    Marb, maybe you should settle ON TOP OF THE INCENSE, think about it:
    It's a desert tile, so when you improve it, it still won't give you any food.
    That way you could potenially work the entire area north of the mountain range, except for one sheep tile.

    Main advantage of the canal city on the southern flat desert tile will be that you can actually recruit a fleet in London and Nottingham without going ~5 turns around the continent. I'd say that's worth giving up one fish tile for, but it's a bit of a gamble whether there's something like oil or aluminium in the desert.
    The easternmost flat desert tile you hovered over near the end doesn't get you the fish either, so you could either settle on the incense (which wouldn't be terrible), but that does lose you the sheep. I'd settle the canal city.

      clickaccept I am currently exploring going wide when the opportunity presents itself (lots of empty space and not too many neighbors). In the 3 games i played thus far this way i got(in all) the most production when i entered medieval era and that is just amazing. Happiness is an issue, but the liberty policy of happiness from city connections does help a lot(essentially paying only 2 unhappiness per city), when happiness starts to go into the negatives, i usually lock growth temporarily where it is not neccessary(more than 4 citizens early game), but i am still a total noob in playing wide. I am playing on Immortal though, so it might not apply to deity.
      PS: you also have to take the right civ to make things a bit easier, i wouldn't want to try going wide with Spain for example, china is a good civ on the other hand.
      PPS: As i struggled with Gold due to building and road maintenance I went Liberty -> Commerce and finished commerce before further working on rationalism(took the opener) and i noticed that landsknechts are amazing and the last policy gives ideology levels of happiness which completely eliminated any problems i had with it(2 per luxury means with 10 luxuries 20 happiness omg), also big ben is awesome and usually uncontested.

    • @kismacska23
      @kismacska23 9 лет назад

      Mr Anderson007 In my experience, Protectionism is still not enough to save you from the perils of overextension. You need about +10 happiness right before you grab an enemy capital. If you are around 0 because you settled more than 4 cities, it will just keep you afloat. Same goes for the extra hammers. What good are they, if they are all spent on colosseums and zoos? And if for whatever reasons (2 free tenets are pretty good reasons) you don't accept the most popular ideology, and get dissidents, or God forbid revolutionary wave, it will be your only chance for survival. You don't want to waste it just so you can settle 4 more weak cities, that can arm 4 more obsolete regiments with low XP every 10 turns or so.
      Or let me put it this way: do you want 10 average cities and 7 opponents, or 6 solid cities, 2 of them former capitols with wonders and 5 opponents?

  • @Piratewaffle43
    @Piratewaffle43 9 лет назад +9

    Even if you settle just left of the incense, the fish doesn't appear to be in range. As others have already said, I might settle on the incense, but you would lose cattle and sheep for the fish, and i'm not sure I would be willing to lose the production even with all the hills available. Tough choice.

  • @smocozaur

    I would 100% settle on the incense. You'll lose the fish if you settle tot he west. However, if you don't settle next to the ivory, Attila will grab that tile with his city, and you won't be able to settle there at all anymore. So I think you should either recruit another settler ASAP or just settle the location with the ivory first. Attila can't settle to the north of you, since he can't pass until he gets astronomy or if you give him open borders, which you won't. So there you have it. Cheers!

    Marb the non-canal city WILL NOT give you that fish, you will need to settle on the incense or give up the coast to get that tile.

  • @azera55555

    There is no real downside in having the canal city because you are not in range of the fish tile east, and the cattle tile east that you lose you regain it from the cattle northwest

  • @naitnait00
    @naitnait00 9 лет назад

    I would probably settle the hill because it gives one fish and one camp(although on tundra). The other locations will not get you the fish regardless and it overlaps with cattle tile that your other city would probably work. However you will miss out on one pasture if you settle on the hill, but the fish tile is far superior.

  • @AlwinDark
    @AlwinDark 9 лет назад

    I agree with Mega Necrophobe about settling on the Incense, also, the Desert tile you are looking at settling on DOES NOT GET THE FISH (also spotted by azera55555 I see).
    Alternatively, the Desert Hill Canal tile since it would get a Fish to the North and a Cattle and a Deer, as well as the Copper, Incense and Iron.
    I'm sure you'll make the best call. You usually do :)

    You should Settle the canal city, because either way you'll lose the fish on the north east, and you will get two cattle tiles (eventually). So, the canal city or the canal city is pretty similar.

    Hi marbozir and the followers, England is one of the strongest civ, i expect it will be a domination victory. Conquer two capitals with longbowans (+one range is extremly powerfull). Then conquer one capital with ships of the line. At the end convert ships of the line into battelships and destroy every A.I.'s in your path to victory.

    Hi Marbs. I suggest building that canal city you mentioned. The pasture to the south will be taken by york (and since it has low food output it will need all it can get. The canal city will have iron, insense to the east, copper to the south AND deer, fish pasture to the north. And build on the moutain.
    EDIT: You also can get a second copper luxury for sale (marked dark green). i.imgur.com/Gqy2nbh.jpg

  • @botchamaniajeezus
    @botchamaniajeezus 9 лет назад

    I would settle the canal city, cause what if a huge navy came from either side of the continisland (whatever it is we're calling it these days) and you had to spend another 3 or 4 turns going around the landmass, when that extra 2-3 turn could be used defending yourself. But in the end it's your desicion.

      I think they could play almost on par, depending on starting location ofcourse, up until they have a war. Marbozir is a great general and almost always gets the maximum out of his units on every turn. As well as his use of flanking bonuses, terrain flaws, zone of control and thinking multiple turns ahead. Watch his Japan LP where he gets attacked early on by an Impi carpet of doom.

    canal city vs next to incense city:
    with canal city, you will lose a cattle. the worst possibility, attila might settle on the tiles out of your city range.
    on top of the incense city makes a little sense but sheep and cattle at the north will be out of range. but you'll get the fish.
    is canal city really necessary? your island is not that big and your movement point is OP.

    Why not work on the farm for four turns before assigning the worker to work on the stone? You don't lose the work on the farm and could therefore finish it quicker in the future instead of just giving the worker a few turns of holiday.

He's on his own continent, well with the mountains he's on a very large island. ***** Its not a series issue though its only a 5% bonus, early on that's not much and the fact that he is an ideal situation to develop and conquer is much better then the 15-30 extra science he could have gotten along with the threat of war and lack of resources/land and diplomatic obligations etc...

    • @MISTAKEWASMADE4live

      ***** True but he has a fair bit of water separating him from Attila and with his natural naval dominance and how bad AI is when it can't corral their units into you're city when water come into play means that he is actually better off using just archers with the water separation then with composite in open land, although for Marb this isn't the case as he will get composite bows eventually.

    but i encounter something weird during that game, can i ask you something ?
    first, my neighbour is german, but he's on another island (but really close island, like 6-7 hex away from my island) and he sent a settler my way
    i dont want him to settle city near me, so i declare war and capture settler (this happen around turn 50 on standard speed)
    after that, he offer a peace treaty and he want me to give all of my gold + resource to him, so i decline and try normal peace later, he didnt accept
    the war continue til around turn 250, he never accept my peace offer
    not sure why, he didnt even damage my city (he sent a few unit, all dead even before they can reach my city)
    and i was busy deal with rome,france so i didnt even care about him
    question is, why did he not accept peace at all ? it kinda annoying because near his island there's a fish but it's in my territory which i wanna use, but i cant
