Constellations - A Good Omens Animatic

- I have well and truly fallen (ha ha) for the TV series Good Omens. My good boys Crowley and Aziraphale are very very good and perfect and also very gay, which is of course the recipe for any good content.
I made this in.... about 3 days? Look I have way too much free time on my shoulders right now and this is what happens. If I'm back within the week with another one of these, send help, because I have clearly lost my mind and cannot escape the endless black hole of good omens.
(I am now realising i should have put the Libra constellation at the end haha! ah well)

I'm glad you liked it! I was more just working with how in canon Crowley said he'd had a hand in making some stars. The Raphael theory never made a lot of sense to me, personally.
@@Egnazol It may not be a theory that makes a lot of sense, but it definitely is one that I will cherish in my heart forever : )
I tend to prefer the AziRaphael theory but anything for an awesome visual! :D
I did not mean to give a full backup to the AziRaphael thing but adhd just takes ahold sometimes haha. TL;DR, the series is chock-full of fun references to him specifically, as far as I can tell. What follows is unabashed nerdery, not intended to be condescending and I apologise if it comes across as such.
From just a basic overview, it doesn't make much sense to be Crowley over Aziraphale because *Raphael is a busy boi and most certainly did not fall*. As one of the four or five or seven Archangels and the only one of the Four not to be mentioned, as well as the fact that the Islamic Archangel and patron of *music* known as "Israfel" is Raphael's counterpart and that sounds very similar to "Aze-Rah-Phale", I like that one more.
It helps that Azi is depicted as one of four (guarding one of four directions of the garden of Eden), and, according to Wikipedia (and other sources but cmoooon it's okaaaay):
-He is the "patron of travelers, the blind, happy meetings [...] matchmakers". All of which holds up, since he's a longtime-traveller associated with a dude in dark glasses with whom he keeps having the darnedest of meetings, and he does appear to enjoy the odd bit of matchmaking as blind as he is to his own. He's also associated with doctors, which makes thematic sense with Anathema and "oh lord, heal this bike". Also: he's in love with David Tennant. Fight Me.
-He is "a particular enemy of the devil". Him being a particular enemy of a devil makes sense, given that he's the only one in the books to have any personal connection to one.
-In the deuterocanonical (by Catholic tradition) Book of Tobit, he introduces himself as "Azarias the son of the great Ananias". Azarias Raphael? Azaraphael? Aziraphale?
-Also in that book (according to Wiki), "he was sent by the Lord to heal him of his blindness and to deliver Sarah, his future daughter-in-law, from the demon Asmodeus". The other details don't work with Crowley but Ahem Hem I Understood The Reference, Gaiman. Demon of Lust indeed.
-Supposedly he appears in John's Gospel, which puts him in the right location for the show.
-In the Talmud, Raphael is given more jobs than anyone else, and they both involve saving people. Sounds like our favourite overworked miracle man.
-In Paradise Lost (always worth a reference even if it's about as canonical as Dante's diary), he warns Adam to make jolly sure he doesn't fall to temptation. I don't know of any sleight of hand involving flaming swords during this exchange, but I wouldn't be surprised.
-Israfel "was referenced in the title of Aleister Crowley's Liber Israfel". I mean. Come on. I think this is all we need. I'd be willing to bet this is where the inspiration for both names came from, whether or not the connections to Raphael were intended. Ofc, this could also refer to Crowley being Raphael, but that would require a bit of backtracking while the Aziraphale thing connects in both directions.
-I guess Raphael would probably know an Angel high-standing enough to be given the sword. As it stands, Crowley and Aziraphale didn't seem to recognise each other; Crowley certainly would not have worried about the taboo given that he just invented it.
There is the fifth archangel, Joel. I don't think he's supposed to have been important before his fall, but I guess Crowley looks a bit like a Joel, if Joel decided to start going by Anthony. Saint Anthony, btw, is the patron saint of lost things; we always think of grandpa Tony when we need to find our keys, even though we're predominantly Protestant.

The Oh Hellos have soo many songs that fit so well with the shows theme and these two in general I’m surprised it’s not used more for G.O. animatics!!

god i adore this song and i adore how u told aziraphale and crowleys story with it. u had some interesting transitions that left me even more intrigued and impressed and their expression were able to convey some very soft moments. very glad i clicked on this video this was a delight

Thank you! A lot of the Oh Hellos music suits them - I was also considering using the song Passerine, with more of a focus on Aziraphale. Who knows, maybe I'll work on that again later?

Honestly, I love the oh hellos and seconds into this video I pressed like. I mean, you're amazing at art and you took one of my favourite songs and one of my favourite shows and turned it into this amazing videos that litterally hypnotized me to press replay about 15 times already.

i watched an episode of this show and i just wanted to watch more. the episode was when they were driving and hit the girl with the car and crowley was forced to help her by aziraphale. she then left her book in the car and it was the only book aziraphale had been looking for his whole life
So old lol but seeing my favorite bad mixed with my favorite fandom brings me so much joy and I need to tell you how much I appreciate this. It’s so beautiful and all of the animation is so smooth. ❤️

This is beautiful! Great animation, transitions, and timing! You give the characters a lot of personality! Also, I love how you recontextualize the song! Like, I feel like I understand the original intent really well, but there's so much overlap in theme and inspiration that it really does work for the relationship!
