I was born in Kitzingen and worked for the Americans in Harvey and Larson Barracks. Some might know me from the gym in Larson barracks, but I've also fixed many GI's cars at Harvey Barracks AAFES garage.

Well how the hell are you?? Wow, Kitzingen was a great place! I have plenty of pictures of Kitzingen when I lived in Larson Barracks. At that time (1982), they were going to close down Harvey Barracks. I guess it took about 7 years to do that. I hear many of the buildings are still there.

I spent 1 year there in 1967 and 1968. Was in the Battery B 3/76 artillery first barracks on right when entering the main gate. The german maintenance man for the building used to throw beer up to the first floor window in our room. Then was sent to Vietnam for reasons we won't discuss. Ended up in an infantry unit, oh hell!

Our AK or warehouse was across the road and also next to the golf course. Kind of looked to me like right where that new building you called the new EM club is now. What a flashback!

Really? I haven't been there since 1982 and I can tell you, you make the right to go to Harvey Barracks. I have pictures of that road going up to Larson Barracks. Wow, what a trip down memory lane. Thanks for this! It really makes me miss Germany, you know. I was there from Feb. 1981, where i was in Harvey Barracks, right across from the theatre and ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, which was ALWAYS BUSY, to July 1982! LOL! I remember seeing, IF YOU DON'T STOP IT, YOU'LL GO BLIND, for the first time and laughing my ass off! I made a deal with the manager. I said i would clean the theatre after watching the movie, and i did! It was worth it! I also met someone from LIVERPOOL ENGLAND in Harvey Barracks! Don't ask me how he got there, but I was listening to the Beatles (naturally) and he happened to hear it and came in. He said he lived about one mile from where the Beatles lived! Some really crazy times, I have to tell you! The funniest story I have to tell is when one of my roommates, from Kentucky, who was a heavy-duty alcoholic came in one night during the week, I think it was a Thursday night. We had bunk beds at the time, with four to a room. Now I was on the top bunk, and below me was a guy from California named Gring, whose nickname was Gringo. In the other bunk was the guy from Kentucky and someone else who I can't remember at this time. Well, there was a desk next to a window and on it was my stereo amplifier. So this guy walks in, and he was SO DRUNK (ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?), THAT HE TURNS TO GRINGO'S BED, UNZIPS HIS PANTS AND STARTS PISSING ON GRING'S FACE!!! GRING WAS ASLEEP AT THE TIME AND THE FUNNIEST PART IS WHEN HE, IN HIS SLEEP, REACHES FOR THE WINDOW, AS TO CLOSE IT, THINKING THE RAIN IS COMING IN! I NEARLY FELL OFF THE TOP BUNK!! WE ALL BROKE OUT IN UNCONTROLLED LAUGHTER, WHICH WOKE GRING UP (BESIDES THE PISS IN HIS FACE!), SCREAMING!! WELL, THE NEXT DAY, THAT GUY WOUND UP ACROSS THE WAY AT THE ALCOHOLIC'S ANONYMOUS! And this was just one of many stories of drunken debauchery! Like one time, a guy was so drunk, he stopped in front of someone's door and pissed in the doorway! Then he fell backwards, and, holding his can of beer, didn't even spill one drop of it on the floor before passing out! Ah, the good ol' days of drunkenness and getting out of PT when we drank a case of double bock beer! Not only that, but the hash also! After a couple of months there, we were sent to live in Larson Barracks, in a brand new building. Both are no longer there, unfortunately and it makes me a little sad to know that. Oh, and I was in HHB 3/67 company c.

@@dmobile2go I agree! So many alcoholics!! I lived right next door at Harvey Barracks! I got to see a great movie there! It was called IF YOU DON'T STOP, YOU'LL GO BLIND! It was like KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE. All I had to do was clean the theatre afterwards! It was well worth it!! I also met someone from ENGLAND in those barracks! Don't ask me how he got into the US Army! He lived in Liverpool, just one mile from where the BEATLES came from! In fact, I was playing one of my Beatles albums when he was passing by and then he poked his head in. There was even a band from England that played at one of the many, many beer fests they have there. You are very right though, it was some very good times, and I can honestly say that I miss Germany very much, especially around the holidays!!

1st Sgt of B Co stabbed his wife to death... Tankers were constantly rolling M1s in Graf, or elsewhere, and dying. In Aschafenberg (sp?), someone forgot to clear their tank and blew up a mess hall I had just inspected.
For nearly two years, we only got two hours off a day, because we were always undermanned.

I was stationed in Kitzengen in 1976 to 1979 and this is 10 years later? my god I still remember some of the areas. 24g20 ICWAR and ICC, IFF tech E5, B battery 6/52 32nd air artillery Best times of my life lol, still remember the street I lived on 29 ricthofen strassa kitzengen germany. I just got married at 18 and landed in a fog that made frankfort look like frankenstien movie. All clouds then it opens up I swore I was in hanzel and grettle movie. I was told I would never find housing off base, to many americans I guess lol. I walked over that bridge straight up and down past homes for 2 straight weeks. One day a nice old man Mr buhel who spoke no english must have seen me and got my attention. He kept pointing at me saying house you need house? hell yea I needed a place and he took me up to this beautiful apartment he had just redone, still needed heating oil for everything but that is how they roll over there at the time. I was forever grateful to that man who probably lived through ww2 yet reached out to me in uniform and made my 2.5 years there memorable. I hope to return one day but probably would not recognize it the way I left. thanks for the video

I remember that building in Harvey Barracks with the tower! I use to go in there and sleep in the communications area, which was just a small metal box about 4 foot by 4 foot with all the equipment inside! I remember seeing helicopters coming in and there was a tank on the air field.

We were there when they tore down the factory / brewery and dropped the chimney to make way for the new McD. Almost the whole town turned out to see them drop the old chimney.

Hi, I was checking out your comment and thought to let you know I was stationed at B Co, 703d Maintenance Battalion, 3rd ID from 78-81. CPT Barry was the Commander when I left. My duty was the unit Training NCO. :-)

I too was in B co, 703 Maintenance Battalion, 3rd ID from 79 to 81. I worked in the shop for awhile and then moved to be a technical inspector. Yes, Capt. Barry was my Company Commander but SSgt Koehler and SFC Hempker were kind of like my mentors. They sent me back to the states for advanced training at Aberdeen. Those were great days. Married Jan Wolterman when we first got there and we are still happily married! We left for the states in June of 1981 where we ETS'd.

1980 Harvey barracks was a drug infested out of control Cookoos Nest. Was a high chance newbies becoming drunks and drug addicts. Lots of folks getting in trouble and getting jail time. Racial tension was at a boiling point. 2nd rate equipment , m60 a2 broken down heaps of junk. Local German Dishwashers at the mess hall were making more $ then enlisted men. Witnessed bloody fights between GIs and local Germans. Most NCOs were Vietnam vets. Apocalypse Now anyone.

I was in HHC 1-15 INF, at Harvey from Feb 89-Dec 91. I'm 99% sure that's me and Bill Downs walking in front of the camera at about 4 mins. in. I don't remember seeing anyone else there with that acid washed denim jacket beside me. I always thought I'd make it back someday.
