- To anyone who loves Tiki, Adventure, Faux Fantasy, Jungle decor, Tropical scenery, or even just wood carving: Oceanic Arts was a legendary institution. For 66 years they supplied the WORLD (including Disney parks and Polynesian Islands) with all things tropical, including Tiki carvings. Their showroom in Whittier became the DISNEYLAND of Tiki, sacred ground for those who came to see ground zero for the design of what we think of as "tiki" today, which came largely from the artist-in-charge, LeRoy Schmaltz. LeRoy's masks and carvings are beyond legendary in the tiki world, but he created the look and feel of Tiki the world over, and much lesser known is his incredible body of art work in all kinds of mediums, Which are also on display this weekend at the FINAL CLOSING of Oceanic Arts. The "Sweep it clean" warehouse sale.
For those who've been paying attention, yes it's been a long drawn out closing, and it seemed like it would last forever. We had the amazing peekaboo events to say goodbye to Bob and LeRoy and Oceanic arts, but after LeRoy's passing, the practical cleaning out of the overstock and inventory and warehouse has been a process... a process all culminating in this one weekend! So both to help spread the word and to document this moment in Tiki History, we're meeting up with LeRoy's son Christopher for an epic tour of Oceanic Arts before its final weekend - and before the building is sold and gone forever!

You, my friend are the Hugh Hauser of 2023. Thank you for bringing back the best history of Southern California and beyond.
A lifetime of artistry! Such a cool collection; so glad that others can now make some of this part of their collection.
I would like to thank everyone, Bob, LeRoy, LeRoy family and Oceanic arts, for share their time with us, over the years! Great video.
I just Saw this vid Justin. A little late to fly down. I’m from Winnipeg 🇨🇦 and I appreciate what you did for the family. Great story of your life at the tiki store. The end . Most respect goes out to you Justin. 🤙🏻thanks for closing this story!
Thanks for sharing the end of an era. Being old man from Iowa I was never able to get out to meet these wonderful craftsmen
I don't know what to say, my heart breaks for the family, because like you said, "its the end of an era". At the same Im thrilled for them to be able to put a closure to all this and know their father would be proud of all the work they have done & the forever tribute they have given him!!!
Ive never been to Whittier before, Im not even sure where it is, or how to get there. If I did I would purchase one of the crosses he made, beautiful & special.
Thanks, Justin, you did a great job on this video, I know you were feeling a bit sentimental. We know how much this man still means to you!!!
❤️
I was salivating the whole video.Thank you Justin for this last look at A piece of history.
I think this is a beautiful tribute- well done Justin and tiki tyler
im glad i watched it all becoz his art achievements pale to being responsible for getting a whole culture to relearn the ancestors culture now that's huge
Awesome looking warehouse. What a fun job those guys seem to have. Great video
This was so cool, to see all that history of someone’s art - Rest In Peace, Leroy the legend. Also wow looks just like is dad 40:00 !
I wish I could be there.I had planned on visiting Oceanic Arts when I was going to visit Disneyland, but I had to cancel that trip because I was to be there the first week of the COVID shutdown. It breaks my heart that life never allowed me to make it.
Appreciate you taking us through this iconic place on the final final sweeping out the warehouse time🗿❤
Love that art exhibit
It would be so cool to own those giant 20th century fox industrial tables and some of his artwork. I hope some of the local things like restaurant menus and signs end up in the local history museum of the town in resided in. Thanks for sharing all the super cool stuff!
I wish the sale well. I don’t have any room for such things, but Tiki is fun stuff.
Fascinating! Loved the video.
Hey Justin, you should be doing more of this style of videos, you're so good at it!
Hey Justin
I don’t message much but my husband and I love your channel. Also I was at your booth today in Orange and I bought the vintage witch mask. 😁
Justin anything you create out of wood you should sign it with your branding iron on the back. You should also create a carved Random land sign.
Great coverage as always Justin. Wish I was able to have visited OA!
Coming up tomorrow. Great video.
Love this Huell Howser tyoe of videos ❤
Really like the Hawaii poster at 6:15. Wish I could be there for the sale but I'm stuck in Illinois. Actually lots of stuff in the vid I would love to own. Good luck out there!
I might have to come by thank you Justin
Oh man wish i could make it to that last sale and get one of his lamp sketches 😢 there was hardly any notice to this sale for someone who lives out of state. I wish i could see the credit roll music video slowed down, so many great things on those tables!
My mom would love to have one of those nice barrels.
Have they considered having someone come in, cataloguing and auctioning off the art pieces and other items? There's just so, so much here.
You guys should go to Tokyo Disneyland!!!
You remind me of Huell Howser, but you don't do cities but collectibles. You find the history of items all over.
Way cool
Are you the new Huell Howser? Might be onto something!
I live in the SF. BayArea & have been to the Tonga Room at the Fairmont Hotel in Sf .I am curious if Leroy has any of his works are in the Tonga room. Great video
Is that Justin or Huell Howser??? Great video!
I wish I lived or there still so I could go😢
WAS THAT AN NCR CASH REGISTER AT 25:46??? I would love to have it if so. I live a short distance from where those were made.
Hey random landers there is a channel by the name Cletus McFarland with a corvette named LeRoy that was bought as a salvage title car that has become a legend in the racing community is there or could there be a chance that LeRoy Schmaltz could have owned it
