Boy has my favourite vehicle changed! Had a YJ, then my wife and I have a JK Sport S 2 Door and a 2020 JL 2 Door Sport. Evolution on these vehicles is so noticeable just from 10 years ago lol!
Europe and England have created almost all the motoring icons and the genres from which they spring, but America is the birthplace of the most renowned offroader. As with the contemporary Land Rover Defender, if some boutique manufacturer made these classically simple CJ17s from scratch again, I'm not sure they wouldn't have enough of a retail base to make a good profit.
"workhorses" that is exactly what I am missing today, when every 4x4 is supposed to be just an overpriced, somehow more "capable" SUV... intended to be used to "have fun" and not primarily "to work". I would really welcome a true workhorse, without unnecessary gadgets and "luxury"!! (today the only option is to restore an old vehicle or refit a military vehicle)
Wow!..a trip into the past...would love to have all 3 of these...when I get done with my 82 wagoneer, it's going to look more like a Willys truck..and a little like an M715.

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO TELL YOU . . it's pronounced WILL - ISS, Not Willies! ( I do love these old films- I can watch 'em all day and leave the television OFF! )
The man that founded the Willys companyy pronounced his name Willis and old TV commercials pronounced it the same. But this is America. If enough educated people mispronounce or misuse words, the mistake becomes correct.
You're right, there never was a guy named "Willy" who invented the Jeep, his name was John Willys, an alternate spelling of "Willis." But so many people say it like "Willy's" nowadays that it's almost become a moot point.
The people that say it wrong, and weren't alive back then, will not be convinced of the truth of it. My parents and grandparents and aunts and uncles, that were born in the depression, that's the late 20s depression, and before, always pronounced it will-iss. This long ad kinda confirmed it. Btw I had a 52 4wd wagon with the hurricane flat head 6.
theres a reason the GI's chose the Willys Overland model over Ford and Bantam, solid engineering. and theres a reason almost a century later theyre STILL GOING. I love mine, kicks my amateur a$$, but its a passion, hobby, and what a rumbly Hardnose beastly emotion that occurs when behind the wheel..

Thanks for posting, ive been fortunate to have a few Jeeps but my HEART is with the pre war 1937 thru, 1941 trucks & coupes & the last two the 1946 to 63 wagon truck & the late 60's Gladiator trucks , ive had the 40, truck but still in search of the wagon & Gladiator, when I, was younger all the older men had these Gladiators 4x4 trucks & you wouldn't believe Hunting in the Florida Woods they would go ANYWHERE !!!! & of COURSE most of these old guys I speak of where a dying breed of World War 2 Vets So, they were used to relying on the Jeep to take them there & bring'em Home.. So, my Hats off to both the Jeep in all forms & the Vets of Our COUNTRY , They both have More than Earned their Right to set at Our Country's Table & their Both American Made !!

Willys was never defunct and actually their sales were very high.....Kaiser purchased them in 1953 and in 1963 the name was changed to Kaiser -Jeep Corporation. They had production facilities around the world.

this video proves the willys name is pronounced willeez and not willis. after kaiser bought jeep, they started calling it willis. it was never willis until kaiser took over. im so sick of the speech police telling everyone to change history to suit their misinformation, all the soldiers in ww2 knew it was willeez, so let the speech police keep quiet
Willys himself pronounced it Willis. The soldiers also called their rifle Ga-Rand even though he pronounced his name Gerend. Just because it’s a common misconception doesn’t make it any less of a misconception. People get way to bent around the axles on stuff like this people don’t even pronounce everything the same way today. I think the Willys company actually started changing the pronunciation themselves after the war to capitalize on the misconception. Before the war they made cars of a similar quality to mercury. After the war they were torn between returning to making entry level luxury cars (they did briefly with the Aero) or to try to capitalize on their war reputation with recreational and utility vehicles. That side obviously won out and the Willeez pronunciation fits better with that kind of marketing as many soldiers recognized it and it is more fun to say so fits better with the youthful recreation marketing. But that’s all just my guess.

That PTO was so useful. Their flathead engines made a surprising amount of torque. Great combination.
Old time advertising for what was arguably the best all around vehicle available. Thanks for sharing.
My first truck ....I'm 57 and now have 8 jeeps ...thankyou willys overland...

Wish I could find a FOUR DOOR station wagon from this era!
some of that equipment would literally break & bend a Jeep in half!
now if i can find a local willys jeep dealer......!! LOL
It’s a very versatile jeep for sure
"Jeepers that's just what I need!"
Jeepers Creepers
I won’t never let my Willys pick up die, even if parts are unavailable in my country (Honduras).
well said buddy, well said
Still a useful vehicle type today!
Heck, that wagon's basic concept and proportions is quickly becoming the default car.
Especially in thePhililppines.. there is always the Jeep and Jeepneys
Today’s Jeep is nearly worthless since Chrysler took it over. I’m sorry to say that they spend more time in the repair shop than on the road.

This is well thought of. Aren't SUtilityV's supposed to be like that? Why don't we have those on our SUVs nowadays? Nobody thinks like that anymore?

Yes, Mahindra makes them in India. The have one available in the US but its bigger and a cross between a cj5 and a cj7. Diesel though
cj 500 also@@CentennialMotoringServices
Now you have to buy a Mahindra Roxor to get this toughness
