I wonder about how the game could have changed “competitively” if the rush cancels were kept, it seems like such a fun tool to experiment with even if some monsters would have benefited more from it than others
Could you imagine if Unleased became the Smash Melee of Godzilla games. Probably wouldn't be as popular as STE still due to the controls, but it would stand out more than it already does.
The Rodan roll spam legitimately would've been broken in combination with a glitch I found when doing his AB+Up attack. If you keep holding Z before and after he uses that attack, Rodan will hover and his "walking speed" matches the regular flying speed (Z when in the air). While you can't use your beam because you're defending and "walking", it's exchanged for your attacks having greater range and you're able to cancel your attacks easier. Additionally, you're able to make quick escapes by simply AB left or right.
I should mention, the AB attack needs to either hit your target or you cancel it by AB right or left while holding Z. It would be the safer route to use the cancel method
I wish they, kept the rush cancels could have made so many fun & deadly combos for some that kinda are lackluster in the melee reach (obsidius, baragon, titano & mothra larva are some examples) but atlas here we are really hope they eventually can pick up their trilogy again & make a 4th installment lol
Megalon's beam being fixed here relative to the broken aiming in the final game makes me wonder if the same is true of the Absolute Zero Cannon, which also can't hit anything in the final game unless you jump first and then use it
@@VGF2615 I see. On the one hand, I kind of like that you have to do some trickery to make it hit since it seems appropriate to how it was used in the movie, but it was undeniably awkward.
Incase you're interested with this game, there's a revival project called save the earth meele with additional improvements, new characters e.g., Zilla and skin e.g., Gigan Rex. It's actively in development with a lot of effort putting into it, and there's a demo of earlier version. A later demo with new content is yet to have a release date, but you can keep track of new content being developed in the discord.
Awesome video comparison. It's neat to see what got fixed and apparently broken before the release build. Hope more prototype builds come out for Unleashed.
Megalon’s beam and Mechagodzilla’s use of power surges (or lack thereof) have got to be some of the most confusing changes. I always assumed these elements were oversights from the developers and that may still be true with Megalon, but Mechagodzilla having no access to power surges was a seemingly intentional design choice?
Yeah, it's definitely strange. It wasn't very hard to fix those issues in the final build either as I only needed to change a few bytes in the game's files using a hex editor.
We need a fangame made of this where some of the Prototype stuff, namely rush cancels and Megalon's beam and Kiryu's AZC actually working, are kept with main game mechanics like Anguirus' shell protection and Biollante's beam being its final build distance.
Did you notice if the military voicelines had different accents based on the current city? For example, an Australian accent for Sydney because I noticed that in the in-game(I think, it has been years since I played GU) bonus video with developer commentary that the military had accents instead of the same voicelines for every city.
The military voice lines between the builds are the same. The one heard in the Seattle commentary video was likely an older voice line used in an earlier build of the game before it was replaced.
Most of these changes are really good though there are some I would have left as they were (maybe there could be a options section with some video clips that will allow you to change how specific moves work for those who like specific changes to specific characters and those who don't)
I promise you when I say this, One of the profiles I made in Godzilla unleashed, MechaGodzilla was able to use his power surges. I didn’t know he wasn’t able too and I was confused why this person I was watching play as him never used his power surges and I realized it’s a thing. But sadly my Wii U got corrupted and now every time I create a new profile I hope I get one where MechaGodzilla can use the power surges 🤕

I wish that Godzilla 2000's theme played for all the Godzillas in the final game.

Nope. It still aims at a downward angle like in the final build, though I did fix it for GUOR.

Didn’t know there were this many changes that’s pretty cool, haven’t touched this game in a good while

Also forgot to note this but it seems to be that pick up & throws seems to do more damage in the proto than the final I found that kinda weird as well
This game could've had a dedicated competitive playerbase form back in the day if they didnt remove rush canceling... what a shame.
Fun fact: in the PS2 version, Godzilla 90s has Godzilla 2000's theme

Therapist: Rodan Spindash isn't real. It can't hurt you.

man, i have alot of memories playing this game as a kid on ps3
Proto Rodan giving his enemies backshots wasnt something on my bingo card
You're telling me this game could've had Schmovement?!?!?!
Could you add those rush cancels to overhaul?
Not sure if it can be done, but I'll look into it in the future
Great vid 👍
