When I was a teen back in the late 60's and early 70's living in the great state of Utah USA, we didn't have any Air Guns of Utah stores (they would probably have kicked us kids out anyways) nor did we have any high power PCP air rifles or fancy optics. We would either borrow our dad's car or ride our bikes a few miles to where the prairie dogs, pot guts or jack rabbits could be found. We walked, we brushed, we spotted (with own eyes) and tried teaching our dogs to retrive (LOL). I think I had a Crosman Model 99 22 cal Air Rifle that I used and I remember as a "kid" how dear the ammo was. We managed to inflict our share of carnage and felt like we were great hunters. Cameras were Kodak Instamatics and film was 8mm. My best friend Kelly's folks owned a Super 8 video camera but there was no way that we kids could afford to buy the film or pay for the processing. Hense, no record to post years later on YT or Instagram. I am amazed at how much equipment, how much money and how many support people are needed these days to go plinking. My mom would never let us bring any of our quarry home and she would wash both me and my clothes in a hot lye soap (homemade) bath upon my return.
Well nothing has changed if you look at the video closely these are grown men hunting prairie dogs with expensive state of the art equipment. Not kids or teenagers. So most likely the kids and teens are still doing it with a daisy . Cause I haven't seen any vids of kids hunting or using fancy equipment. I believe you have to be over 18 to purchase that stuff anyway. Good day to you and yours
What about the same thing comparitive with a .22 PRS setup Matt? The airguns are awesome but a lot of cost and setup there and also require air compressers etc. They are like the EVs of the shooting world. Out to 350 yards plus a .22 can do all that too, without the downsides you mentioned for the centrefire and you definitely see all your hits. Using a semi provides very quick follow-ups too.
It’s like making an ev into a 10sec car, if you are into guns and ballistics and have a few grand to play with… why not? Most air gunners have already competed and won with pb, reloading, possibly casting bullets, it’s just another fix for the addiction and some states are already making it hard to exercise your 2nd amendment rights so air guns fit in nicely, especially if sound, ricochet, and pissed Karen’s are an issue.
Hi Matt, i am from Namibia. Your video’s are the best with the air guns. Please advise where in Namibia we can get your element optics scopes and also the air guns?
Hey Matt, do you still consider the Impact the holy grail of airgun technology or do you want to update that statement now as the Panthera or the King is coming out? Also please do a video on the new Air Venturi AvengeX air gun
Hi Matt, when you are searching the absolute max range, in long range hunting are you using the standard 700 mm barrel on the Impact M3 or ar you using the experimental 800 mm barrel that you showed a couple of months ago on your channel ? Great video by the way ! and some incredible shots.
Very nice video. One question. How much power do you use for the scope ? By checking most of the videos of the scopecams, seems you are not using the full power of the scope.
For the .22 caliber you don't. According to the FCA, Act 60 of 2000, an airgun of caliber below 5.6mm is excluded from the act. (So if you wish to go up to .25 cal, you'll have to get a competency cert before applying for a licence)
@JohanMynhardt thanks i read it somewhere but didn't make sense to me as they said something about an airgun with more than 6ft/lb of energy needed a license and thats less than what most break barrels produce
Ja-nee, nie té duidelik nie... If it was an issue at .22, the local shops wouldn't sell them without a licence, I'm sure. Likely also the reason that, for example, local shops only sell .177 and .22 and explicitly don't sell .25. After some research and budgeting I got an Air Venturi Avenge-X and can't be happier. Nothing like these guy's high-end kits, but still super impressive (and fun!).
looks like you're having a blast. but beeing a hunter by profession myself i absolutely hate the complete absence of respect for those animals. they are feeling creatures, no steel targets..
All I said was, go out, have fun but don't forget what exactly you are doing. Every living creature deserves respect. Even you,@@prophy4736, with your propaganda account.
How else could one progress without becoming part of the market and creating relationships? One way that you can do this is through sponsorships and brand deals. Matt is not just a youtuber hunter, he is a business partner in the world of Air rifle slugs, therefore relationships within the industry are imperative. Plus, it's awesome seeing the crazy technology, cool to see where it's coming. The brand relations and deals are imperative for better videos and more content.
@@dom_kon1500 you are kidding… aren’t you? It’s very disturbing seeing people who are not aware of what is going on around them. I bought Panther recently because I like its looks but at the same time I wondered if it will be accurate as liners are a lottery. The only thing that convinced me to my purchase was FXs support. But I refuse to trust any RUclipsr who „stands after his product”. The content of this channel is product placement and nothing else since fx invested in it. There are no more goofy but true videos here.
Complete nonsense, not possible to hit anything with a pcp air rifle beyond 150 yards. These are not hunters, but rather advertisers of the paid products they show on their channels. Even a rimfire is of no use beyond 200 yards. Same as some quacks who claim to hit clays at 100 yards with shotguns.
It would be nice to know what setups were used for the 250 yards +. rifles, barrel length, slug manufacture, slug weight, etc..
Always nice to hear a honest hunter tell about his mistakes and miss shots.
Thanks for your time and effort 👌🏻

Great shots! Really visible damage on the farmlands on these aerial shots too. Good hunting
The improvements in cameras and recording are fascinating.
I’m glad y’all are helping these farmers out!

I do love to see the airgun stuff. But is the rimfire a non topic/never use thing for you?

Will FX ever go hammerless?
Do you resale the used air gun?
Hi Matt, love your videos, just wondering do you need a license for a PCP in South Africa?
For the .22 caliber you don't. According to the FCA, Act 60 of 2000, an airgun of caliber below 5.6mm is excluded from the act. (So if you wish to go up to .25 cal, you'll have to get a competency cert before applying for a licence)

Hi Matt. If I my ask, what caliber are you guys using?
Probably .22 caliber slugs, most time and effort is spent on .22 because of limitations in other countries. So .25 and higher calibers get neglected.
@@frankies-1389 Oh ok thank you and it makes sense
Utah airguns stopped by my shop and I couldn't help them they needed a tire and we don't do tires I felt soooooooo bad 😢
Honestly I like The Ox Wagon Diary episodes the best
