Rocky--incredible! His beautifully fluid coloratura and full, ringing tone puts Florez to shame. Those two high Ds are dazzling. He has everything! (the chorus, on the other hand....) Bravo, Blake!!! How we would love ot hear a voice like this today.
I saw this at the NYC Opera. It was great. Those days no one made a big deal of these performances. There were so many good productions and wonderful singers there. Alas, today it all hyped up schyt.
WOW!!!! I'd say they're close to the best Top Cs I've heard in this aria, and wow 7:15 and the top D at 7:51!!!! Yes, ghastly english and thankfully opera has left the 80s well behind :) Young Rocky: simply wonderful!!!!
I'll disagree with you there, the English is really good in my opinion. Contrast it with the English National Opera's Rigoletto, for example, where the English was terrible (and that's being polite).
No importa, era simple curiosidad. Gracias.
This is really great, just one little thing: They cut some parts out of the choir parts in the aria. Otherwise, it's awesome singing by a real master of classical singing.
unusual language, but still showing all his singing beauty, even in english, and it's much harder there. In the recitatives, some laughter was heard, seemed like a comedy first, but then it finished totally professional.
So strange to hear it in english, almost distracting. Nice production and excellent performances though. It's always good to hear Rockwell and Titus. Thank you for posting.
To answer the most prominent question, why is this in English? Simple. To attract a diminishing American audience that wants to understand the story. As a tenor myself forced to sing in horribly translated operas, I must admit this translation is quite good- the whole aura has a feeling of Sigmund Romberg. I actually prefer the young Rocky here over the later one (and more robust vocally) which is performed in Italian. Cheers.
why the heck did they did this in English? Rockwell is awesome; it was incredible, but it would have been one the best interpretations of this aria if it had been done in Italian (plus, it would have been twice as beautiful).
can you upload or tell where to find this whole show? I'm in search of all the operas in english version so I don't have to read for 2 hours lol THANK YOU!

The phrasing and coloratura here is AMAZING, lets not forget his diction...he was really on it
Not only is his voice in perfect form, but his diction is amazing!
BRAVO!
You just can’t listen to others performances after this one, this is sensational, the best ever !
The look on the chorus members' faces when Rocky takes that high D from nothing is simply priceless!
Yes, we appreciate the great moments. I sang in that chorus for 30 years.
@@Perrosiutico WOW!! So you actually saw Rocky live?? How was it?
It almost looked like the chorus didn’t expect that D to come flying out, but the orchestra caught him coming down perfectly! 👌

Yep. None of the Rossini singers today even come close.
Blake. As always, extraordinary. A vocal phenomenon.

Young Rocky is simply the super tenor.
Era veramente straordinario. Tecnica, gusto, mezzi vocali, presenza in scena...aveva tutto. Il tenore rossiniano per eccellenza. Grandissimo Blake
Just unreal! One of a kind!!
He's a madman! You just HAVE to love him!
Just prince of Rossini's operas...Bravo!!!
Una disinvoltura vocale impressionante!!! Senza pari
Rockwell Blake was the Best Don Ramiro........JDF cant put his shoes in this roll.....
THE greatest, period!!!!
Es fabuloso como canta. Esos agudos y ese fiatto interminable. Este hombre es una leyenda.
A Diamond of bel canto!
Wish they did more opera in English in the states, this is great

His voice is a marvel. Rocky is a marvel, Antonio! =)
7:15 - That open blast of vocal prowess!
Wow!!! Blake is the GOAT!
You have to hear his Puritani and his Sonnambula! Pure magic! On you tube there is a duet with Lloris from Sonnambula.
No importa, era simple curiosidad. Gracias.

Opera is an acquired taste and can take many years to understand and appreciate.

Rocky is incredible!
Very ernest Cs. Good english too.
I would love him do this aria in Italian to fully appreciate the vowels.
Thanks for sharing!
Bravo

Ineguagliabile ed ineguagliato.
Yes please!! Rigoletto!!

I think the translation here is really good. It's actually quite lyrical imho.

Fabuloso!!!

Please help me!!
Thank you very much!
Paolo
Beautiful singing... but UGH, I hate the english translation.
Oh no, singing in English. Should be illegal
OMG, so kitsch...
Not kitsch at all : everything is ironic in this production
In inglese ahahahahah e che allestimento orrido....... ridicolo
there's no better way to ruin an immortal masterpiece than to hear it translated
No importa, era simple curiosidad. Gracias.
