  • Matthew frames out the addition. Starting with floors, moving up through the walls (doors+windows), ceiling joists and roof rafters. Don't miss this episode where we actually begin the building process!
    Also, sorry for my extremely excessive use of the word convenient. Even I was annoyed with myself.

    My friend in Luxembourg does RUclips videos of her decluttering her house. They are very calming to watch. In the same way, I find it relaxing to watch your scurrying around at warp speed timelapse building your house! Another great video, Matthew! Well done. I hope you get lots more help with the other building phases in the future! Stay Safe and God Bless!

    Never thought I would be so interested in watching someone built a house, but I'm just fascinated. No idea what mistakes you made - might notice if you left the roof off!!! All the best and take care.

    See two major differences between building in America, and in the UK, frame built is very rare here, almost all houses have at least the outer walls in block and brick, Timber framing, if used is either SIPS, or modular pre built units. The other one, there are building site regulations, these would include, site security, temporary fencing around to keep children out, PPE, safety shoes, hard hat, high Vis jacket, eye protection, ear protection. Ladders are not used to work from, access only, scaffolding or a platform lift, list goes on. Does not mean a better quality of building , just less chance of injury.

      Yes, those things are all required for employers (ie. Company's/contractors who would be building) under osha regulations, but almost none of that applies to individuals. As a DIYer there is no one looking for for me!
      Not working from a ladder is an interesting thing though - I hadn't even considered not working from a ladder, because that is the only way I've ever seen this kind of work done. The time it takes to set up/move scaffolding to various locations would be really difficult.
      Thanks for the thoughts!

      Schaefer Family Adventure here in the UK there are two set of regulations health and safety at work act, that does not cover diy’ers and construction site regulations that does. In Industry in the UK if caught working from a ladder as an employee this would be classed as gross misconduct, and likely would be dismissed, if a contractor would be off site and barred from returning.

    Hi Matthew.
    That's particle board not plywood! :-)
    I'm not used to that type of construction so won't comment but I screwed my floors in ever six inches to stop flex as I was laying large marble tiles on the floor after. Can't wait to see how you finish the outside of the walls.

      Haha, true! I use the terms interchangeably, but technically it is osb, not ply!

    Heard you talk about local regulations for construction, but not healthy and safety. Are health and safety regs (e.g. PPE) mainly for construction companies and less so for private/self-builders?

    • @SchaeferFamilyAdventure
      @SchaeferFamilyAdventure  3 года назад +1

      Yes, we have OSHA standards, but it only applies to people who are employed. We have literally zero regulation for individuals that I am aware of.

    Hi Matthew.
    Getting a bit worried now with the gap in posting.
    Hope you are all well and it's just the amount of work that's delaying videos.
