Caroline Beltran That's exactly his point. It's really strange that customers need to make up for the employers lack of proper pay. The concept of tipping benefits no one but the employer.
I agree it is basically highway robbery a $300 bill and they still can't pay their waiters a full wage seriously. Their either overpaying their chefs or just plan greedy. We don't do Tipping here except for a few odd places might have a tip jar. But with the prices we pay you shouldn't have to pay anymore and the employee should be getting a decent wage. Here waiters get something like 20 + dollars an hour just depends on where you work. If its fast food under $20 kids get $10 + per hour.

tipping in my country isn't a thing either but i think they get paid the very very bare minimum wage so tipping is actually quite necessary for them to get by lol
Tipping should be a discretionary thing not a compulsory thing. Also, how could it be based on the value of the bill? If I ate 1 plate of food, 1 costing 100 and the other 50, why should the tip be more despite the waitor doing the same amount of work?
Is the waiter going and refilling your drinks? Is the waiter taking your order? Is your waiter making sure everything is okay? Is your waiter making sure the kitchen got your order correct? Is the waiter running back and forth grabbing you whatever you need? Is the waiter cleaning up after you after you leave? That's why you should! The tipping issue really does need to be addressed at some point. There are so many issues wrong with it. They can't keep using this "we have to live on these" social shaming excuses. Their salary is their employers responsibility. A tip or gratuity as it used to be known was a little discretionary bonus given by the customer for exceptional service NOT their basic salary. Plus why does it make sense that the tip has to be a percentage of the sale price ? If I ordered a 5 grand bottle of wine it still only has one cork in it. It just makes the whole experience awkward. Honestly speaking - slating a customer for not paying a high enough tip is just disgusting. Go and lobby your employer who's direct responsibility it is to pay your salary.

And stand on the table of; You do a good job because your parting with a piece of your life. √Having a sense of honor in doing a job well done is a tip in it's self. You like going to sleep with yourself at night when YOU know you did a good job. --Not only that, when you do a good job for the sake having integrity and representing you and your ancestors well. You can't escape tips...life will tip you in new job opportunities, skills, relationships, connections etc. --Not to mention what if a patron is having a hard time financially and doesn't have all the extra money to make it rain of random strangers. ...Or what if the patron is mathematically challenged.... Not everyone wants to go to math class just to sit down and have a meal. --When you look at it, even those who don't tip, or don't tip well are still patronizing the store that provides an opportunity for a pay check.....so it doesn't seem appropriate to emotionally extort tips out of people just because they want to purchase something.

Tipping is a way to save the boss money and make the customers pay the bosses employees wages in part. Its a crazy system and the impressive part is that Americans will defend the system to the end

If I paid $340 for a meal I don't think I should have to pay a tip on top. The restaurant has made enough money out of me to pay the waiter a decent wage without me subsidising his earnings.
d h Other developed countries don't require a tip. Tipping is fucking stupid. If companies would actually pay their wmoyees a living wage tips would be irrelevant. I never do because I refuse to support a system that believes employees should be paid seperately for the services they're already paid to provide.
I don't OWE a tip. No one does. Refusing to do so also doesn't make me a bad person. Bad people are the ones who tip for shitty service. Those people are reinforcing the exact stereotypes and injustices that tips are about. Not only do they reward the bad server and encourage them to be bad at their job, but they also actively support the notion that service industries aren't obligated to pay their people enough. No, I'm not stealing money from anyone. The company is the one stealig from me. Try again.
d h You don't have my pity. My money is mine to spend as I choose. Corperations aren't going to trick me into drinking their koolaid as you have. States are starting to increase minimum wages, largely because no one can afford the arbitrary percentages propaganda convinced them too pay. Tips are taxable and some places take a portion as well. Tipping is great short term, like for holidays. But in the long run it helps NO ONE. That dependance on tips becomes a crisis every summer. No, I'm still not doing it. I'd rather see good servers find better jobs that actually pay well.

@@carolinebeltran4721 because I don't live in the US... Service staff get paid just fine in the UK. And anyway, what does your comment have to do with my question? It doesn't answer it in anyway
This is all scripted
If its fast food under $20 kids get $10 + per hour.
there's no such thing as tipping in my country. it's dumb. aren't u being paid for your job?
stupid cupid we don’t actually get paid for our job. In South Carolina servers only paid 2 dollars per hour then we’re taxed from our tips so my pay checks every week are 0. The only money I make is the tips I walk out with at the end of the night
Did you just said that you have to pay your employer to work for them? What a fucked up country! you're basically a slave! Don't you have laws against slavery?
I don't have to pay them i have to pay the government taxes off the tips i make and the hourly pay so my pay checks every two weeks are 0 i only get the tips i earn, thats what its like for most waiters in america
okay, i understand you. it's probably true tipping is needed but it isn't necessary.
tipping in my country isn't a thing either but i think they get paid the very very bare minimum wage so tipping is actually quite necessary for them to get by lol
If you can't afford to tip then stay at home and eat whatever you feel like cooking.
@@jocycoleman4979 is the waiters job to do all of those things? yes. so don't be mad at the customers, be mad at the bosses refusing to pay you guys the bare minimum.
@@jocycoleman4979 That's their job. What about a nurse who tends to your every physical care need, why not tip them?

In addition the amount of tax fraud that goes on...most do not report tips as income.
@@SW-fk6jk correct. Largely because the majority is given in cash which can be hidden.
@francisjtuk ....amen🙌. Lol....a 5G bottle of wine still only has one cork. -Idk if I feel this way because I've worked jobs that people don't tip...
@@SW-fk6jk the government estimates the amount of tips they get and add it in as income.

Tipping is a way to save the boss money and make the customers pay the bosses employees wages in part. Its a crazy system and the impressive part is that Americans will defend the system to the end
Mission Dan People defending it is what drives me crazy. The excuses are just based in ignorance really. And I'm not saying that to offend anyone... They just don't understand that this system is bad for all of us - servers and customers alike.
CeeStyleDj im a brit and what i struggle with is that in my book a tip is considered special, a thank you for great service. From what ive seen in america (lived there for only one year) the tip is expected and a given. I would prefer to see the establishment pay a fair wage and the tips be earnt as an extra. Imagine going to a shop to buy a coat, you pay $45 but then are expected to give an extra 20% to the lady on the till. Its an odd concept
Im american and i find it so stupid. If Trump has enough money to clain he can build a freaking wall, WHY CANT WAITERS GET PAID IN FULL?!?!

Ya don't say.........🙄
Why do I think this "skit" wasn't a skit but what James goes through on a weekly basis
If I paid $340 for a meal I don't think I should have to pay a tip on top. The restaurant has made enough money out of me to pay the waiter a decent wage without me subsidising his earnings.
why should the tip be bugger when the meal is more expensive. you are already paying a shit load and then they expect you to leave a massive tip.
d h Other developed countries don't require a tip.
I HATE people like you, shut the fuck up! And start tipping you cheap piece of shit!!!
Eat at home. Cheapskate if you can't afford to tip. Simple, right?

In fairness in the U.K. we do know about having to leave a ridiculous tip but no one cares here, waiters are paid by the place you ate at, if you give them a couple of extras pounds then good for you and lucky them. It's mental that in the US you can get chased down the street because you didn't give them enough extra money! It's genuinely like a kid saying to an auntie 'this isn't enough birthday money, how dare you only give me 10'!! So ungrateful. And I know it's like well you're ungrateful for not giving them a proper tip, well as I said they're paid by the restaurant? You don't tip a retail assistant who's been helpful do you
I agree, it's very odd. I've worked hard for that money, I'm not going to go around giving it to people because I have to.
Tom White i agree but if you give a waiter a tip in th uk they could take offence to it because you could be saying that they have a poorer life or they must be struggling because there a waiter with isnt always true.
Owen Thomas-Mason no one in the UK thinks like that. Any waiter would be happy to receive a tip.
