Sh*tbox Foxbody! Trying to get this 347 Stroker Balanced Properly! 28oz vs 50oz Harmonic Balancer.

- 1988 Mustang GT with a Mystery 347 Stroker motor I got for $1000. It's never run 100% but it's getting much closer as I decided to swap the unknown balancer on this Sh*tbox-Fox to 28oz to see if the car would run any better!?

I had a short block rebuilt and had notches machined for bigger cam clearance but the block was not blueprinted and balanced , the machinist said it was not necessary ....well , he was wrong and a few of my guys tried to figure out the vibration issue right around 2200 rpm and then it cleared . I sold the motor with 1500 miles , GT40X heads , x-303 cam , and had buyer warned of the issue so he took it apart and we thought it was the flywheel , clutch or balancer but that was not the issue .....all in all after complete disassembly the question about blueprinting and balancing came about and he sent out the rotating assembly to get balanced and one that was done , POW !! motor was running wicked ...vibration gone , lesson learned , hope this story helps someone having similar circumstances .
I love this car. I doubt I will ever get tired of her. Thanks again for saving her.

The dead Optima 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I have spent the time and money on those things. What a headache! I fixed the problem tho. I went to XS power batteries. I've been running with XS power for about 4 or more years now and all my battery power issues have disappeared. That dreadful dead battery feeling😖 is a thing of the past 😇😇😇
Make sure your battery has robust grounds to multiple point if the battery is relocated. I error on over-grounding to make sure I don’t get those “heat soak” slow cranking conditions. It’s often a weak ground
Just a FYI that car has a serious charging problem. I might’ve missed something in the video and maybe you’re already aware of it but half of the running problem is the charging issue as I’m sure you’re aware these cars require a good battery to run properly yes, they’ll fire and run but not great with a poor charging system and weak battery. Cheers.
I've started using the Interstate MTX batteries with good luck since most of my vehicles sit more than they drive. They are sealed AGM batteries just like Optima. I have an 11 year old optima that works great and two newer optimas that won't hold charges.
Get rid of the underdrive crank pulley so the alternator can run properly at idle, nice find on the balancer counter weight....
Needs a stronger alternator from an sn95 or Taurus etc.
Ran underdrives and swapped them back to my factory pulleys. No real advantage to run them, such a tiny bump in HP that it is not worth the headache running them.

It's not just the battery, your starter and/or the alternator could be causing the problem. I know its not cheap, but because you may have been running an incorrect balancer and the timing was off, you may want to replace the starter, alternator and the battery. They were all under a big strain because of the incorrect parts used on the car.

Great to see the shit box back on the channel. I am dealing with some vibration issues on my 1980 RS capri I 302 swapped. I believe I have a 83 carb 302 with a T5. Is that a 28 oz balancer stock?
