vedic/hindu philosophy which sometimes is not necessarily based on Gods. But I also understand the position of privilege that I am in and where such a politically inclined rhetoric is not acceptable.
I know you have not brought up this topic of other countries where a core religious identity exists, but I would like to touch up on that topic by saying our country's basis is being secular. If anyone wanted to merge a belief system with national identity, they should have made the country like an exclusive club for certain ideologies only. We cannot build a home on all-inclusive principle and encourage different ideologies and then tell your child that if you think differently, you will no longer belong to this family. Please look at this from the point of view of the current political/communal situation.

Claiming Yoga for Hinduism, is kinda same as having Kawalis for Islam. It's a mere practice of keeping the body and mind healthy, by performing sets of exercises, which has thoroughly improved and researched throughout our rich history.
Yoga, as it has been culturally important and respectable for Hindus, are more able to be accepting towards it. Whenever it's somewhere before the International Yoga day arrives, we see how some Islamic Scholars claim it to be a Hindu thing, and so forbidden by them.
But if u take a step back and see what's really happening, what part of the people performing it, do u see are trying to do it for religious beliefs, and not for gaining Spirituality, Physical and Mental health benefits.

It's Sadhguru's choice whether to offer it for free or not. Also, he has been giving out free schooling, food, medical facilities in rural parts of India. So you can't blame him completely.

It's true Hindus take great pride in it since it originated there, but as a Brahmin Hindu myself i can attest that my family never asked me to practice yoga. They don't do it themselves. (My mom tried but gave up) I have never in my life heard anyone in my community treat Yoga as Brahmin Hindutva. Only the health conscious people ramble about it. Stop spouting nonsense.

what is wrong if the west loves it? hinduism and hindu scriptures are the eternal truth. so whether your hinduphobic arrse likes it or not, it is facts. glad yoga has gone to the world,as long as people acknowldge the hindu culture, meaning of the scriptures and Our Gods, there's nothing to be found fault with. swaddle these days its become a thing for you to contradict your own statements. here's a thing: sadhguru has done more for this world than any other leader has, i'd like to say he should be nominated for nobel prize. the savesoil movement is one of the reasons among the mILLION.
looks like you've also watched some silly bbc made documentary, but kindly shut your hypocrisy because it's getting annoying. Say things for what it is, your funding and leaning towards hypocrisy and one side is evident for those with a keen eye.
stop using sadhguru as a piece to fool around with in your thumbnail, he is a guru. an INSPIRATION, for many, clearky you can't take that, but i thought the left's "respecting people for their religious opinions" works here.
ftm not even gonna waste my time and watch this video for SOME KIND OF HYPOCRITIC bs you shall end up spewing anyway like"bindi is not hindu" no buddy. not anymore, done with your shiz. #byebyeswaddle

Although not the same, this reminded me of the annoyance and irony I felt when I was in my sister’s room and saw a Jesus prayer candle right next to an incense burner with a sculpture of Buddha. She also has Buddhist imagery all over her room while being “culturally Catholic.” She thinks being Latina justifies it, even though Christianity is a result of mesoamerican colonization.

Btw I do appreciate his efforts for Save the Soil movement and the attention he has brought to that cause. But I just can't take people thinking of him as some divine creature and how he claimed to have performed "exorcism" and stuff.

The video explains spirituality beautifully but I would like to point at 2 things in this video which seem weird . About yoga being used to saffronise india sound weird. Yoga is a complex yet easy process which touches many dimensions from healing and spirituality to exercise. It has been looked that way. Though the developers of this practice are hindus it shouldn't be put into limitations of religion as anyone can perform yoga irrespective of religion. It serves a different purpose. So yoga is not a way of saffronising india but rather promoting a healthy practice practiced for ages and creating awareness about it. And about isha yoga centre , it is not built on adivasi land. I am pretty sure it is a misunderstanding as swaddle wouldn't want to spread misinformation. And hinduism is not a religion ^_^

I completely agree with ending of the video, we Indians haven't marketed and owned our practices properly and west's adoption of Yoga and it's addition as a consumer service has made it more globally pervasive. However, I don't see the consumer aspect as a bad thing. Capitalism is the current Operating system of the world and faring well on would decide what survives and what doesn't. Osho's brand of spirituality completely impinged of materialism and paid less attention to abstract philosophies and was successful both in india and the west.
The reason perhaps we weren't at the forefront of controlling the market value of Yoga and Eastern Spirituality was bcz it is deeply rooted in religion here. The west dissociates from this and that gives them the right to experiment (or even appropriate as you rightly pointed out) with little backlash bcz you don't have to deal with religious or communal sentiments getting hurt if you've dissociated a practice from religion itself. For the US this would be right up their ally since the separation of church and state is something they take very seriously for the most part.

One could also question why suddenly being a vegetarian or a yoga practitioner or someone who follows and practices Indian arts is suddenly considered as someone who's trying to "saffronise" India? Ours is a country that has forgotten how what people now call hindu culture used to be simply a way of life for the people living in this part of the world. Teaching the current populace to own what is part of our culture and not view it from the western lense is not saffronising something. Why is it okay and cool to accept and assimilate other cultural practices but the moment you try to bring something back into your life that's remotely Indian your are suddenly saffronising something? And what the hell is saffronising? People didn't practice yoga before the ruling party into place? People weren't vegetarians or choosing to be vegetarian before them?
