@@aleg2716 Baez can win Roland Garros if he sets it as a goal, it is really the most important tournament where he has the best chances due to his conditions. Later in the process he has to be more regular, try to be less predictable, improve his serve and vary his shots more.
Both are great players, but Jarry has a huge height advantage which results in a great serve. Moutet has a huge disadvantage since he looks 2 foot shorter than the average player these days; very skilled.
I watched Moutet live in Rio twice last week. Q2 against Puccinellli and R32 against Baez. He used this serve plenty of times against both and it never worked. Also, he is a very tempered player. He complains all the time, throw rackets towards the net, yells to his coach etc. I have to admit it is very entertaining. He is having a great week in Santiago.
If you haven't watched Moutet's timely and sincere speech at the end of the match, I recommend you check it out. He was right on the money & managed to win over the crowd in the end. It made me think about all of the vitriol Shelton receives online from haters who neither know nor care about how beloved he is on tour, how much people respect his talent, and the work Bryan has done to raise such a grounded young man. I'm all for having fun with wordplay & shading the players sometimes, but at the end of the day, tennis is a game meant to entertain and unite. Let's have fun & enjoy their work. No need to call for player's heads and disregard their efforts just because they're playing against your faves. Everyone loses on tour. No one can win all the time.
Moutet played well but the match was mainly due to Jarry who lost the match due to his unforced errors. I think Tabilo will beat Moutet since he is not as erratic as Jarry.

I didn't even realise Moutet was still playing. But he did well to beat Jarry. The celebrations are a bit over the top, though. I feel bad for Fils - something is just not clicking at the moment. But man, that court where Fils and Martinez played looks rough.
I think Fils definitely could have won this match. He is obviously the more talented player. All Martinez did was just play great defense. I think Fils needs to work on strategy and having a better game plan. Maybe hit more drop shots and bring Martinez into the net more or something. Obviously he needed to hydrate more. Shouldn’t be cramping after 2 sets. Great effort though by both guys.
Really?.. isn t it just tha the courts are faster due to altitude?, its well know tha Santiago courts are fast, similar height oever the sea as Madrid.
The South American clay courts are notorious for bad bounces. All of them have had issues during the swing: Cordoba, BA, Rio, & Santiago. That's one of the reasons the top players just wait for the better constructed European clay courts. Plus, the equatorial conditions in Central & Latin American are more arduous to play in unless you're from there.
Moutet loves the villain role and truly thrived in it, getting that extra bit of energy to take out the erratic defending champ.
There's a fine line between villain and jackass, and he seemed to be straddling it today.
