  • Today I have a basic Wargame Red Dragon infantry guide for you. I have spent quite some time debating how much detail to put in this one, hopefully it has reached a good balance of giving newer players some hints and tips while not being too long a video.
Infantry in Wargame Red Dragon is a big topic and you could easily spend hours talking about it in detail, I have covered the types of units, the general best uses for each type and what their training level means (Militia, Regular, Shock, Elite). And thrown in some other hints and tips about infantry and their transports.
At some point I may attempt to put together a gameplay montage of infantry in the field showing various other uses and strategies.

Great Video! A thing to add is that for example Light Riflemen have pretty low AP value which disables using it as buffed AT squads.
Also could have covered Strength as its an easy thing and a good thing to notice as I didnt realise for absurd amount of time that engineers are in 5 men squads.
I hope some people will learn from this vid because its great!

Since most of the time they also come exclusively in helicopters its quite obvious that they are intended to have a role in the opening of the game only. The low AP also supports that role, since this is enough to kill transports and slow the enemy down.

Following up with mortar fire in those safe spots in town after the barantino napalm might have some good effect :)
Bunch them all up in those safe spots then follow up with more ordinance while they are all grouped up.
Great video. Some great tips in here and you have a great speaking voice for youtube.
Sub and updoot. Hope you're still doing vids for Red Dragon.

I'm new to this game. Been playing for a week and I can't seem to get my head wrapped around it. So for now I skirmish and get my ass kicked Everytime.

Honestly the AI is a bit hit and miss, in the campaigns I found it easy to cheese, though its been years since I tried a skirmish.
My advice would be to try playing some multiplayer games (which I know is the wrong way around for most games).
Go for 10vs10 games, specifically tactical games these are ones with 5000 ish points, that means each player gets 500. It allows you to put down a small force and learn to use a focused group of units well.
There are some servers that run the Mud Fight map all the time, this is a good place to learn as you can be starting on either side of the map and have the same/similar approach game after game till you get it right.
Anna (The forest side of the map) is great for learning infantry combat supported by vehicles. Fedor at the other side is a good place to learn advanced Tank management and longer range open field warfare. The middle of the map is a killing zone and very hard to push across, that's why its mostly just a defended frontline until one of the sides falls.
Its a map that is also just big enough to learn basics of air combat and careful artillery use (aka move it after firing).
The other option is throwing yourself more in the depend with something like 4vs4s but that will mean managing many more units and covering more of the map. Often by people who are teamed up.

Hello, it is indeed a very basic decent video about infantry. Though, couple notes:
    1. Light infantry (you have showed legion and light riflemen units) are not about AT capabilities. They run faster then their counterparts of standard infantry. For example, French RIMA runs at speed of 25 kmh with Shock training level. French Commando-Marine elite infantry runs 30 kmh. Legion runs at speed of 30 kmh as well despite being Shock.
    2. Fire support squads are not limited to RPG's. There could be low-range ATGM launchers (Dragon from Light riflemen, Eryx launcher), AGL's (say hello to AGS-17) or recoilless rifles. All of the mentioned weapons (including RPG's) have HE damage, which is unusual for RGP's, for example. SO use them not as core infantry, but as assisting tools to your rifle squads.
    3. I commonly notice that people cannot properly pronounce Motostrelki word. It is common mistake not for Bandanner, but for many English-speaking people in general. You see, some people pronounce it as "MotoStreltSki", which is incorrect. There is no second S sound, it is only one S sound in the word. The word itself is combination of words "motorized" and "strelki". First is easy to understand, second one can be literally translated as "men who shoot". So please pay attention. I understand that Russian is a foreign language and it is hard to pronounce, but believe to Russian speaker: this is a simple word, just put in 1 second of your thoughts in pronouncing so popular word in the wargame RD)

Yes very basic other wise I could have spent an hour talking about line infantry alone, I really struggled with how much detail to go into on this one. Infantry is probably the most versatile unit type in the game. Each sub section feels like a unit type of its own. ATGM, MANPADS, Special Forces etc could fill an entire video of their own, much like Tanks or helicopters do.
      1. This is very true they are also fast, though that does not apply to all the "light riflemen" squads such as the Gornostrelki who are only Regular. I think most people tend to use them more for their longer ATGM range than for their speed (especially when it comes to the USA due to lack of inf based ATGM). But they are effective for chasing down enemy units on the run in forests and can hold their own in in inf to inf combat.
      2. This is very true and I realised after I uploaded the video I failed to mention the HE damage component, though hopefully I stressed the point they should be used to support other troops. As alone they get wrecked.
      3. You know I honestly don't know why we say it with a "Ski" at the end, it does not even read like that, I think I have just heard other people say it and copied them. SORRY! One day you will teach me to say all the Russian names ;)

Please dont do that often in multiplayer) your militia infantry cannot kill anything (except accidently), they have poor transport choices and they do not solve your problems on the battlefield. I suggest watching educating videos, read guides or find any experienced players, who is willing to help you with advises

    • @Bandanner

It can be a hard game to get into, the AI play very differently to real people, I suggest trying multiplayer there are likely still "noob" or new player games listed with others learning how to play. 10 vs 10's tactical and otherwise are also a good place to learn as even if you are slow/struggle other people can pick up the slack usually.
