Great video! I got a bit misty eyed at the end when you talked about Nishiki and showed the Zero and Kiwami clips. His descent into an antagonist was absolutely tragic and they did a great job fleshing out the 'why' with the extra cutscenes in Kiwami. Keep up the good work!
Ah, a fellow Nishikiyama enjoyer I see. Yeah it really struck me just how bad of a dad Kazama was in retrospect and how unjustly Nishiki had it with all the backstory in 0 and K1. Honestly he's the most developed "villain" in the franchise, maybe going toe to toe with Daigo from 4, even tho he wasn't a villain just a final boss, but still like miles ahead of 5 and 6's bad guys.
first yakuza game for me...wow i missed getting involved in some game as much as this also i have the rest of the yakuza games to play,im so happy i finally found another frenchise im addicted to after 2 years of really not getting into anything after the souls trilogy and arkam games
Great video, with excellent analysation. Yakuza Kiwami has always been my favourite Yakuza game, mainly because it was the first one I played. This video has made me appreciate Nishiki and changed my views of him. Thank you for the content!

I finally got around to finishing the video. Great stuff! I like the use of editing with the music to transition into the next scene, and the use of cutscenes was good as well. I remember them from the last video, but I don't remember them being used as good as they are here. (That is to say it didn't stick out as much. You did good here!) It's funny seeing exactly how much changed. Elements that were in the OG I didn't really notice as framing because they were kind of minor. Either way stellar video. I like the part you covered about Nishiki's relationship with Kiryu. It's personal, but also good insight into Nishiki. Hope to see more pal.

Maaaaan, what the hell can I even say? Absolutely adored every second of this video. Remember my comments on your Yakuza 0 video? About your editing being a bit off on the timing, the audio mixing not being super balanced? Well, you blew it out of the park with this one. You pretty much had it down in that vid as well, the moments you wanted emphasized hit hard like they were supposed to, but this was just a whole other experience and it was well worth the wait, I loved the edit you gave Nishiki at the end there, that could totally stand alone as a video in itself! The difference is plain as day, so I gotta give credit where it's due, this was a blast to watch through, dude. Now I don't know if you remember all of what we talked about in the 0 vid, but I did say I have some spicy takes about Kiwami, all of which I'm about to fire off now cause what better place and time to do it at? I've got plenty of spicy takes about Kiwami, but Nishiki being the best villain the series had ISN'T one of them. Wholeheartedly agree with you on that front, but it does still tie in to my biggest gripe with Kiwami's story: I felt most characters needed way more screentime than they got. I will never for the life of me understand why Yumi wasn't introduced in 0, at least so we could spend more time with her? All this time, you're carrying around Yumi's locket with Haruka - and when it's opened at the end of the game? It's fucking Kiryu in there? I had to pause the game to stop laughing, it was that bad. Lack of screentime killed a lot of potential I had built up for more characters as well. Shinji, Kazama, Shimano - all of them were offed too soon. When we saw Shinji die along with Reina? Well yeah, I felt shitty and wanted to cry because Reina didn't deserve it but I spent a whole 15 minutes with Shinji and the only thing from Kiwami I can remember about him is lending Kiryu cash at the start in a funny bit and that's kinda it, ya get me? Shimano suffers from that as well, he's built up as this badass Yakuza who plans his approach and then he just gets offed at a pier? Kazama is the biggest offender in this, I was expecting so much more from the character everyone name dropped in 0 and he gets a total of 10 minutes in screentime. I can appreciate RGG giving Nishiki extra scenes and screen time, which his character severely needed, but I was still left wanting much much more. More interactions with Kiryu and Haruka would've really helped. Oh well, what's done is done. While I do rank Nishiki as the best villain in the series as well, I can't overlook the absolute disservice so many other cast members got. Kiwami reaaaaally suffers from being a remake I tell ya, I swear most of the remade cutscenes are just animated over the original Yakuza 1 scenes, they have such a cheap look to them, characters look stiff, etc. That shit really left a bad taste in my mouth. And when talking about pacing, there were many times in Kiwami's story I straight up went 'what the fuck does this have to do with the story?' The favor for Florist's kid, Date's little scrap with his daughter - I GET it's thematic, but it missed the mark on so many levels for me. It's the same reason why Yumi probably never appeared in Yakuza 0 - I know she would've been out of place in that story, thematically speaking, but the lack of screentime killed her character way before Jingu ever did for me. So the overall cheapness of the scenes, the lack of screentime in my eyes and the weird ass pacing rank Kiwami really low on my list, despite Nishiki being one of my favorite characters, I still feel he gets bogged down by the whole game. It was fun though, with Majima's crazy shit at the side, I enjoyed myself, I just can't bring myself to love Kiwami as much as so many others do. So yeah, that's my whole take on it. Love the series to death but I can't stand by a few of these games, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 especially being the worst offenders imo. Yakuza 3 resonated with me well enough, Yakuza 4 had a laughable story but I liked the new characters a lot, so they made up for it. Yakuza 5 is kinda in a grey spot for me, I love so much of what it was TRYING to do, but the execution fell flat on its face. Ah well, I could go on for hours, but I'm definitely curious what you have to say when our view on Kiwami seems so radically different, and I'm especially excited for the Kiwami 2 vid. NEVER apologize for such heartwarming and robust comments. I very much agree with you on the Kiwami gripes, and I think the game suffered a lot because it was developed alongside 6. (at least it isn't on the dragon engine lol) Although I think Kazama gets just enough screentime given what he stands for. The K2 video is gonna come out sometime duyring the summer hopefully, as I wanna take time off for IRL stuff first, but as for my thoughts on the other yakuzas. 3 - The last yakuza witha truly great villain, but overall the weakest 4 - Stupid twists aside, THE HYPEST FUCKING GAME IN THE SERIES OMG DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE FINALE 5 - Even stupider story than 4, but that final boss fight almost made up for it 6 - Aside from a wet fart of a final boos, one of my most fav. stories 7 - Reverse Kiwami with a shitton of content. Probably my 3rd fav. in the series
@@BasedPeter Interesting to see. Yakuza 3 does have a special place in my heart, no matter what anyone says. I love the kids and the much needed rest they provide to our Dragon. Mine is cool but I again wish we got more of him. I agree with the hype ass finale of Yakuza 4, my favorite is Saejima's fight and end QTE. 5's bossfight almost made me feel like I was fighting Shibusawa again so I GOTTA commend it for that. While I can admit Yakuza 0 is the BEST game in the series, 6 is my overall FAVORITE game in the series. I loved small town Onomichi and the Hirose boys but what I loved most about 6 was Kiryu. He was so done with everything, he feels the most fleshed out he's ever been and hell, he even flaunts his strength in a few select scenes - it's like his own hype caught up to him in a way? I just love the attitude he has. It's the closest he's been to his 0 counterpart imo and I just adore that. Yakuza 7 on the other hand is my most disliked story and game. Characters felt kinda meh after their respective arcs in the story (which I find most RPGs suffer from tbh) to make way for new characters to shine and for their 5 minutes of fame. Love Ichiban as a character personally and I think he's definitely a worthy successor of the protag title but the themes of 7 just never hit that much for me and the combat really dragged the game down. Funny thing is, a lot of people reacted really viscerally at first but then grew to love the new combat, while with me it was the opposite. I was so willing to give it a try but it quickly grew old and stale and it devolved into a numbers game, so meh. Kaito Files is actually the most I've enjoyed RGG combat in a minute, there's just something about bashing someone's head in with brute force like Kiryu and Kaito do it. Yagami's cool and all but I had more fun with the 10 or so hours I spent fighting as Kaito than I did in my (so far) 70+ hours in LJ as Yagami.
