    Okay. The video was perfect ! Was able to follow along and start making drinks. And 🤯. I cannot believe the quality of the drinks ! We like more of the cappuccino / macchiato type drinks. I’m seriously impressed. Coming from a Breville Barista Express we had for 5-ish years. Tasted coffee in several other countries as well. I’m not a connoisseur of coffee but I can appreciate a good cup. I ❤ this machine !

      Hey joel, Thanks for the comment sharing your experience! The Accademia remains our daily super-auto driver here in the studio. Still making the best espresso (for my Americanos) I've ever had from a bean to cup machine.

    In setting mine machine up, I experienced the same power issues you were having at around the 6:00 minute mark. The cord going into the machine is quite finicky. Put the machine where you want it first, then plug in the cord to the wall and then finally into the machine. then the power will stay on.

    is there a "reset" for the grinder after you change bean type to "re-learn" or do you have to go through the 6 shot process again. thanks !

      Hi joey, no reset button. Unless you do a huge bean type change like from less dense darker roast to very dense lighter roast the machine will relearn very quickly - if it even needs to at all.

    AMAZING and very informative. Thank you. I am looking to get a new super automatic and am really debating between the Z10 and the Accademia. Which one would you recommend? your help is greatly appreciated.

      Hi z, well there is a very significant price difference between them! Both are excellent machines. My advice is to compare the features of each. For example the Z10 has larger capacities so you'll be emptying used coffee and filling water reservoir less often. It also has the cold extraction process that makes a true cold brew. But if you don't drink cold brew maybe that's not important. Since the updated Accademia was released nearly 2 years ago it's been my daily driver in the studio - and I could be using a Z10 instead. The reason? Espresso important to me. The Accademia has more (and the most of machines I've used) control of the espresso brewing process allowing me to make the best espresso I've ever had from a consumer level automatic machine.

    My only dislike of this machine is the fact there’s no coffee pot mode. How would I get round this? Would it fill a pot just on the Americano mode? ❤

    What is the maximal cup height which will fit? I have an older Gaggia Platinum that I have to remove the drain pan to place a tumbler. Often, I’ll just want a tumbler of coffee on my way out the door to work. It’s nice to brew directly into the tumbler.

      Hey Dad, Max cup height is 6.5" under the coffee spout and 5.6" under the milk carafe spout. I brew daily into a 6" travel mug on the Accademia. Hope that helps.

    My biggest concern, and I keep hesitating purchasing, is how HOT the milk is poured. I bought a refurbished Jura, and it was very disappointing, and had to return it. These machines seem to put out luke-warm milk at best so if there is one you can say really provides a reasonable hot end product I'd like to know the options to try out before I purchase.

      I have the Gaggia Accademia, and the milk from the automatic frother is not very hot at all. It is a major downside. The nice thing is you still have a traditional steam wand. The only automated steam wand I've encountered that actually makes the milk hot is the one you see on some of the Breville machines like the Oracle Touch, but that's not a true 'superautomatic' system.

    Hi, excellent video. May I ask if the Accademia is compatible with mushroom coffee beans? Also I like dark roast beans, but you were stating that it blocks the grinder because it can be oily. If the grinder is cleaned as it's shown in one of your videos is the dark roast still not suitable for it? Thanks again for your excellent videos.

      Hey g, you're welcome and thanks for the comments and questions. Honestly not sure about the mushroom coffee beans - if anything other than beans in the mix I'm guessing it's best to avoid. There are dark roast beans which are less oily than others. If less than ~25% coverage with surface oils then you should be good to go. Cleaning the grinder helps and there are products like SuperGrindz made for that purpose: www.wholelattelove.com/products/urnex-supergrindz-super-automatic-grinder-cleaner

    Is there a water line kit option for the Accademia? I have water valve option at my countertop and could run a direct line and not have to ever refill the tank.

      Hi B, Sorry no direct waterline kit for Accademia or any other super-automatic we carry. I've seen a couple in the past but all were discontinued due to risk of overflow flooding.

    Just had mine delivered and setup. The machine won’t pull milk out of the carafe for milk drinks. It just has steam coming out of it. Manual doesn’t state the problem. Any ideas how to fix the issue? Thank you

    Looks like the water reservoir isn't very large? Add a filter to it and how much water is in it?

      Hi g, reservoir capacity is rated at 54oz w/o filter. A dry filter displaces 5.8oz but holds about 2oz internally so wet displacement is 3.8oz. Reservoir capacity with in use filter is about 50oz.

    Hi, I am hesitating to buy this machine because of the size of the drip tray, which needs to be emptied after 4 drinks, and the reservoir. I heard that Gaggia is working on an extension for the drip tray. What do you think about these concerns? Thank you!

      Hi a, I don't remember if I mentioned in this video but the Accademia has been our daily driver in the studio for about 1.5 years now. We have over 1,200 brew cycles on the machine. I've used just about every bean to cup automatic available in North America over the last 12 years and could choose any as our daily driver. It's my all time favorite machine. There are machines with larger drip trays and reservoirs. Emptying after 4 drinks is more frequent than what I experience. It depends on the drink types being made but for me it's been more like 8 brew cycles.

    How do you remove beans from the grinder since the grinder is not removable?

      Hi j, thanks for the question. You would need to scoop out manually. From there, run a couple of brew cycles until machine gives "add beans" message.

      It's okay to use non-dairy milks in these machines. Frothing is generally very good but you may find some brands perform better than others. The Accademia, with 4 levels of froth density control may be able to tune to a better froth than the Magenta in the video which has no density control.

    I am having an issue with getting rich espresso from this machine I have probably pulled about 20 shots so far. Are there any tips to getting a more concentrated shot?

      Hi gp, Thanks for your patience for my response - been OOO and offline for a bit. Perhaps you've worked it out by now but here are my tips:
      Initial shots from most automatic machines tend to be on the weak side as the machine dosing adopts to the beans you are using.
      Tips specific to the Accademia:
      1. Use the finest grind setting for espresso - you can back off if needed
      2. Use the "Boost" Strength setting. Machine automatically runs a second grind cycle and keeps total shot volume the same.
      3. Decrease the shot's liquid volume.
      4. Turn the flow control fully clockwise to increase the flow rate restriction.

    When do you use the grease tube?

      Hi user, the grease is used to lubricate the tracks of the brew unit in the machine. See page 44 in the manual for all the details. At 1-5 beverages per day it should be lubricated every 4 months. 6-10 beverages every 2 months. More than 10 a day lube once a month. Hope that helps!

      The brew groups are interchangeable between the old and new versions of the Accademia. There may be a slightly different look at the top of the unit water inlet but it works.

      Hi l, yes. Use the boost function on the Accademia's strength setting. That automatically grinds a second time to get you to true double shot coffee dose and beyond. More info on that in our full Gaggia Accademia review video: ruclips.net/video/jZWS38_Jge4/видео.html

      Hi mike, No it does not but it significantly extends time between descaling. I use Accademia daily in studio. In long term test with no filter and water hardness of 2 on test strip it was 533 brew cycles until machine requested descale. Using filter would likely increase brew cycles by 50% or more.

      Hi a, Thanks for the question. Reliability is similar between the machines. It's not unusual for our tech shop to see 15,000+ brew cycles on the previous version of the Accademia. One thing to note, the internal brew unit is removable in the Accademia. Brew units in Jura machines are not. They don't have issues very often but maybe more peace of mind knowing you can remove and service or replace if ever needed. Biggest factor in reliability is performing routine maintenance.
