    Fun experimenting. I do have Aussie Floetrol. I am in New Mexico and did not get the result I wanted. Aussie Flo sometimes does not even cause cells. I like cells but I am not over motivated to achieve just cells. I moved over to using Easycare untinted enamel paint high gloss. Parts of the country 11 dollars per pint. Great shine. So I will work on getting cells. I am more interested in developing flower gardens with the use of balloon kissing and fingerpainting. Some of the marine enamel is even cheaper. It is like you said----work with the level of product you can afford. For most of us it is a hobby. Trouble with holding onto the cells. I am going to thicken my paint slightly-I may be over spinning. Thanks for the video. I will try your recipe. Beautiful colorful pieces.

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  Год назад

      There were bad batches of the Aussie floetrol going around at one point where they were thinner some even like water. I’ve heard matte gel helps with that. It’s always been super celly for me, so much so I think I could use it with mud and get cells 🤣 but I totally understand about not always wanting or needing cells. Some pieces I’m more interested in the color, flow and movement than the cells. I’m glad you’ve found products that you like and work well for the art you are creating because ultimately that’s what it’s all about, and the fact you are having fun with it 🤗 💜🤗

    I definitely agree with you about the US floetrol producing amazing 3D cells. I haven't been able to get that with the Australian floetrol. All floetrol brands have their own neat reactions. I almost want to mix them together as a CA and see what happens. 🤔
    These are beautiful! Thank you for sharing! 😃

    • @ThePaintedDreamer

      Me either, I definitely like the US floetrol for certain looks and Aussie for others. I recall someone telling me they were running low on their Aussie floetrol so they mixed half and half with US and it worked well! Maybe give that a go 😃 .. I’m always wondering what else is out there that is a paint extender type medium that can do what the US & AUS can do .. you know for variety. If I find something else I’ll definitely post about it 🤗💜🤗

    If you can’t find these brands or are in a different country the components you want are an untinted base house paint (base c or d, base 3 or 4 whichever is lowest, deep base or ultra deep base or neutral base) plus a water based polyurethane gloss varnish to make up your Pouring Medium. If you want to try a more traditional pouring medium base because you can’t get certain components, TOTALLY go for it and give it a try 😃 it’s YOUR Art after all! 💜
    Also, if you aren’t able to obtain either the US or Australian floetrols, try other options for cell activator like Amsterdam paint & water mixed thin or even silicone , this is your art, have fun with it!! 🤗💜

    I’ve really enjoyed watching your tutorials Jodie, they’ve been full of great information. The cost of the paint can certainly make a difference in being able to afford it and here in Oz the 4 litre, which I think is your gallon? can be anything up to $64! I should say this is the cost of the recommended brand by members of the bloom technique here is Australia. I guess it’s worthwhile to experiment to see if there’s anything else out there? We can actually get sample pots at our local hardware store which makes it cheaper to buy and an excellent way to try out the technique. Love your pieces, they are just gorgeous 🥰💖😍 as always and the colours are wow factor! Keep up the experiments, I’m sure everyone is learning so much from them 💝💖💗

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  3 года назад +1

      Oh I’m so glad Bron, thank you!! I’ve tested a number of bases here now and the Infinity I was talking about it’s the most expensive so far. The average here for a gallon (which I think is like 3.8 liters) is between $25-$38 but then you have your pricier ones. That recommended brand I was able to get a 2L can of and have been testing it against my favorites here 😃. We can also get quart and tiny sample sizes of certain ones here but not all so that does help too. But really I just can’t help myself with experimentations 😂

    Hey Jodie 👋. Wow, wow, wow! Just gorgeous❣
    I wanted to tell you and forgot, about my little trip over to my itty bitty Ace Hardware. All they had was Valspar Optimus Flat Basic white paint & primer Interior. That's it in the Valspar line. And, it's $47.99 gal.
    Eeeeeeeeeek!! 😱😥
    You asked if I had tried the Clark & Kensington. I did. It was way back in the beginning of Shelee. Probably only a week after her course came out. Had not a clue what I was doing. 😅🤣😂 And the employee at Ace put them in the shaker. 😖 Who knew, right? I finally threw that base 3 or 4 away bc it still had a gazillion bubbles in it after a year!!!!!! 🤣

      Hi Jodie! 😃👋🏻 Yikes that’s pricy for the Valspar .. I do have quarts of both the Clark & Kensington Hi gloss and the semi gloss neutral bases from Ace. These I plan to test extensively next so I will do a miniseries on them probably in a couple months. I wasn’t fond of how they reacted with the jo Sonja, my cells kept slipping some and going wonky but I’ll be testing other varnishes as well but it definitely looks promising and they both dry really nicely so I would say give one or the other a go! I just haven’t figured out the magic combo with them yet is all. Thanks so much and I’ll certainly keep you updated my dear!! 🥰🌺🥰🌺

    got me some Valspar deep base C Simplicity ( sorry I really meant for the unintended harrasment of Jodie to end I SWEAR) I've watched this video i dunno 12 15 times just to see the WAY things LOOK. I used polycrylic again it didn't have 'water based' on its label but the guy at lowes said its EXACTLY the SAME product I have already. BUT I also have Varathane triple thick in case. you were SO RIGHT about Behr it WAS like OATMEAL compared to other paints. this Valspar is eco friendly like the boomerang i got on Amazon for my plow its a velvet finish and its beautiful.30$ FREE DELIVERY TOO so what do I NEED NOW???!!! so sorry....ok...I mixed the Valspar 3 to 1 made it NICE (and the Behr required me to constantly add more polycrylic which it why i ran out same time as the paint for PM) like what i was seeing here running off stick..a little thicker than YOUR Valspar Ultra But when I tried to mix the PM with simple artists loft (neon violet) its all CLOUDY got thick i had to add more PM then MORE polycrylic on its own AND ITS NOT AS dark as what the tube is..i mean did I screw up buying this c base simplicity paint or should I have used my Varathane then polycrylic to thin? or what will make the colour less light. its never happened. the only high flow I have left is Paynes grey from Golden but its not enough to mix...is the PM still salvageable? Again FORGIVE ME. when i watched this today I realized I had asked questions you sort of coverred about Behr and I missed that. I don't wanna waste it. I've done so much walking thru 3 mile long parking lots. I'm in overdraft HOWEVER if YOU tell go buy a quart of.....I WILL its the fact that I'm getting cool results, your videos are what got me this far. am I overreacting?? LOL I don't expect an answer right away!!! you have NEW awesome videos I have to watch so... if ANYONE in the comments CAN HELP i WILL accept it with GRATITUDE I hate bugging our teacher with this stuff. SO THX AGAIN.

      I’ve not used the Valspar Simplicity base c so I can’t really comment on it but if you mixed a color into it and it made it lighter that tells me there’s a bit more titanium in the base which happens even in the lower untinted bases some are crystal clear while others can have a creamish or whitish hue but yet the colors still dry nicely. So, my question to you is how did the colors dry when you used it? That’s ultimately what you want is your colors to dry nicely. If the paint mixture is thick thin it with some varnish or more PM or even a bit of floetrol or GAC 800. Tube paints can add thickness if you add too much and if you are in a cooler environment your paints will thicken up no matter what you do.

    • @bramstayer
      @bramstayer 2 года назад

      @@ThePaintedDreamer thanks again for replying, it DID dry just like the colour in the tube.I added more paint a little more but I'm having fun mixing things again. I made a cool swipe and put it up its hopefully NOT gonna crack. My LAST one did, It went from freezer to oven big mistake. I dunno if you're part of this heat blanket of 32°C but its such an extreme difference as the basement is LIKE a COLD ROOM some houses have where dad would store the beer or champagne.. chilly nice to sleep in with blankets as my nephew did last year, I made a whole spin area too outta cardboard!Big enough for those big ones like 2' by 3.. SOMEDAY I may wanna do that, I TRIED to paint outside but its just too hot. Usually we'd be complaining about still havimg snow so uugh LOL. The basement is GREAT but its ALSO a noisy gaming place when I'm not painting..SO this swipe is drying in the middle floor LOL...Once again thanks SO MUCH from the testing to the colour ideas, so many of us rely on your detail oriented mind to share this fun & beautiful artform that you have mastered so well.

    • @ThePaintedDreamer

      Thank you so much Barbara! Good question! The reason I don’t use a torch or heat gun are the ingredients involved are a bit sensitive. The pillow paint used scorches real easily and then the pouring medium combo with the untinted base paint and varnish is flammable and can be toxic if heated. 🤗💜🤗

Your pictures are so much prettier and vibrant than what im doing. Ive been using flotrol to mix my folk art paints and anxious to get started with the new combo..I think you mentioned how to thin it a bit...regular poly...no water?..Thanks in advance!..just overheard you wondering how much per gal. its $40 gal at lowes in nj

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  2 года назад +1

      Hi Elle, have fun with your new mix, you can thin it with more varnish or PM but if the PM seems to thick already stick to fluid paints. I had to switch to the regular Varathane varnish and not the triple thick because I’m winter my paints were just too thick. You can also add GAC 800 or even some US floetrol to thin but the floetrol will add a bit of matteness to your paints so keep that in mind 🤗

      Hi Isabelle, you’re very welcome I’m glad it helped. Since you are outside the US you may need to do some experimentation to find alternatives to what I use as mine are local to me. I had to do this myself when I first to the sheleeart course as all the ingredients she used were Australian. It’s part of why I started this channel, to help those here in the US but also give everyone else a high level of each component so they can experiment with what they can get locally that will be suitable for them. This is going to be long but below are the components at their basic level:
      Pillow Paint - This is your “base” paint that floats your other color. You want a low sheen (eggshell or Satin but not flat) white interior wall paint. Or, if you have something else that works well for you, try it out.
      Pouring Medium Mix - Consists of two components:
      1. Untinted gloss house interior paint (can be semi-gloss, gloss or high gloss). Untinted means no color has been added and will usually be a Base C or D or Base 3 or 4 or Deep Base/Ultra Deep Base or Neutral Base (all depending on your brand). Get the lowest it goes, you want the base to be as clear as possible.
      2. A Water based Polyurethane Gloss Varnish. Can be from your local hardware store or an artist grade from an art store.
      The two pouring medium components above are mixed together to create your pouring medium. At what ratio will depend on the thickness (consistencies) of your two components. Typical ratios are 2:1 or 3:1 (untinted base:varnish). Adjust up or down accordingly
      Cell Activator: Australian floetrol and an acrylic paint work the best. Other floetrols (US & Owatrol) can work with adjustments and/or other ingredients mixed in. Experimentation will be needed with anything other than Australian floetrol. Amsterdam paint & water only has been known to work also.
      Also, check out video #36 it’s a beginners tutorial of this technique and I kind of give an overview of what I said above as well.
      Hope this helps 💜

    I did a 20” x 20” canvas last night. I put several drops of CA on the paint and blew it with my tiny blower. I did not use pillow paint with the exception of flooding my canvas with white paint. The colors had US Floetrol in them and the CA was made with Aussie Floetrol. I got lots of cells - tiny cells. I had to work with the painting a long time to make it look right. The cells you get look really huge, but I have to remember your canvas is much smaller. I like my painting but not in love. It was extremely difficult to spin this size of canvas and it was level 3 so it was heavy. Is there any chance you could measure a few of the cells on your paintings? I would like to know if I’m close on my technique. Have you ever tried this on a larger, heavier canvas? BTW love your tutorials and your results. But cut the shit. What else is added to the cell activator because what you are telling us is in there, is not everything. You're thinning the Floetrol with something to get it as fluid as you do because if not, its just as easy to add cheesecloth to the quart bottle and pour directly from the container as opposed to pre mixing it into a ketchup bottle labeled Floetrol. And have you done a video on how you mix your fluid colors and pigments? Im interested to know what else is added to those mixtures that is not mentioned when you're mixing off camera.
