Hey, great channel. I'm new to spatial audio and protools. The new integrated Dolby atmos renderer is pretty intuitive but there seems to be a lack of protools renderer specific content on RUclips. I don't know if you ever use protools but some basic tutorials on that topic might be successful since there aren't many and there is a growing interest.
Thanks for watching and for your suggestion! Logic Pro user here. Used Pro Tools in the past before the integrated Renderer--Logic back then was the only way to monitor for both Binaural algos (the Dolby and the Apple Spatial Audio) so I kinda stayed with that platform! Sorry I can't help more. Have you tried Dolby's or Avid's resources?
Hi, thank you for all the wonderful content! I'm using some of these tools too and I have a question. How can you "output" 7.1.4 in your plugins, like the energy panner? In my Logic sessions, I can only select 7.1.2... I'm missing something.
Thanks so much for the kind words. Glad you're enjoying it! Just published a quick Short on this here: ruclips.net/user/shortsKYd1Bpbz-YY?feature=share
@@thelivingroomstudios Thank you! That's what I thought, can't do it inside Logic, need the external renderer. I'm trying to monitor with Logic because of the "apple renderer". For music, it still in that format that 99% of the people will hear the Atmos mixes.
I tried Penteo trial but it doesn't null when folded back to Stereo, so it's definitely not Perfect. Even if inputting 2.0 and outputting 2.0 (essentially straight though) it still doesn't null so I couldn't see any point in buying it, I can upmix manually and not null for free.
Have not had any issues. Maybe you can describe your process and/or share your results in a PM and either myself or someone in the community that has Penteo could try to replicate it see if we get the same thing? Curious, have you tried the same process with other upmixers? Results? Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@thelivingroomstudios When I investigated why the 100% downmix feature wasn't nulling to the input, it seems Penteo screws around with the input signal and then upmixes. I proved this by having the input played through a dual input scope and the waveform from Penteo is quite different from the input. I'd say 100% downmix is really not true in terms of it only downmixes 100% to the adjusted input, not the original source input signal. I did ask Penteo why even stereo > penteo > stereo doesn't null if it's not upmixing/downmixing and didn't get an answer.
@@thelivingroomstudios I think they do some spectral / filtering of the input first. It doesn't sound particularly different once downmixed = 100% and green, I just didn't really understand what the 100% is meant to be 100% of because it wasn't of the input stereo signal in my testing. Does it matter? Probably not.
Penteo does not filter nor alter input signals. If you selected the same input format as the same output format, that is not passthrough, you enabled Penteo’s direct binaural renderer. You are correct that will not null because it isn’t supposed to - see p23 of Penteo’s user manual. That has nothing to do with Penteo’s 100% ITU upmix/downmix capability.

@@thelivingroomstudios no worries. The info is all there, just gotta piece it together.

Where is the plugin that removes all the gimmicky panning so I don't piss off my listeners?
