- The 'Trailer Trash Malibu' getting into the 8's in the 1/4 mile after crashing the car the weekend before and thrashing all week. For those that know the Crust Nova, this is his son. Congrats to the 417 Motorsports Crew!
Best part about that car, it wasn’t a puff of smoke that came out of that exhaust. That tune is on point, great work guys!!

That turbo was massive! Those air to water coolers are no joke. If he had dry ice and rubbing alcohol it probably would of went mid 8's and probably 6 more M.P.H. But that's fast enough 8.90's @ 150 is no joke👍👍👍👍
that was a beautiful launch on the 8.90 pass, brought it up high and set it down soft.

In the old days..we would weld chains on the frame and the shock tower..this would help keep the travel of the car down...you lose Alot of momentum going up then trying to steer the car...if you go into the other lane you lose the race and your time doesn't count either...**ONE#1**

Everyone's seen hot rod big bang theory, what id suggest you look at is any of sloppy mechanic's videos, specifically the one about the aftermath of blowing his motor on the strip thanks to a wastegate failure. he clearly shows that the rod absolutely shattered thanks to 30 psi of boost, but the rod bolts (which he had re used in three different motors) held up perfectly fine after dozens of 7000 rpm runs
If you read the article it says they did close to 60 pulls on the dyno at or over 1000.
piston skirts, rod bolts, wrist pins, and rods are issues that high up.. crankshaft however is a true survivor.
Rizo check out sloppy mechanics colorado getting close to 1000 rwhp in a stock 6 liter. That motors been beat on and beat on.

Saw an early eighties Malibu wagon at the strip one time. It was beating up Mustang foxbody's all day lol. He spent most of his money on the engine.
This is how we use to stage before bump boxes were a thing. When you see the car squat before the hit that is him going from high to low gear.

its almost like the more it wheelied the better the time, those launches were gracefull not too much wheelie but just right and back on the ground before the wind becomes your enemy.

i have the same car, getting a 6.0 LS soon with 4L80e trans (running donor vehicle).
i figure im way past halfway there in cost, just need a turbo and a strong rear end.

5.3 LS Motors are good Motors
For a thrown together car it's pretty quick. Just shows you don't need a expensive best of the best car to pull quick times. Great job guys!!
don't let what they claim fool you, this car is well put together. I don't see it being thrown together. just my opinion

Ya the only thing budget is the motor setup . It’s honestly still a simple / light front end setup that knows how to hook and book . This setup would do amazing in the street

Does the block have any work done to it to make it stronger? Like head studs and etc? And how much boost is that block taking? And I'm assuming the car is heavy..?
Those cars are surprisingly light for what they are. This was built post-OPEC, so it was light. Also, the lack of crumple zones, etc, means it's much lighter than a modern car of similar size.
Internet has it at 3400#, stock. For reference, a modern Mini Cooper S weighsin at 3,000.
Curious..What year is the Block and what casting heads?..Very Impressive by the way.
I believe that iron 5.3 heads are 862, but theyre nothing special about the combo. Use whatever stock heads you happen to get on your motor, in the LS family theyre all pretty good, maybe even give them a home porting job but dont sweat it. The real power here comes from 5.3L of displacement under a good 18+psi of boost. If you take an iron truck engine out of say a wrecked silverado for $450 complete, then clean the sludge out of it and gap the top two rings to 30 thousandths the motor will handle 4 digit hp all day. Occasionally you'll have a Gen 3 who's rods will bend past 600, but that's only some of the motors. Worst case you're pushing 1000 wheel and blow the motor, then you just pop another $450 replacement in :D

KittyCow the $450 for a ls engine from a wreck yard is a theory. Down here in South tx there is no such thing. All ls engines from any wreck yard are $1200-2000 no mater if it had 200k miles.
Them wreck yards got greedy.
97sswcubes 78 ditto up here in the North. Even at a yard owned by my former neighbor I guarantee I can't get a 6.0 cheaper than 1500.

No there a lot sketchier. George Ray's off the top of my head. Check out Ozark Raceway Parks Facebook page. Yesterday they excavated the first 300' of both lanes for fresh concrete, last week they completely reworked the runoff area of the track. I've hooked harder at this track than I have at any of the big Midwest NHRA tracks

This is why the ls is the best engine ever made. And I'm glad he didn't put it in a shit box mustang. G bodies are a much better choice.

that 5.3 is probably better for racing than a 5.7 or 6.0? that thing makes power everywhere and turns higher rpm easier than a longer stroke can could?
5.3 and 6.0 both love boost
And 4.8 love boost to
5.3, 5.7, and 6.0 all have the same stroke length! The only exception is the 4.8 and you'd be correct in that the smaller stroke length allows for more RPM than the others. However i would still prefer the non 4.8's because the 4.8 block has a very small bore and restrictive heads. I have seen people put the 4.8 crank into an LS3 block with aftermarket rods and make 8000 rpm monsters though that's far from a budget build
4.8 and 5.3 are the same block and same bore. the 4.8 is the shortest stroke of the ls engines. and also has the longest rods!

Thenitroviper that’s a lot of used Parts accumulated over several years but it could be duplicated pretty easily for around $15,000 complete. Low budget is relative to an 8 second 1000hp car that completed Drag Week twice and stays together.
Is is safe to assume that the radiator arrangement is intended to provide some passive lift? You guys clearly know about getting traction, so I would suspect you were counting on some lift/weight transfer at the top end which would allow more boost at the higher speeds. If this was all part of the plan, very cool idea!

The radiator placement is to move the turbo to the center of the grill.

This is a dumb comparison, one is a purpose build drag car that cost money rather than make it and the other is build to perform in general, be easy to drive, be comfortable for daily use, and above all make Nissan money. Its been a well know fact that you can buy and build a car that is fast down a drag strip for super cheap if you know what your doing and where to get the parts you need cheaply, even if you pay someone to do the install/fab work.

Nope. They come with mild steel internals like most v8's. This one just had the bottom end rebuilt.

Well you can run like 10-15lbs of boost on the stock ones. Forged internals aren't always necessary. no problem my man.
Not all rods are forged. Not a lot of engines came with cast rods, but they do exist.
A handful of other engines too. I think some foreign engines like volvos and mercedes had some engines with cast rods.
