Brilliant buses, brilliant drivers, we love Southern Vectis one reason we come over to South Island every year wish our buses were as good on North Island!
Bus drivers on the Isle of Wight are the cream of the crop as far as I am concerned. Drivers on the mainland cannot compete for friendliness and caring for their passengers.
When my brother and I were on a walking holiday on the Island we were hurrying down the military road from the golf club towards Freshwater Bay, jogging because we were both desperate for the loo. A bus driver stopped because he obviously thought we were hurrying to catch his bus. Of course we had no way of telling him that we actually needed the loo. He waited patiently for us for quite a while, only to see us dive into the Public Toilets! I wish we could have thanked him, but we dare not stop until we had made it safely to the Toilets!
I was born on the Island and visit the Island 2 to 3 times each year. Always using public transport. The drivers are skilled to negoiate the roads n still run on time! Theu are super friendly n pleasent they are so patient particularly with the elderly, disabled and visitors n tourists. The best in the UK without a doubt.
I have to say the island's "Rover" tickets are the best ever! I don't get out much, but to have a 2 day ticket last for 48 hours and not just until tomorrow night is brilliant and I haven't seen it anywhere else as mainland companies prefer to end the day at the end of service. As for being complimentary about bus drivers, the last one I was involved with cheated on me after 6 years and cost me thousands so yeah, I'll stick with the bus pass and not the pain in the a$$...! 😂
Loving your videos and as a fellow non driver, I too rate the majority of the bus drivers here. Pre-covid, one of the drivers went above and beyond for me, driving me back even though he'd just finished his shift, and even letting me borrow his phone. He was a really decent guy and I was so grateful. Looking forward to Nel's new series 😊
I've been coming to the Island on holiday for the past 10 years and am always impressed by the quality of Southern Vectis bus drivers. How they manage to negotiate the country roads is amazing. The No. 1 from Newport used to go all the way to the Red Jet terminal in Cowes and had to go through a very narrow passage whilst at the same time turning a corner. What skill they have!
