I hate to ruin a good mnemonic but it’s not true that magnetic variance is due to the fact that a paper chart cannot accurately represent the curvature of the Earth. Magnetic variance occurs because the magnetic pole is not located at the geographic pole. See wikipedia for a thorough explanation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_declination
