Thank you so much for this tutorial this is my first sewing machine and the manual was very intimidating and I didn't know anything. I don't really have anyone who can teach me this in my life so just thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I have a Singer Fashion Mate 252 as well. I was in the middle of sewing curtains and had trouble with my bobbin, then had to re-thread the machine. I’m new to sewing so this will be my go-to video for troubleshooting until I have it memorized. You are a blessing!
Didn't have my late wife show me how to use her sewing machine while she was still alive. This is the next best thing. She bought her machine before our youngest ( now 42) was born.
I was just given this machine. It's been sitting around and my two r in the shop. It sews like a charm, but I think I best oil it.so anxious to sew with it!!
Thank you SO much for making these videos - these are the only videos I've found that fully explain how to use all of the thread guides. You're wonderful!
Thank you so much for this video! My mom just gave me her Singer Fashion Mate 360 which she used in high school in the 80s. I was so worried i wouldn’t be able to find any tutorials for such an old machine!
At 2:30, are you sure you are supposed to be sliding the thread behind that silver plate? I have a 1970’s Fashion Mate 360, and the threading set up is exactly the same, but the manual shows thread shows the thread going right from the take up lever, down to the eye. I just went upstairs to my machine to see if I had been missing this step, and when I slipped the thread behind that plate, it was so tight, it was shredding the thread! The manual shows it laying over that thin metal plate.
You are correct. This is a common mistake made. That is not a thread guide, it's a thread stand-off that is made to keep the thread from cutting a groove in the plastic cover. Once that groove is cut in, the machine will start breaking thread (unless the user starts threading on the outside of the stand-off).
I noticed this as well. I'm looking at the illustration (pg 12) in the original 252 manual and it's easy to mistaken the vertical slit in that illustration as the thread. Yes.. the thread goes in front of that plate.

Please, how do I put the thread on the bobbin of my singer 257 machine, I can't help?
Please please can you make a tiny video just showing exactly where you put the tread though the tension knob thingy, both times you show it I'm still not able to see where it's going and that's going to affect whether it works or not, and nine if the others videos show it slow enough either , this seems like one of the most important parts and it doesn't get enough attention, I'm sitting here so frustrated. Please help, you're the it one that has a fashion mate 252 like me
