  • I started this project before last summer and never finished it. I put it away for a while and I am finally ready to get back to it. I have another intarsia that I want to get started but feel like I need to get this one done first. I recently watched a DVD and have read up on some techniques by Judy Gale Roberts. I really want to implement those techniques so I will be using a few of them to finish this Gossamer intarsia.

    Gossamer turned out FANTASTIC!!! You couldn't have picked a better wood for this project than Paduak. What really makes Gossamer look realistic is how perfectly you chose and placed the pieces using the natural grain of the wood......GREAT JOB! I bet the grand kids are going to want him for their own. :D

      Thanks John. I saw Gibbs doing that while editing, soooooo funnny! I put it at the end of the video and wondered how many would see it. So glad you stayed til the end. It was hilarious!!! He doesn't play much so that was very rare!

    Really nice work. As I mentioned before, being a former Schnauzer owner, what a yapper. Ours knew when the mailman and the paper boys were coming and sat patiently waiting so he could go nuts. Followed up by a nap.

      They both got to barking at something there! Its so funny because sometimes they don't even hear a car drive up our driveway!

    Cy the use of the shims really made this look dimensional! Here’s one tip that Judy teaches to prevent this shoe pieces from flying off. Edge-tape those outer pieces first to the inner adjacent pieces then tape everything to the shim. I promise you that this will work :-).

      @CysCorner  4 года назад +1

      I did end up edge taping one piece but I didnt do it to all the outside pieces, thanks for another great tip Jim!!! Intarsia Powers Activate! ;)

    Good for you for finishing Gossamer. I will set aside a project that is giving me fits, as you did. Usually a solution will come to me when I least expect it and it feels really good when it's finally completed. Nice job. He turned out beautifully.

    I like him - he turned out cool! Great wood choices - that’s always a challenge for me. Would love it if you did a video with more detail and closer demo for the sanding shims and also the risers. I’ve tried both without the greatest results so haven’t figured out the trick.

      Hey! I am just learning this shim technique so I will be using it more and hopefully showing how I use them more. Have another in the works where I am using the shims!!!!

    I remember this character back when I was a kid in the 90’s, but never knew it’s name and never occurred to me either. I was curious as to this latest intarsia project. Now I know who this character is, thanks. This turned out really well Cy. As always enjoy your projects, fascinated by your intarsia also. Good to see your staying safe!

    The Gossamar came out great as do all of your projects. I do have a request though. I would like to see you and hubby do a collab together using the CNC. We haven't seen it used since it was set up and he carved the grand kids names.

    • @CysCorner
      @CysCorner  4 года назад

      Thank you :) Well, the CNC was down for a bit, I know it's new, but it was inop! But it is up and running again. We've actually done some signs together but I haven't vidoe'd them, guessin I should!

    I know what you mean about threading the blades. The Delta I use doesn't have the pinned blades so you can thread them through tiny holes but it is very hard clamp the blade at the bottom and the blades frequently work free. I think I would be better off with a small band saw for the projects I do. Gossamer came out great. I'm going to look like a grey Gossamer if I can't get to a barber soon. Do you know what they call it when you cut your own hair?...Coiffure 19.

    Great project as always Cy. Why did you switch to a Hegner? I couldn't agree more about the lighted magnifier. I was about to give up on scroll sawing all together and then bought one. When I first installed it I couldn't get it the right position and went another year without using it. I finally decided to either get it working correctly or get it out of the way. Wow, what a difference! I enjoy scrolling 10x more and get much better results.

      John Conklin I was wondering the same thing about the Hegner I’ve never used an Exc but I have use a lot of other brand including the DeWalt 788 nothing cuts as good as my 30+ year old Hegner PolyMax I always enjoy Cy’s videos

      This light sure does make a difference! I have now used it to cut another intarsia, *coming soon*
      Ya know, I had bad luck with my Excalibur so I was happy to trade it in for a different model. This Hegner is awesome and I believe Jerry Puckett who commented that his 30+ yr old Hegner cuts like non other! Mine cuts wonderfully too!!!!

    I like Gossamer. Some time you need to leave a project before You know how to finish it.
